Coronavirus

Its pointing the finger at the hypocrisy of some politicians and mainstream media that have been partisan about NSW in the past, not glee at the NSW lockdown and NSW people. I've just had an uncle die in Armidale NSW, neither of his 2 brothers will be able to attend the funeral in person, so believe me I'd rather they were not going throgh this.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family, Ian

Hence why I said a “unified National approach” surely in these times it’s no too hard to park the goes and define a standard that all agree to implement.
Im not holding my breath that (/most/all/ some) of the States have things under control. Maybe for the moment. But I think that especially with all these MediHotels it’s only a matter of time a State will have another outbreak.
I think I’m right to say that in every State there has been an outbreak at least once from MediHotels. Maybe not Tassie?

I just believe this will be an ongoing occurrence. Too May people tend to be selfish or disbelieving or just blase about social distancing, epwearing masks, abiding by lockdown rules and such.
I don’t take any pleasure with people pointing the finger at Gladys, Dan, Annastasia , Morrison or whoever. I have friends and relatives all over the country in every State. I want ALL of us to safe.
i think the problem has been the rest of the states dont agree with the approach NSW have taken, and the Feds have backed, and unless something changes drastically with numbers there very soon they will be proven correct, if they havent been already.

perhaps after this Morrison and co, and NSW will realise the other states might know what they are doing, and we will get national standards, but i doubt it.

this is the first outbreak that hasnt been controlled quickly, since Victoria. and the reason is the same. the initial response was not strong enough.
so yes, there will probably will be cases in other states, but they will probably *smile* things down straight away and will only need short lockdowns.

Thanks for the replies and your thoughts.
Its a pity we don’t have a unified approach to this endemic.
I thought that’s what the idea of a National Cabinet was for. But then I suppose vested state interests are put first. States have hte Constitutional right for deciding State matters but surely this is a National issue.
When do National interests overrule State issues on public health?

Yeah, a strong national approach would be better. The National Cabinet worked for much of last year but the pollies (at all levels and on all sides) couldn't resist playing politics with it this year.

States run Health so I guess the answer is never, unless the feds invoke some new national emergency legislation that overrides state's rights on this issue. But they would be reluctant to do that as the Feds have no real resources in the area so have to rely on experts and health apparatuses in the various states.

112 cases in NSW. 34 in community while infectious.

also a breaking story about an infected person flew from Sydney to Melbourne on July 8, stayed overnight, went to Adelaide on July 9, and back to Sydney.

Big chance it's out in Vic midweek.
Yep this is exactly why the border should have been closed earlier. Sydney’s lockdown is a joke and people are leaving it like there are no restrictions. Now this person has travelled from a red zone and stayed in Victoria and who knows how many places he has been. We’ll be very lucky if we don’t get cases out of this.

*smile* incredibly incompetent management by NSW Govt and very annoyed the VIC Govt didn’t lockdown earlier.

Is that right? He actually flew to Melbourne? He’s a *smile* removalist!! How did he get an exemption to travel? It’s not like we don’t have removalists in Victoria. If this is all true then it is staggering incompetence at all levels.

I’m gonna *smile* spew if we go into another lockdown because of this.

I'm still trying to get more news, but apparently he stayed in Melbourne overnight, then drove to SA.
I’d suggest it’s more likely he drove a removalist truck than flew which is more understandable. I seriously hope he wasn’t given a permit to fly and do removalist work when he arrived. That would be absurd.

I’d rather no one came t8 Victoria from a Sydney red zone but if people are genuinely moving house then it’s a bit hard to avoid in that instance. I just hope the person followed all COVID protocols so that he hasn’t spread his infection too far.

Well going by some of the comments re Golden Gladys, it’s like some we’re taking some pleasure pointing the finger back at NSW, given what was said or done when Victoria was going through a crisis and lockdown.
Its like kids in a playground going tit for tat. Read through some of the comments. I find it tiresome enough without trawling through them to find some comments for you. Feel free to review them yourself.

I just wish all people recognise the fact that transmission doesn’t just stop at State borders.
Too much to ask for all State and Federal leaders get on the same page to instigate a unified approach to combatting this and the same goes with the vaccination program.
But politicking seems to be the way of the world, rather than the publics health and safety being paramount.

Just my thoughts on it.
Don’t think anyone disagrees with these sentiments.

NSW wins we all win.

anger at NSW political leadership for not learning from Victoria is fair. You will see it ramp up once it escapes NSW and effects the rest of the country.

That looks to be very close. Victoria and SA exposed by a removalist from the red zone. Awesome.

Come on we are 18 months into this pandemic. People know what the score is no matter what language they speak. I don't buy for a second that a language barrier or lack of understanding is the issue.
Hey, your choice.

if you think ignorance is Ok 15 months into a pandemic it’s a pointless discussion. You don’t seriously think it’s ok to still not understand about covid or be aware of where to get info?

Bondi beach a hotspot? People catching it on the beach?

Do you live in/ spent much time in SW Sydney MD?

As in Vic (for a fair part of last year) the government(s) have handled the dissemination of information for non-english-speaking groups really poorly. The Vic govt admitted as much and made changes, the NSW govt... not so much.

Not much point in carrying this on, as I am sure we will continue to disagree on it.

The person that came to Vic was for work, he would have been let through regardless, and he was tested when he came apparently.

If thats the case then he should have been in isolation until he returned a negative result, as per the rules of coming from an orange zone. but what did he do and where did he go after he returned a negative test?

unfortunately stories like this will keep happening.
i know a guy who got into NSW (close to Syndey) last week to sell poultry.
WTF?

Yep, whatever we personally feel about people taking responsibility, the government still has to do everything it can to get the message across. That means promoting good behaviour and vaccination in all necessary languages.

He came on the 8th of July what were the rules then? Certainly I think that was too soon for a full border closure.
