Coronavirus

41 deaths?? Geez that's terrible.

Makes the 73 new case number seem very flat.

Seems the weren't all in 1 day. Included in there are 22 deaths related to deaths in aged care homes in the weeks running upto 27th August but only reported to DHHS yesterday. Still not a great number but it wasn't all in 1 day so deaths aren't accelerating from the level. 19 in 1 day is still a fairly high number though.

Surprised the death number wasn't reported with that caveat but I guess that doesn't drive headlines.

Thanks Posh just heard the same mins ago. As you say still a lot ( 19 ).

Frydenberg (Scomo's henchman) is playing seriously dirty politics with just two weeks to go.
The case count has been steadily coming down but is now pressuring for a 'roadmap out'?
Pretty obvious that we're on the right track when you look at the numbers.
Obviously when we've got similar manageable Case numbers to the other states is the time things will start to open up again but clearly we're not there yet.
It seriously pisses me off this Federal attempt to undermine politically. All it serves is make people angry & divisive.
Where's the encouragement to unify Victorians to stay the path & keep driving cases down?
If we open things up too soon again we'll be back where we started & nobody in Victoria wants that.

Another thing on this, the Belt and Road Program would potentially help economically out of the pandemic but we know whats happening there.

I just can't see Dan caving in to pressure to open up early, too much risk.

Death numbers will hopefully drop with the number of cases going down but there will be a lag.

As for the numbers, they do get revised late every day so I figure the number of deaths will be redistributed to the correct days but that won't happen until later today and they keep getting amended for a while. The daily case numbers are similar and you still see adjustments a few weeks later.

The trend is looking hopeful:

COVID19 7 day ave 31082020.jpg

The 5 day centred average is actually below 100 (99.6) as at 28 August which is very good. If these numbers continue then hopefully it will be more under control.

Active cases down to 2,830 from a high of just over 6,800 in early August. This should mean controlling the spread will be a bit easier.

If I hear Daniel Andrews say one more time ..... "I'll have more to say about that at a later time".... I'll spew up!

How's about telling us who TF was responsible for this complete *smile* up ..... now!

Is he still giving “thoughts and prayers” to families of the Covid victims who’ve died?

We don't need to exaggerate our death numbers. They are shockingly high but not surprising given the age and health profile of those infected.

I imagine one death is one too many for the family affected

How could the reporting of this be so wrong. ?
It's not always obvious in aged care whether a death is a COVID death or not. So many of these people have serious health issues anyway and there would need to be a cause of death assigned by a Doctor

Just watched Andrews and the CMO's press briefing.
CMO gave a detailed and lengthy explanation of why some numbers were delayed in reporting.
First question from media muppet "Why did it take so long to report these deaths?"
Why attend a briefing if you are too stupid to comprehend what is being said?

Other than the deaths some good numbers today.

Active cases outside of aged care and healthcare continue to come down nicely (down 130 today, down 120 yesterday) and now sits at 1,017 current active cases. If we can continue this downward trend then we could be in a great position re active cases in the community by the end of Stage 4. The 2nd graph also shows how the % of aged care cases has increased as a % of total active cases over time (now at almost 47% of total active cases).

The other major positive is the positive test rate, whilst test numbers have been declining, the drop in new cases isnt primarily due to that, the positive test rate has been declining, and now getting close to the rates we were at the start of July. Still roughly 4 to 5 times higher than the positive test rate in NSW but certainly going in the right direction.

Frydenberg is a *smile*.

Roadmap? How about 'go straight ahead for a fortnight, then turn left'

*smile*.

Like a mr.burns parody. Killed heaps of peoples nanas and pops because howard sold all their mates the aged sector. And then comes up with this *smile* about jobs right in the middle, to distract and arse cover.

Hes only doing what morrison tells him to do.

These *smile* laying the difference bare between good and bad politicians. Andrews doing what he has to as a leader to serve the people, while morrison and paluscheque serve their own careers

Yeah its too early to make the call right now. We haven't had any consecutive days with less than 100 new cases and he is pushing for a roadmap now. I would expect them to want to see what happens this week, the whole situation is so fluid and changes quickly that you can't make the call 2 weeks out. It would be irresponsible to do so.

Unfortunately we have 500 extra deaths in Vic as a result of poor leadership. There are no winners here.

Frydenburg is a *smile* though
