Cotchin and Riewoldt

Both battled hard and did some … things.

Good Q4 goal from Jack but …

It isn’t enough. Cumbo showed what youth and spark can immediately do.

This

MRJ Lynch Martin (Bolton)
Clarke Ryan Cumberland

Is better than this

MRJ Lynch Martin (Bolton)
Cotchin Ryan Riewoldt

Well I’ll put my hand up. After being critical of some of Cotch’s games and even just about calling him a liability to the team in his forward role, today I have partaken a large slice of humble pie.

Most pleasing was Cotch’s performance last night against the sour pusses. He certainly turned the clock back a bit.
3 Crucial goals, 5 score involvements. Going by the stats, zero tackles and 1 %ers. But that hardly tells the story. Whether it was having the week off to freshen up, or he decided it was time and took each opportunity that came his way.
Good game.

Jack & Cotch would both have been very relieved after the game that we won given the goals they missed yesterday.
There's still glimpses of their champion best & I'm savouring that but they're on the wrong side of the bell curve.
They know that too. Both were talked out of retirement last season.

The end is coming & so are the emotions. Hope we can give them plenty of joy for the remainer of the year.

Yep, I was ready to place the loss at JRs feet… especially after that ridiculous 25m set snap. Chimps miss from 15 didn’t endear… but did some sharp things later

Hopefully we can send them off in a final at the ‘G
Otherwise it could be they finish up at Port Adelaide in Rd 24
Also possible is that their last game together in Melb could be Rd 23 against North

One thing they did was compete to the end. Jack was getting a towelling but god he’s a competitor. Never dropped his head. Pity he missed those shots in the last. Jack loves Dylan Thomas.

End is nigh. Reiwoldt being the champ he is, stood up when needed but for most of the game he was soundly beaten and so slow. Cotch, again an amazing champ, contributed for 2 goal assists but 39% disposal efficiency isn't good enough and is slow.

A Reiwoldt replacement is the biggwst worry. We have no-one but Lynch.

There will be some tough conversations happening this week if there haven't been already.

The Roos game in the fortnight should be a celebration of some glittering careers that are coming to an end regardless of what happens for the rest of the year.

Fingers x'd that's exactly whats happening, and being planned.
It didn't sit right with me when last week Mini said that Jack and Cotch would make the decision whether to play on next year, or not.
I assume that's Mini's way of publicly deflecting the inevitable questions, but it still sends the wrong message.
The club is bigger than the individual, including such decorated warriors like Jack and Cotch.
Their time is up, and they should go out this year with heads held high.
The tougher conversation should be being held this week with Grimes; how to reverse the wrong decision to re-sign him for 2024.
I'm really hoping Grimesy makes the right call here, otherwise he will further embarrass himself.
Three champions bowing out at the G v North would be the week to do it.

Mini's influence is clouded by the Hardwick years and loyalty. We won't select Mini as a coach and he knows it. Great bloke and is going his best, he will someday make a good coach. But the big picture, we need someone who will not be afraid to make changes and issue directions that will suit our club in the next 5 years.

as a team, we seem to win two to three games in a row, then drop one. We still have a chance, but it will be tough. If we don't make the required changes starting from next week, then the above is 150% true.

In a way I’m hoping we are out of the finals race against the Roos so these 2 Tiger legends can be farewelled at the G

why? if we make the finals, our first game will be at the G. if we win, big chance we'll be playing at the G the week after. miss one interstate and the final back at the G:)

Yeah, but the G wont have 80k Tiger fans there on the last Saturday of September. 25-30k at most.

Ok. but if it did happen, I will be happy with that. The Club will surely elect a day to celebrate their achievement, it would include Basher and maybe Edwards.

For me it would be just so we know going to the footy that this is for a couple of legends, plus I think most would make the effort to get there which would create a fitting atmosphere for them both . Percent world obviously would be last Saturday in September, but that ain’t happening

Whilst it would be great to farewell these two doyens of our club on our terms, look at how Buddy's career ended without a farewell.

Richo, Rance also ended without a farewell. If it happens with whatever plans they put in place, great. But if it doesn't, we still got to share some amazing times with them and we'll just have to accept what will be, will be.
