Coronavirus

Drives me crazy that the states aren't yet required to follow a uniform covid protocol. Would Glady's even have a lockdown now that taxpayers (support payments) are being asked to stump up for if there had been such an agreed protocol? No it's all just wishy washy. One state mandating masks the other asking nicely for people to wear them. One state shops staying open, the others closed.
What on earth is Federal Cabinet for if they don't follow the same processes? Shithouse Federal leadership. LEAD FFS.
this this and this.

it’s so obvious what leadership should look like in a pandemic and surely would get you re-elected in a landslide if done well.

poor leadership.
prime example here...

3 weeks ago - everyone can get AZ now, but wait the full 12 weeks for 2nd shot.

today

Morrison - When you get AZ shot, we encourage you just to wait 8 weeks now and speed up the process.

crazy.

All that is true about health care in an underdeveloped country... but if we can believe statistics....and often we cannot...then this is 400 children who have died from covid infection....the point being that covid does infect and kill young people.
Again the point being....it is not an illness that knocks off the very aged and infirm only....it also kills the young who have a whole life in front of them....and who have a loving family who are forever affected.
Its effect on children is measurably miniscule. Many greater risks to the young than getting covid. Young people today get shafted all round.

So your view is it is fine for children to catch covid and die ?
Even though it is preventable...like polio, whooping cough, measles, small pox etc.
Would you be happy to have your child die from any of the above?
Children regularly died from all of the above illnesses in the thousands. It is unacceptable and disgracefully inhumane to let children and for that matter, anyone, die from an entirely preventable illness.
It is incomprehensible that you could think otherwise.
I simply cannot comprehend where the rigid resistance comes from.
Covid is a virus like many before it that is dangerous and easily managed with simple vaccination.
Why anyone would resist the wonderful benefits of modern science is just illogical...but then that's what I have been saying about the human race.

I said all that?

I hope it is not your view.
You said covids effect on children is measurably minuscule ....
Statistically most are not greatly affected.
Of the 400 who have died in Indonesia I would suggest the covid effect is hardly minuscule , rather it is catastrophic for the child and the family.
No child should die of covid but they will unless vaccination is done aggressively and the whole community needs to be on board.......any thought otherwise is incomprehensible to me.
Not attacking you personally at all, just venting my frustration and anger at human stupidity.

As I have said before why should we be first? Who should be last? Should we all be equal? And why dies the OECD comprise the most desrerving humans? Never put you down as as o oi oi oi type Australian.
Really , how did you read that interpretation into what I said?
The OECD is a group of countries with similar demographic and economic profiles. Comparable nations if you like.
The statement was nothing more than a fact that our performance in vaccinating our population is poor against countries we could reasonably be compared with.
It’s got nothing to do with oi oi oi ( which is detest) , it is about protecting our citizens

But our comparison on covid infections and death with those same countries? I imagine there is an inverse relationship between covid "impact" and vac rates.

I think there was some evidence of that with Taiwan, not sure how that's going now.

The vaccination rates of the OECD countries were posted and I commented on them. It’s not very complicated.
These are countries that we compare ourselves to and we are last of 38 in the very statistic that will give a level of freedom that we all crave.
yes we have had less cases and less deaths than most, if not all, of the OECD and that’s great and a credit to us. That doesn’t mean that we can’t and shouldn’t vaccinate our population .
Our vaccination rate is pathetic

Only three weeks of half-assed lockdown and NSW already thinking about waving the white flag.

Only three weeks of half-assed lockdown and NSW already thinking about waving the white flag.

This is where we need federal ownership of the goal for Australia.

just as choosing not to get vaccinated impacts everyone.

one state not choosing to go for zeros effects all of Australia. NSW choosing to live with it is NSW choosing for Australia to live with it

the curse of the commons / externalities is humanities greatest challenge. Almost everything people get passionate about is where an ‘individual’ choice effects others and the individual/company who makes that choice doesn’t pay the full or maybe any but gets the benefit .

pick the one you want - it’s all the same debate/issue wrapped up differently

Drink driving
Passive smoking
Environmental damage
Over fishing
Doctors being paid to prescribe drugs
Vaccination choice
Noise pollution
Traffic congestion
Gun ownership

Etc etc etc.

we need national cabinet to reign this in and pick what we are going to do as a country. Won’t happen though.

Scott Morronson now saying get your second jab after 8 weeks not 12. This will reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine from 85 -- 90% down to about 65%, it may also mean another booster shot will be needed.

Does this fool ever think before he opens his mouth.

I wonder how long it will take the AMA to say "we didn't advise that"

Is Dr Morrison going on his own again?

I think the article is a beat up.
Statements made have two purposes.
1 To force the Feds to provide more vaccinations to the state by a sort of blackmail/threat. Of course, if these vaccinations are being made available now, does that mean they have previously been withheld? That would be criminal . I suspect it is the case.
2 To cover for NSW inability to control the virus and give an out in a worse case scenario...political tactic.
Like you, I would be stunned if we gave up on virus suppression at this stage with such low vax figures. Would be a recipe for disaster.
