Coronavirus

i think its because people in affluent suburbs have done very nicely all their lives by following the rules,

whereas people in The Hood,

havnt.
Haha. Unbelievably frustrating. This will last weeks now you would think given 29 is the highest daily increase we have had this year.

Im in regional victoria, and as much as i hoped it would only be Melbourne, the reality is Covid can spread so quickly, and the people were possibly infectious about 1 week ago. it doesnt take long for someone to travel out of Melbourne. There is probably a fair chance their are kids and teachers from the school who live in regional victoria.

I would hope/assume if there are no cases in regional victoria over the next week then lockdown might only apply to Melbourne moving forward.
This is the reality. Until all the contacts are isolated and quarantined they have no idea where the virus is. Today’s news makes it obvious the until it is known there are no infectious contacts in regional Victoria there is no choice but to lock down the whole state. They cannot know yet that someone who is infectious hasn’t traveled to regional Victoria.

no, it means none were in isolation when they contracted the virus.
at the start of an outbreak no one will be in isolation. in theory as the outbreak goes on a more and more people who catch it will be in isolation and it will stop spreading. that is what worked for us last time. and what has not worked for NSW at all.

If thats the case then my assumptions are wrong.

Hmmm..so how did it happen then if masks and visit denial are mandated?
Obviously not implemented in Western Melbourne and of course not school kids.
Mandated rules ignored by many many people.
So next few days will see all close contacts infected....numbers will be high for a week.
Will be multiple tier 1and2 exposure sites and some people will get it at those sites ie food and drink consumption. They will give it to close contacts.
My guess...high numbers for a week, mid range second week and a tail for a month .
Six weeks I guess.
Hope I am wrong.
Fully agree with lockdown but very tired of it.

Human stupidity has caused every outbreak . That will never stop.
I worry about my adult children who can't get vaccinated. Dreadful result in Australia.
Poor governance re vax, lack of pro active work at all govt levels and unrelenting human stupidity.

Go for a walk this morning. Plenty of people not wearing masks, standing on top of one another at coffee shops etc with no masks.

Guy walks towards me on the footpath - no mask. I say “Hey mate can you wear a mask ?” No angst or swearing or anything from me. Response: “Get f*** I’m not wearing a mask. Go *** yourself.”

So many aholes out there. We’re going nowhere until we get the country vaccinated. And beyond Morrison’s incompetence it’s gonna be even harder with these sorts of people in our community.

Morrison declaring vaccine mandates will be left to businesses.

I honestly can't remember a leader who has delegated everything, more,

anywhere in the world,

ever.

HTF did he rise top the top by refusing to do anything?

was it that everyone else were just bigger *smile* than him, in a weird Steve Bradbury situation?

Quite a few epidemiologists telling Gladys (Dopey #2) that she needs to put a "Ring of Steel" around Sydney, but as per usual she knows better & won't do it. Scomo (Dopey #1) agrees with her.

The epidemiologists say that it's putting THE ENTIRE COUNTRY at risk by not doing it.
Even the Australian Chief Medical Officer is saying they need to use a "circuit breaker "

But The Dopeys don't seem to care.

The old saying was "ignorance is bliss". I think the Dopeys ignorance is criminal.

What he is, is that all too common no accountability, self brand focus, non deliverable “manager” or executive that you see regularly in corporate life. It’s all about image and spin and networking and such. Results, accountability, delivering, leading, ownership ? Nah. “Not my area.”

A completely unfit for purpose PM - made all the worse by the fact we’re having to deal with a world wide crisis with him in the role.

319 cases in NSW.

Between Berejiklian and Morrison, the whole country is going to *smile* with them both.

Went for a walk at 7 this morning, with a mask on. Someone else walking past yells “take the *smile* thing off”. I don’t, of course.

I find this huge news. I think our unfair dismissal laws will be tested a lot if not essential workers are being forced to vaccinated and if you don’t your sacked if you attend the work environment.

I don’t mind SPC’ stance as that is an essential service and it would be extremely hard to social distance.

And where do you draw the line? Do staff have to check in third party contractors are vaccinated? We have to consider our positions on this as it will be upon as by the end of the year on mass.

It will also become a potential Worksafe issue. Employers are required by law to provide a safe workplace and there is a very strong argument that allowing unvaccinated workers to attend a workplace is contrary to that requirement.

Plenty to play out here

Im afraid if someone says that to me,

I'm going to negatively social distance them.

Not wearing a mask is one thing. I don't agree, but I get it. Ned Kelly, such is life, Aussie battlers.

But attempting to impinge on someone else right to comply?

is mental.

and I'm afraid it would exceed my tolerance threshold.

and I'd feel duty bound to do a little bit of the Jack Viney stuff.

But I reckon the Alan Jones freedom heroes generally turn a blind eye to the compliant 90kg blokes in cowboy shirts and brown-snake board shorts.

My 70yo MIL has been abused on the street by anti-maskers three times. They may be looneys, but they don't target anyone who believes the assault laws sometimes impinge on personal freedoms and responsibilities .

I agree, but in his defence,

hes the only health minister who fronts up daily isnt he?

everyone else is CMO and Premier.

Not sure that is a defence but a further indictment on the government that they would allow his jibbering to be given daily.
