Coronavirus

Doesn't sound good. Government wouldn't say it might get worse before it gets better without knowing it will get worse.

On another note, wife rang today a med centre nearby, no problems booked in for today. Let u know how it goes with waiting periods.
If ok, will advise where and outcome for those that might be interested. Update in an hour or so
In and out after booking. Really fast.

Blackburn South Medical Centre on Middleborough Rd.

Hope it helps for some

The whack given to federal government yesterday looks like a preemptive strike now.

Knew these numbers were likely so get a free swing in. Things look bad. Lockdown will go another week, nothing surer.

But without job keeper it will be a huge burden to the economy . We are at the biggest cross roads we have faced.

I can't believe the gall of the federal government in telling Victorian's to "take responsibility" for this situation. This is coming from the least accountable government we've ever had, who seems to have worked out they'll get criticized less for doing nothing than trying to do something and inevitably doing it poorly or failing entirely.

Hows the national vaccine rollout going ? Hows the aged care vaccinations going? Why are aged care staff still working at multiple sites when it was specifically recommended against? Hows the dedicated quarantine facilities away from major cities going? All of them are federal government failures.

Victorians have been absolutely dudded by a SA hotel quarantine program leak and now after paying the price and requesting some federal assistance we're basically told too bad, so sad, fend for yourselves. Essentially a big *smile* off.

Scomo and his cabinet are grade A assholes.

mrposhman, that is correct.
they said it wouldnt be until the end of 2021.
that willl change i suggest

Wow, whoevers decision that was (whether they are feds or state) should be sacked for that. Massive incompetence.

The riskiest sector in the country and we don't ensure that vaccines protect them. Remember 1 in 3 aged care residents that contracted Covid last year died. If there are some aged care staff that don't want to get the jab then thats fine, they just don't get to work in aged care anymore.

Yeah this is really bad. We've been *smile* up the arse by a breach in SA hotel quarantine and their snooty Premier looks down his nose and slams the border on us after his shoddy quarantine system caused the problem in the first place. And now the Feds have left us hanging as well; shithouse. Not really feeling the love as a Victorian............................

Feel for those people who are going to suffer extreme hardship from this; physical, mental and financial. This is *smile*; we had this thing beat and now it's infiltrated again through no real fault of our own. Although there is certainly an issue about how vigilant some in the community have been; case 5 as an example was apparently wandering around going about his business whilst showing symptoms and also unvaccinated. If true that is *smile* behaviour.

Like Ian said an hour ago, i sensed a bit of "real worry" in that presser.

I came out of it, all but assured we will have another week lockdown.

I msgd a mate who is sorta close to the action and he said they the department of health is still optimistic figures could get to under 5 a day then next 3 days and we can release lockdown.

From what i see, i cant see that happening.

Too right, pretty tough to contact trace when someone with symptoms ignores them and conducts their busy social life as normal.

There may have been some contact tracing errors made early but mistakes can happen once a highly virulent strain of this disease is released into your community through another State's screw up.
Think back to how much criticism the Victorian Government copped from the original Hotel Quarantine breech.. been 17 others in several states since including this most recent one from SA.
No this outbreak all starts and stops with the Feds who have not stepped up in their responsibilities..Inadequate quarantine, the inept Vaccination rollout & now privatised aged care mismanagement.
Yet now they've got the gall to wipe their hands on any support for Victoria.
Absolutely infuriating. Victorians will not forget.

Things are taking bad turns.

There may already be other examples but now, an MLC teacher who was at a Tier 1 exposure site has tested positive which means that the exposure sites are definitely creating transmissions into the broader general public. And we have a big amount of Tier 1 sites now.

What exposure to others, and for how long, may this individual have had in a large school setting whilst being infectious ?

Ouch. Not a wise move.

The Federal Government quietly overturned a rule in November that private residential aged care staff were not to work at multiple sites, it has been revealed.

News broke on Monday that a staff member at the Arcare Maidstone aged care facility had become infected with Covid-19 after working at Blue Cross aged care in Sunshine.
Three new locally acquired cases were today linked to private aged care, including the son of a worker who previously tested positive from Arcare Maidstone, the staff member who worked at the two facilities and a resident in her 90s from Arcare Maidstone.

Public aged care facilities in Victoria, managed by the Victorian Government, have rules in place banning staff from working at multiple sites.

But private aged care facilities in Victoria, managed by the Morrison Government, have allowed staff to work at more than one site.

They're saying WA and Queensland weren't funded for brief recent lockdowns, look after it yourselves. If this lockdown is protracted then they will eventually have to come to the party, but at this stage it's seven days.

Journos need to out who approved that retraction of the rule in private aged care facilities. Massively dumb move yet again by the Feds FFS.

I won't be holding my breath waiting for that announcement but we'll see what transpires over the next couple of days. Right now a lock down extension seems inevitable.

Just heard the Feds are "debating" today if it will be mandatory for workers working in Fed Age Care to have been vaccinated.
Woah! Seriously!!

Also here is an interesting article that I came across by accident on twitter. Covers a few views we all have been discussing. Hope ok to post

Cover Quarantine responsibilities (what was agreed & why) & recommendation on future Q facilates back in Jan this year

Its this in my experience, with a large slathering of the perverse individualism we still call American.

It isnt surprising. We've been on this trajectory for a while now.

A kind of societal complacence from being overfed, resulting in a huge bureaucratic sheltered workshop that places little premium on merit, and an acute lack of creative agility.

when China pulls the trigger. We're *smile*.

Ironically its the yanks that are smashing the vaccination numbers?
