Coronavirus

hearing rumours lockdown to be extended for 1-2 months.

I heard some ch 7 report claim on the weekend that we will be in lockdown for months, based on what exactly? after all that we have been through in VIC, this scaremongering makes you so angry.

We have this outbreak well under control. 5 cases per day is quite low when you factor in the number of exposure sites and the number of tests being done. I’m fully expecting this lockdown to end on Thursday (or Sunday at most).

yep, as long as we don't get more mystery cases we'll be out of this pretty soon.

The problem we have at the moment Binman is that there seems to be a mystery case in aged care facilities. That is a recipe for disaster as we saw in 2020. If we don't get that under control the lockdown will certainly be extended.

Mmm there was a suggestion that two of the new cases are nursing home residents.

I suspect we will end lockdown maybe after the weekend but phase out of it like in the past, I can see some restrictions on people visiting houses and wearing masks going longer. But the strict lockdown should not continue given numbers are low, tracing is working and vaccines are finally starting to happen.

spoke to a few people this morning in different sectors, many different answers.
50% reckon a 1 week extension
25% feel 3 day extension.
25% say state will open back up but masks continued.

I'll sit on the fence at present.

I hope that is the case David.

Definitely an aged care case. That's really not good.

Arcare has confirmed a second staff member and a resident have tested positive to covid at its Maidstone centre.

yesterdays mystery case is a worry. But i believe they masked up while they were at work.

Yeah i wasn't suggesting everything will be over once the lockdown ends. there will be a phase out period. And I’m sure we need to be closer to zero than 5 before the lockdown ends. But people talk a lot about mental health, and a constantly negative narrative doesn’t help with this.

Yeah. Not good at all.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out knowing vax partially administered that we dont see what happened last year. It helps minimize the impact of the virus

Was on the road before listening to 3aw, they mentioned the elderly person had 1 jab of Pfzr. Person was taken to hospital with mild systems only.
Wish them well. Also I believe I heard they were due to administer the 2nd dose tmrw. Age care facility is administering 2nd doses to rest today.

Also staff have mild symptoms too.

On another note, wife rang today a med centre nearby, no problems booked in for today. Let u know how it goes with waiting periods.
If ok, will advise where and outcome for those that might be interested. Update in an hour or so

It was a bit of a surprise to hear that the aged care worker only received their 1st jab at the start of May. I thought aged care workers and aged care residents were front of the queue for jabs.
just remember, it is not a race.

Not good, but one impact of the vaccine, which hopefully does turn out to be the case when we have more data from more vaccines, is that those who are vaccinated do not get seriously ill. As always it is impossible to look at one case and decide if the vaccine contributed to the patient only having mild symptoms, but if the vaccine does work to limit the impact of catching COVID then things are very different.

I read that while the flu jab is compulsory to work work in aged care facilities, the COVID shot isn’t at present?
If true then that needs to be addressed quickly
