Coronavirus

Not good at all.

Easy to say now, but probably should have locked down on Tuesday night.

But then you have 90% of complaining.

Tough one.

and some muppet just tried to bag out the contact tracers, saying they clearly have no trust in them. Ok genius, have a go and see how quickly you can get through 10,000 contacts.
why did it get to 10,000 contacts when we knew about this 1 case from SA more than 2 weeks ago?

the journo's questions are justified. VIC seems incompetent compared to the other states.

my mate (41) just rang 3 places to get the jab next week "We dont have any supply Sir"
Then he rang the 1800 number on press release (not working)

On why Victoria from a Professor in Mathematical Biology and Epidemiology:

Theres some massively stupid questions.

1 literally just asked "Is the lockdown being extended". I give credit to Martin Foley for not rolling his eyes. They literally announced the lockdown an hour ago, and they are asking if its going to be extended.

Reading back on the source of infection. CCTV footage seems to indicate that transmission occurred when he, and a subsequently covid infected guy in the next room, both opened their hotel doors within 15sec of each other to take delivery of something.

It's scary if this strain can jump hosts that easily.

gotta be a numbers game with Victoria.

they have 27 people / km2

Nsw have 10, Qld 3, SA 2,

thats a pretty significant difference and surely largely explains the consistent bad luck?

I didn't realise there was that much of a population density difference. It could explain why.

yeah its pretty stark.

if you exclude ACT,

Victoria (27 people/km2) is nearly 3 times as densely populated as the 2nd most densely populated state, NSW (10 people/km2)

more people +less area = more viral transmission.

I suspect its epidemiology 101

I would hazard a guess too, the areas that we have had the breakouts in in Melbourne are some of the more densely populated areas too.

If they locked down earlier there would have been howls of protest from journalists and just about everyone else. If they locked down last week and no more infections happened they would have been hammered.

No lockdown and more cases so now we lockdown and there are howls of protest from all quarters.

The biggest problem I see with the current outbreak is that it started with someone who tested negative and likely caught COVID late in his stay in a clearly inadequate facility masquerading as a quarantine facility. There was no reason for the original patient to isolate. This is pretty much impossible to stop until such time as we have proper quarantine facilities.
