Coronavirus

Any examples of a country with a quarantine model that has proved successful against COVId?
Imagine there's only island nations that stand a chance of having one?

We were perfectly setup for one, just needed a government with foresight and leadership. We don't have that on either side of politics.

Would love to know if state based quarantine was a consensus decision of the National cabinet.

why do cases only spread like wildfire here in Victoria and not in any other state?

This sounds like a breakdown in the testing and release of people in quarantine, not a stray infection. Makes it worse. Then the fact the breakdown was interstate but impacting Vic is just icing on the shitcake

Too slow.

I dunno, they get criticised by the media and business for snap lockdowns and indications have been that snap lockdowns may not necessarily be needed. It seems to me that they've tried to take a considered approach here, taking into account business. I'm not sure a lockdown earlier would have made a difference looking at the case details.

Give out toilet paper for those that get the jab over the lockdown period. We should have record numbers lining up.

I heard a senior SA health official talk to the circumstances around the contagious case that was released and started all of this. She said that the individual was tested upon entry - (negative) and then tested just before release (also negative).

She said they would now move to a triple testing regime but that in all honesty, given it was an airbone disease, that in a hotel quarantine environment, you can never 100% ensure that each and every resident you release is Covid free. Someone who is negative could conceivably still contract it 5 minutes before leaving in a hotel style environment. In other words, it was code for "get a **** bunch of camp based quarantine centres set up around the country."

speaking of jabs, i got mine yesterday.

they refused the letter my GP provided for me. they basically said my medical condition is not significant enough and i should have asked my doctor to exaggerate in the letter (they were clearly frustrated at the OTT government rules... But they also said they were hoping the government will be easing the rules in the coming days).

Then I told them I have been caring for my mum who is going through chemo. Her oncologist emailed me a letter on the spot and i got the Pfizer jab.

Nah. Disagree. Media and business are secondary to public health and safety. The writing was on the wall days ago with this. Days ago. Even Blakely said as much and today Sutton has even said that he's concerned about time frames associated with it all.

Merlino taking a pot shot at the Feds in his presser. Nice one.

Some good news...

It’s good news.

Now everyone is wondering how distantly related the variants need to be before the immune system won’t recognise it - but it should be pretty simple.

Variants are like cousins, second cousins, distant cousins, etc. At some point those “distant cousins“ become distantly related enough for you to feel comfortable sleeping with them and it won’t be incest.

That’s how you know a new vaccine is required.

There's a balance which NSW has undeniably handled better than Vic.

Happy with this. We need some heat put into the show. Both feds and State have let us down badly.

Sutton just did as well. Had a potshot at hotel quarantine being inadequate to deal with an airborne disease (he was asked a question about the SA quarantine case).

150 exposure sites now and over 10,000 primary and secondary contacts.

and some muppet just tried to bag out the contact tracers, saying they clearly have no trust in them. Ok genius, have a go and see how quickly you can get through 10,000 contacts.
