Cotchin and Riewoldt

Yeah absolutely it could be. That's been on the cards since we went the way we did in the trade period though.

Whether or not we are on the right track will be determined by the results. We have traded like a contender so we need at least 2 top four looks in the next 3 seasons to justify it.

I'm still in the worried but hopeful camp, my feeling is we should have addressed some current issues in other ways like @bullus_hit suggested with Mitchell and Grundy and still maintained our picks to continue to build a list.

If it turns out that we aren't in a position to contend and won't be next year either, then we've absolutely wasted a year and the couple more it will take to get back on track.
If we don't contend this year that doesn't rule us out of contending next year and the year after. The Superhunks will only be better next year, and the year after that, and the year after...while Taranto and Hopper are still in their primes, and Tom Mitchell is coaching in the bush.

True, although it depends on why we don't contend. Injuries is one thing but if we just aren't good enough then I don't see us gaining much over the next three years while Riewoldt, Cotchin, Martin, Grimes, Nankervis, Prestia, Lynch etc retire/decline.

People keep saying Taranto and Hopper are long term prospects even if we have to rebuild but Cotchin was 27 in 2017, Prestia was 24, Martin 25, Edwards 25, and Lambert 25. Four years later they were all declining, struggling or gone in one way or another.

Taranto and Hopper are 25 and 26 now, if we don't contend in the next 2 or 3 years we are doing it once they are on the decline at best.

Yep Ryan forced his way into the team with good form. That should be the way it's done. If jack or cotch need a spell let's hope those waiting in the wings are banging the door down

Not sure why we are so quick to want to replace these champions. Both still very much contributing.

Let the kids literally push them out of the team.

This is the reality and how footy clubs work.

The more pertinent question is who is playing and training at a level that will outperform our two legends?

If, by some bizarre club anomoly,

we dont let these immortals

Transition out of the game on their own terms,

Whatever they may be,

I'll cancel my membership.

Both are comfortably top 10 players presently.

I hope they either

1. Retire on the premiership podium this year,

Or

2. Play in 2024

If i wanted to barrack for a *smile* club with no feel for culture, who has no qualms treating club greats with astounding disrespect,

Id barrack for hawthorn.

If you said to me you can

A) beat geelong in this years premiership by 20 goals, but JR and Cotchy are disenfranchised or

B) lose to geelong in the GF with cotchy and Jr's heart pumping black and yellow,

I chose B without hesitation.

Veterans typically take longer to get going in a new season. Give em a couple of months and there's no doubt both will have games that carry us over the line

The Taco or the Tortilla?
Like the girl in the Old El Paso Ad, Why can't we have both?

In a way we are already doing it.
Samson Ryan got a gig.
Haven't seen the game but must have gone ok.

I don't see why Jackmond has to leave for Delilah to get a game.
As mentioned Jacky might get rested in the odd game.
The learnings Ryan will get by having him on the ground will be/are invaluable.

(From a personal hatred of Sleepy Hollow I want him to keep playing to years end to maintain his small lead over Shovekins/Porkins. (+23)
I doubt he (Tom A Hack) will go on beyond this year either and I would hate history showing Jack on 780 say and Hands in the Back 790.
Perish the thought.
Sorry KB, 778, I hope Jack passes you!)

Same to mids equation with The Chimpah.
Same on field learnings.
And again there will be games when speed comes in (maybe even this week with changes mooted).
Hugo, Juddy, Sonz etc.
Occasionally CotchFest to be rested accordingly as Hoochy Coochy Coach sees fit.
And with injuries this will happen anyway!

So, again, why can't we have both?

Good discussion.

Full disclosure, I have no issue with Chimp at the moment but our lack of immediate forward pressure is alarming to me.

Forward turnovers have been good but they’ve come from the pushing mids and backs IIRC

Unfortunately I blame Jack for a fair portion of that as he is a non-contributor once the ball skips away from the contest.

So no, I don’t see him offering enough atm.

Im not kidding

We discard the ultimate Richmond men

With anything less than deference and dignity,

Then whats the point of Richmond?

But it an academic veiwpoint right now,

Cause Jr and Cotchy are comfortably best 22.

I personally reckon theyre best 5

We all love Cotch and Jack absolute legends of the club but the Geelong winning a flag statement nearly had me choking on my date and walnut cake I was eating. Fxxxxk the Pussies

and a bit thick is ok..

JR and Cotch are still best 23, probably best 12.
They would not have stuck their hands up to play this season without knowing where they're at.
The football knowledge between the 2 of them is huge.
and The RFC know what's what ..

There club champions and we love them , but no one is bigger then the club and you always got to do what's best.

Exactly. Dimma will pick the best team with a chance to win regardless of previous deeds.
Heck I'd love Richo to still be playing footy & have won those Premierships.. but time stops for nobody.

New flag means new Premiership heroes.
Wouldn't change a thing about how Cotch & Jack were percieved as club Legends by Tiges supporters if they were left out of a Premeirship side.

I’ll just get this out in regards whether we contend in the next 1 to 3 years.
lots of guessing going on…who do we offer up for a 1st round draft pick next year…can we do that?

Jack kicked 2.2 and got a GA from 15 touches last time we played them. I hope Maynard "thrashes" him again on Friday night.

Jack had most goal assists on saturday in adelaide,

And cotchy kept us in the game for 40 minutes after halftime.

They've both done their jobs IMO. Felt like it was a bit of a barrage of attacks on Jack after the Carlton game, where he did ok IMO. Certainly was nowhere near as bad as some on here position.
