Coronavirus

Gee, politicking over the State of Emergency, who'd have thought. The pollies will obviously be looking at when this will end and how they can gain some advantage out of the whole thing and when to time the return to business as usual, which means the usual tweedledum and tweedledee arguing over tiny differences in the extent of their neo-liberal economic fundamentalism - yawn fest.

At least the new infection numbers seem to be heading in the right direction, that last reduction, and the reduction in active cases, is likely to be difficult.

Changed the graph so it goes until mid September, so it is a little compressed on the horizontal scale.

The 2 averages are looking good and at levels not seen since early July.

Thanks David.
Hoping that downward trend does continue.

No Dan fan obviously but the sabre-rattling over current lockdown conditions is reaching unhealthy levels. Getting a bit tetchy myself after months in the house but I appreciate the need to get on top of this thing. Come on people, just a few more weeks of doing the right thing and we'll have earned a reprieve. Anarchy will bring us all down.

Agree Lee.
2 weeks to go then some relaxation of these restrictions.
Been tough.
Been stood down since March. As I guess many others.
All doing it tough.

I just tell the haters just ‘stay the course’.

Gee quiet here today.

I went for my usual ride this afternoon, quite busy along the foreshore with the nice weather. Sure hope we have this under control as I can see the improving weather making it hard to keep people indoors, out for less than 1 hour and within 5KM of home.

Anyway, decent number again today:

Let's see if we can get this down to double figures soon.

Then I reckon we can go back to stage 3, possibly stage 2 with masks in the not too distant future.

Yep great result. Keep it going Vics. Stay at home and don’t be idiots and go out just because it’s a nice day. If we keep doing the right thing we’ll get Have some of these restrictions lifted in a few weeks if we don’t we may end up back where we were at the start of August.

Yep nice to be back in the double figures, hopefully we can maintain this over the next few days instead of bouncing back into the 100's. Good to see that the reduction isn't due to a decline in testing. Testing rates have remained fairly high, but the positive test rate has been declining with the lower cases indicating the driver of the lower cases is lower amounts of the virus in the population and not related to declines in test volumes. Rates the last 3 days have been 0.42%, 0.54% and 0.45%, the week directly before that we averaged 0.89% so a substantial drop which is good to see.

Active cases outside of healthcare and aged care continue to decline nicely and down to 1,267 cases.

The overall active cases seem to be falling rapidly too, although from a very high base.

Double figures is a good sign, averages heading in the right direction, just need to keep this up.

What a month, hopefully we're past the worst.

The pressure to reopen predictably ramping up now. Personally I'd rather we continue to lock down hard until we're right on top of this thing. Stay the course.

Have to at least see out the stage 4 until 14 September. The vast numbers at the beach the last two days are *smile* annoying.

I do wonder about all the people down the beach, then again, a lot of housing near the beach.

Today, over 100 but not by much, to be expected.

Still looking ok, but still need to keep the restrictions up.

Frydenberg (Scomo's henchman) is playing seriously dirty politics with just two weeks to go.
The case count has been steadily coming down but is now pressuring for a 'roadmap out'?
Pretty obvious that we're on the right track when you look at the numbers.
Obviously when we've got similar manageable Case numbers to the other states is the time things will start to open up again but clearly we're not there yet.
It seriously pisses me off this Federal attempt to undermine politically. All it serves is make people angry & divisive.
Where's the encouragement to unify Victorians to stay the path & keep driving cases down?
If we open things up too soon again we'll be back where we started & nobody in Victoria wants that.

Yeah that was disappointing from Frydenburg. Completely unnecessary and just reeks of partisan point scoring attempt.

Yes, so much for all being in this together.

Yep and weirdly very different to Scomo, who says they will work with the Vic Government despite being on the other side, yet then Frydenburg comes out with this.

Sure we need a roadmap (and I'm sure they have one, just not giving it to the public). I wonder if this outburst is due to the Vic government being more conservative than the feds. Worked being aggressive the last time didn't it Josh??
