Coronavirus

The liberals have given up in Victoria in the election and need to maximise seats in NSW

100% political

last time I saw the numbers Victoria was actually tracking higher than NSW in state based vaccinations per head of population.
My take on it is they are worried as the outbreak continues with high numbers in NSW and that has to be managed stronger with higher vaxs. not a state thing.
Vic has it somewhat under control, but NSW case numbers are 10times that of Vic. U need more vaxs there.
Just hope those huge pfizer orders come sooner

People were out everywhere yesterday.
Worst ive seen in last 18 months (11am)

I was shocked.

I had an "essential reason" to be out and really couldnt believe it.
Popped into supermarket on way home, The supermarket was jam packed with the worst being little old ladies just walking around not actually buying anything from what i could sorta see. They were just standing around chit chatting like they probably normally do.

I get it, its an hour out for them.

Very sad.
Yeah. Agree & saw it too
I had to travel for work yesterday, across a few suburbs to get to location.
A lot of traffic , many people out walking. Masked & not masked. Many holding a "coffee"(??Id Q it, the sip was lucky to get anythingin, I laughed, so the mask could be down.

Unfortunately the game is well and truly lost.
Same as NSW now.
No chance zero so await 80% which means hard lockdown till December. Bugger.
Yep Andrews’ obsession with COVID zero is now a pipe dream. We’ve been in a “hard” lockdown for 4 weeks and the numbers are getting worse. If you don’t contain Delta whilst it’s at a handful of cases you’re *smile* and we’re seeing this now. SA and QLD did it but it’s beaten VIC and destroyed NSW. People have ahead enough of lockdowns and that is evidenced by the continuing spread of the virus. People continue to breach the regulations and we are where we are.

Teenage school kids are having the best years of their lives decimated. They can’t go to school, can’t socialise and can’t play sport. Stuck in their houses day after day week after week month after month. It’s no way to live.

We need to set a realistic vaccination target and then open up. People who refuse to get vaccinated can take their chances. Europe, North America and parts of Asia are doing it. No reason why we can’t.

The problem with that is the lockdown plan is based on every state reaching the 70% and then the 80% threshold so having one state go faster won’t help us reach that goal.

What is does do is allow a liberal state to be able to say they got there first and enable them to ease their lockdown.

To me it is the extent. The % of federal supplies going to NSW is over the top imo

Yep I reckon there would be some pretty heavy conversations going on right now.
Vaccination priority should be at military levels.

Yep Morrison will pay for this at the next election. Big time. It may not cost him in his beloved NSW but it will cost him in Victoria. He holds a one seat majority and there are a couple of extremely marginal seats he holds in Melbourne. I live in one of them.

It seems we need to lockdown to avoid a lockdown

Looks like the plan is to use Moderna for booster shots at the end of the year/early 2022.

Wonder what it’ll be like going from AZ to Moderna. Like going from 4G to 5G ? Will we be able to communicate with Mars ?

There are. Part of it is planning what it will mean in terms of the health system and there is a lot of planning occurring right now.

Whether there is the political will to do it is the real question. I hope so but flexibility and Andrews are not words that are used in sentences together too often but to me there is no doubt that it is what the general public wants.
Medical professionals are going to give a medical opinion and that will be fact based not judgement and risk based. It is up to our elected Government to make those types of decisions

Another new record of 1218 cases for Gladys 'Freedoms' Berejiklian.
813 patients in hospital with COVID-19 (+35 from yesterday), 126 in intensive care (+1), 54 on ventilators (+2) (Casey Briggs: Twitter)

I get people are frustrated the numbers won't drop, but i dont think it is time to give up yet.
We keep getting on top of outbreaks, but have new ones pop up.

Easing restrictions because we give up could lead to NSW numbers, where people are being denied access to hospitals. I doubt think anyone wants that.

Headline from the Sydney morning herald:

”Stick to the plan’: No travel for NSW until slower states catch up on vaccination”

Some quotes:
“A number of federal Liberal MPs from Sydney said that was unfair and NSW residents should be allowed to head overseas as soon as possible without waiting for others to catch up.

“To do anything else would be punishing the people of NSW. We have done so much of the heavy lifting,” said Jason Falinski, the Liberal MP for the northern beaches seat of Mackellar.

“What you’re saying is even when we reach 80 per cent we won’t have the full entitlements and freedoms that we deserve because other state governments haven’t done the heavy lifting and shirked their responsibilities to the rest of the nation? That’s not right.”

North Sydney MP Trent Zimmerman said restrictions on international travel had “taken a huge toll on people in multicultural electorates like mine who have close family overseas”, and “NSW residents should not be held back by states that are still catching up on vaccinations”.

Dave Sharma, the Liberal MP for Wentworth, agreed. “I’d prefer not to see a two-speed Australia but if other states want to take a more cautious approach I don’t see why NSW needs to be held back by that,” he said.”

Arrogant delusional *smile*. Your leader is the reason the rest of the country is *smile* up right now. You *smile* have been receiving the majority of the vaccines and you expect the rest of the country to hurry up and catch up?
Go and get *smile* you self entitled arrogant *smile*:mad:

How are England's hospital systems coping with 20,000 new cases a day. Just can't fathom it

Apparently 1 in 30 teenagers contracting the virus are ending up in hospital ? Is that right ??? Staggering if correct.

Seem to be doing ok. Since "freedom day" sure numbers in hospital etc have grown, but are at a relatively stable number.

This is the future for Australia, and I don't think the Doherty model predicted this level of hospitalisation but we need to expect this sort of proportionate impact. Ie. if we work on similar ratios to the UK, we would have roughly 2500 in hospital with about 300-350 on ventilation.

They are just complete *smile* arsewipes up there. They have *smile* the 2 biggest states in the country due to their mismanagement of the outbreak. Then the PM, who cares for nothing outside of metro Sydney, sends the lion’s share of Pfizer vaccine to NSW at the expense of all other states particularly Victoria. Then they proclaim that they are killing it in the vaccine race whilst all the while they are getting over 1000 cases every day and their citizens are dying.

Yet they lament that other states aren’t keeping up with vaccinations! Because NSW has more vaccines than anyone!

They are absolute turds. Lowest of the low.

Geez the rhetoric change is scary. People just giving up and even worse willfully ignoring lockdown directives.

Western culture is so self entitled and as much as we harp on about our socialism ways, we really don't give a *smile* about the vulnerable.

fair enough. If the delta variant is so transmissible it would seem the whole population would get it, regardless of vaccination rate.

Some theories out there a booster of Pfzer or Moderna on top of AZ may offer better protection than having MRNA shots and boosters alone?
