Coronavirus

I finally saw an ad today, in the paper, encouraging us all to get the vaccine. Must have missed previous ads because we get the paper every day.

My, what a rubbish ad. Very defensive, too wordy, barely noticeable and generally very forgettable.

FFS someone needs to engage a better ad agency. The ads we see from the UK and US are far better. We have done some great public health campaigns in the past, clearly the talent exists here, time to get a decent campaign going to get everyone vaccinated ASAP.

DS
Perhaps we can just learn what Tassie is doing and copy that. They seem to be ahead of the curve compared to the rest of us.

From the Age, in relation to Arcare Maidstone, words attributed to Arcare's CEO:

He said as of Sunday morning, there were no other cases of COVID-19 in any of their other residences, and they had limited the movement of staff members between facilities since the lockdown started."

F UCKING WHAT?
doesnt seem right. nursing home workers are only suppose to be working at the one home whilst in lockdown.

5 cases today - not sure if thats good or bad.

Inside word is they need 3 days of under 3 new a day to open up.

Depending on if they are linked of course.

Aged care has another one it is alleged

This needs some context, what jobs are the recruiting for? and what jobs were offered by other states?

as far as I have seen there have been no issues with contact tracing, other that the contact tracers believing a person and their corresponding receipt about which woolies they went to. the problem has been the length of time people have been in the community while potentially infectious.

Yes I've only seen comment about not accepting contact tracing assistance here not in any other media. And the only issue with contact tracing appears to be the misidentified Woolies which AFAIK has not led to any cases, in fact given the huge number of identified sites the contact tracing appears to be doing well.

Be a small island state with less people and less returning travellers?
Getting the vaccine. Have a look at their numbers of people vaccinated compared to say Queensland on a per capita basis and you will see what I mean.

their size may also help? not as many people in remote areas.

or maybe they are just doing a better job.

but not their 2nd jab?
we have about 2% fully vaccinated, while other western countries are hitting 50%
Pfizer supposedly protects 89% of recipients after the first jab (AZ 86%). After the second jab this increases but it's not 100%. It's not simply a case of everyone getting vaccinated -> problem solved if 1 in 10 remains susceptible.

It remains to be seen exactly how we're going to "socialise" the virus.

As an aside to this, the nursing home worker who tested positive on Saturday received the Pfizer jab in early May. It ain't the whole solution.

Yes, it does require mass vaccination as fast as possible so you get the benefits of herd immunity and lower rates of transmission. Wish the feds would lift their game.

It does actually. Once the R number (reproduction rate) falls below one outbreaks don't spread. I'm surprised you don't understand this after all your reading.

But it only takes one infected person to bring it into the aged care system where the casualty rate is far higher.

That's true. Would be good if the feds accelerated the rollout of vaccination into nursing homes.

You are right to say we will need to socialise covid as it will remain one of those low level persistent viruses like flu and common cold for as long as humans are on the planet I imagine.
