Coronavirus

I think the political frustrations by the states is that if anything goes wrong they are blamed, the feds have piled on the Vics and Qld/Wa etc when they lock down. If Morrison was playing the team game this politicisation wouldn’t be happening.

The States can see what’s happening and they can see the continued stuff ups of the vaccine rollout by the Feds, the Feds reluctance to get involved in the border quarantine system has confused them but they are dismayed when the Feds then try and gain political points and make sure everyone can see it’s not their fault when they are part of the problem, some say the problem.

Morrison keeps hiding behind National cabinet and the Technical Advisory Group when unpopular decisions are made, ie it’s not his fault.

Well he stepped outside that on Sunday night with his confusing comments and the States have had enough and are fighting back.

Also, if Morrison was happy to get all the credit last year bragging about being front of the queue, how good they looked in purchasing all the vaccines, well he has to now stand up and own his decisions and admit that maybe they weren’t that smart after all.

Its sad we as a country can’t work better together politically when we are still in this emergency.

The problem with these stats is that they include everyone coming through the system - ie people without covid as well as with. The better metric to use is to only look at the number of breaches as a proportion of the number of people who had covid. That's a better measure of the risk from an academic viewpoint.
okay, that too is another perspective.

On another point, many young people are starting to get AZ, posting pics.
Their view is that's its just not about them but the people around them that could get infected.
Thght was excellent! Well done. Thght I post it fwiw

i agree with all that,

but the qld'ers saying people have more chance of dying from vaccination than from covid was disgraceful.

i reckon that statement undid 12 months of scientific messaging on herd immunity science.

watch Alan Jones play the bite on high rotation on skynews for the next week as evidence of covid hoax and antivax truth.

id like to see their year 9 probability test results. Surely a scientist takes 10 in a million chance to prevent social, medical, economic, mental hardship? Fill the MCG with 18 yos, give them all AZ, and 1 or 2 might end up in hospital? More would fall off tier 4 taking selfies.

cut off their nose despite their facemask.

weirdly *smile* up, given queensland delivered us Morrison in the first place.

The other night I decided to tune in to Paul Murray to get his take (dont shoot me haha).
I listened just to the facts and he actually covered something I was hoping for. That chart that showed a handful of countries and their vaxx rates and of course Aus was last. Personally thought how BS when I saw it. But enough for the media & Labor to put the boot in with it.

When I first saw it in the media, thought how its contrived to manipulate data for a purpose. Then he came up with one with 10 countries with similar population using the same data, We werent last but 2nd in comparison. We also had 66 ! countries below us on the initial chart that wasnt shown. So we werent last!

But yes, agree with the view we should have been further along but its not as bad as its made out to be.

Sorry Al, but you are easily fooled. Where we come last is when we compare to developed countries ie the group of 21. Comparing us to countries of "similar populations" means we will be compared to a bunch of developing countries mostly. We are ahead of 66 countries? Big pharkin woop. There are 190 or so countries in the world, most poor and developing.

Compare us to Indonesia - a poor country of 300 million people on 300 major islands. They have fully vaccinated 4.7% of their population - the same rate as us, 30 million people in a wealthy country. We are ahead on first doses if you want to take bragging rights over Indonesia.

No matter how you spin that, that is a sh1t state of affairs.

Okay. Thats okay, was after another perspective. I think the comparison was Singapore, Malaysia, Greece I remember, more of them.

P.S. yeah Ive seen PMur get put back easily in his box too when over the top, haha. I suppose its no different to just listening to Albo or just Scomo or a particular state leader.

It was a disgraceful performance by her and the Premier. It was just creating unnecessary hysteria for the sake of politicking.

Then the Home Affairs minister Karen Andrews doubled down by firing back.

What a mess - a pox on both their houses as they play politics.

Do they really wonder why everyone thinks politicians are the scum of the Earth?

i watch sky once a week for another perspective AllyB.

buts its only so i can actively keep my perspective further away from theirs.

I think of it as a form of cognitive training; striving for continual improvement. Being the best version of me.

Good news in that the Sydney cluster new cases are all linked. Hope they can get on top of this soon.

agree, but the bad news is that every day, only half the cases in Sydney are actually isolating, with the rest apparently out and about.

Again today, 24 cases with only half having been isolating.

I don't think they know what Stay At Home means up there...

Hope cases start dropping soon

This is very true. Apparently they are walking around Bondi and Manly like they normally would; like they haven't even heard of lockdown.

Just anyone try and keep Sydneysiders away from their precious beaches....................

only 17 of todays 24 cases are so far linked with previous cases. NSW Health treating 150 active cases (2 in ICU).

NSW have done well keeping cases in the 20's in recent days, but I can't see cases dropping for at least another week. The lockdown won’t start having an affect for at least another week. At this time, we should see the numbr of exposure sites reducing and active cases dropping.

I know Gladys has hinted at restrictions being eased after 14 days, but they need to do this properly now, so it ends more quickly. They don’t wanna make the same mistake they made over Xmas/New year when things dragged out for longer than it should have. Lockdown should only end when all community cases are already in isolation, and in isolation during their infectious period.

Paul Murray. 'Facts.' FMD.
Yeh, like Blobbo he is simply a loud mouth moron. But that goes for the whole sky news cast. If anything Murray might be the least unwatchable of all of them.

60,000 tests a day

20,000 vaccinations.

I'm not sure they did much wrong over the Christmas / New Year outbreak? Increased restrictions / "lockdown" are shown in yellow. Only locally acquired cases are included.

On a pure number analysis, this one looks worse than the beginning of the Victorian muck up last year. Contact tracing and testing levels can only be assumed to be to a higher standard now than they were last year, thus NSW's has shown a higher acceleration rate than Victoria's last year.

I can't see this NSW outbreak being as uncontrolled as Victoria's 2020, but with around 10 or so cases being identified each day that are not in isolation, I reckon it won't be cleaned up until at least August, or possibly September.
