Coronavirus

While the NSW complains about not enough vaccines they are giving jabs to elite private school kids. Gold standard.
Ah yes, must have been under a direct order of ScoMo.

And meanwhile that other loser Fraudenberg is having “discussions” with business leaders about corporate involvement in the vaccine roll out. The time for “discussions” was back in December you **** idiot !

And furthermore, we STILL wait for pharmacy involvement. Probably still having “discussions” with them too.

How anyone can endorse this utterly incompetent government is beyond me.
Agree so many things should have been done earlier but does that mean they should do nothing now?

So despite a 2 week lockdown, their gold standard contact tracing still has not got all primary and secondary contacts in isolation?? So they are happy that 13 cases were in isolation, great, what about the 7 that were notified part way through, and 7 that presumably were not even notified by contact tracers to isolate. If thats the case, then the week extension will not be enough.

I know people have bagged our Victorias contact tracers, but correct me if I'm wrong, but after a week of lockdown this last time, we perhaps had 1 or 2 per day (some days with none) that were not already in isolation. 2 weeks down and Sydney are still having significant numbers that contact tracers haven't got to.
2020 Victoria has been expunged from a lot of memories. Wish I had could have some of that elixir.

Brad Hazzard saying if they don't get on top of it then we just may have to accept it's part of the community.
No Brad if that happens, you & Glady's failed & will always own the virus in the Australian community. Victoria ran it to ground as did other states.
Gold standard? You can't polish a *smile*.
So even after vaccination you want zero cases in Vic? I haven't heard any scientist say that COVId can be totally eradicated.
The reduction in arrivals wil reduce but won't stop any more cases getting in, though the smaller numbers in HQ mean more resources can be devoted to ensuring no leaks. But I just can't see how we can be aiming for a zero future unless it involves rolling lockdowns.
Poms full stadiums, 22,000 cases a day.... The electorate here would never tolerate that.

expecting some bad numbers in Sydney today. Gladys pretty much admitted this yesterday.

the fact that its moved to the western suburbs of sydney, tells us that they should have brought in a 5km rule. I’m sure some people are now beginning to understand why Victoria’s lockdown was so restrictive… and successful.

Why do they have to consult with people every time big decision has to be made? And why is it always reactive? When do they ever get on the front foot (excluding when criticising the opposition)?

And why are all of the groups they consult with are ideologically based? I’m sure some big businesses can assist with the vaccine rollout, but isn’t the bigger issue actually getting people to roll up their sleeves? If so, then why not consult with unions to help them get the message across? Employees in the health and essential services industries are more likely to listen to their shop stewards than a government that does everything in their power to make their job more insecure.

of course the f up of the gold standard NSW Health was not caused by Morrison, the fact that there arent enough vaccines means any going into the wrong arms is a big issue though, and that is caused by Morrison.

Hazzard did not say once vaccination rates are high enough, Hazzard said if they cant get on top of the virus now they may just have to let it be in the community. That is a recipe for disaster. As I previously said I assume he was trying to scare people, but if you take what he said at face value it would be terrible for NSW and for the rest of Australia.

New quarantine arrangements, higher levels of vaccinations amongst quarantine staff, and the (hopefully) constant learnings from mistakes should mean fewer incidents of the virus making it into the general population, until vaccine rates are high enough.

Exactly. This is a disorganised, laggardly reactive, incompetent government.

As I have said before why should we be first? Who should be last? Should we all be equal? And why dies the OECD comprise the most desrerving humans? Never put you down as as o oi oi oi type Australian.

22, this is the second time you have run this argument. It's spurious IMO.

The OECD aren't more deserving than the rest of the world but they are wealthy. We have even another advantage over the rest of the OECD countries - very low case loads so no pressure on hospital systems this year.

Australia running behind on vaccinations means other countries will be out and fully opened up economically before us. And as I keep saying, our education and tourism industries need that.

Finally, the sooner the OECD nations have this under control the sooner more vaccines can be directed to developing countries.

not good Ian. If its over 40, its going to take more than a week to calm this thing down id say.

It was always gonna take more than an extra week. i mentioned this yesterday, but if you remember last year, Melbourne had to achieve a 14 day average of 5 to end the main restrictions of the lockdown. Everyone thought it was too ambitious, but they achieved it ahead of the targeted date.

If NSW follow the same target (unlikely they will, but they should), then they will be locked down for at least 2-3 more weeks, possibly longer. I’m not sure what their 14 day average is (the COVID Live website includes active cases from HQ, so I can’t use it to work it out myself), but I do know their 7 day average was 25 yesterday. It is literally impossible to get that down to 5 within a week, even if cases start to drop from tomorrow. I am expecting Sydney to be locked down for the rest of July (at a minimum).

If they want this to end faster, then they really do need to make the lockdown harder. And with more and more people in hospital (and in ICU), it really is past overdue to make these hard calls.

Nope not expunged, but you expect people to learn over time. You can definitely say that about the VICs. The way we have dealt with all outbreaks since the disaster of last year has been very very good and to think it hasn't is stupid.

The facts that NSW apparently can't replicate what we have now learnt to do is damning.

Yes that will be the way out, once we have vaccinations. Oh to dream for a country with enough foresight to balance the risk of vaccines rather than going the cheap option.

Yep. my wife works in the construction industry and almost all the other staff in her company believe all the conspiracy theories coming from o/s about covid and the vaccines. She's given up trying to talk sense into them.

Of today’s 38 new locally acquired cases, 17 were in isolation throughout their infectious periods and nine cases were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Eleven cases were infectious in the community. One case remains under investigation.

Unless they change their goal and/or their strategy it won’t end….

Herd stupidity is a very real human behaviour.
Never ceases to amaze me how poor human knowledge education and comprehension is.
Honestly, this is the real epidemic...more so than covid.

Also have just read that in Indonesia 1.2 % of deaths are in children and half of those under age 5.
Something in the order of 400 dead children.
Pass this info on to all those who say it is just a little Flu or a hoax.
