Coronavirus

Yeah. One of the most disgusting things about the whole affair is the amount of people who say "oh you'll only die if you are old or have an existing health problem".

As if that's completely ok.

well its not completely OK. but I dont think its disgusting at all to think or say

that octogenarians and people with emphysema dying is better than new born babies and olympians

there is certainly a spectrum of tragedy and sadness.

no-one gets out of here alive.

The global death rate from old age has always been quite high

Let me put it in a more utilitarian way - when our already overloaded health systems are burdened further with expendable old people who might die, that means that there is less care and effective treatment for young people and olympians with other conditions.

Unless you wanna go the full monty and say *smile* em, they are old and sick and will die soon anyway so leave em in bed at home to die.

another positive side effect ive noticed about cotchinvideo-19

is it seems to have bought an incredibly abrupt end to the drought, fires, revolutions in Hong Kong, global warming, terrorism, domestic violence, Brexit, housing unaffordibility, Barnaby Joyces fecundity and almost every single other bad news story?

every cloud has a silver lining.

Time for HR to follow my lead and update his profile. The Left have spoken!

I would like to point out again that the only person who called HR racist was HR. I thought he was being nonsensical. Not racist. He seemed to think it was racist though.

The other good thing about it is that it makes Trump look more likely an idiot as nearly every day passes, so there's that.

Look, labelling whole nations or races of people as "plagues" is completely fine - there was a strong tradition of this way of thinking in Europe in the mid-20th century.

Think it was more a reference to China's massive population coupled with resentment at their infliction of this foul pestilence upon us. Can't say I feel any different about the latter. It'll be a long winter without footy.

Unless you wanna go the full eugenics route and say **** em, they are old and sick and will die soon anyway so leave em in bed at home to die.

not at all. some of my best friends are old.

but I maintain that generally speaking, a 95 year old dying is orders of magnitude less sad than a 19 year old dying.

sure, if you compared Jack Dyers death at 90 to some 19 year old neo-nazi, the old bloke is way sadder,

but generally speaking, old people have ran their race

and most wouldn't begrudge its time to feed the worms or emit some carbon.

To an extent I agree. I think death for old, infirm people who are confused or in pain is a release. And yes we all die. When someone has had a rich full life and dies without pain surrounded by friends and family then that's not sad, it's the best way to go.

I think it's the lack of empathy and understanding of knock-on effects in our health care systems that pisses me off.

My mum turns 70 this year and if she gets this, she will die. If anyone says to me that she'd run her race...

Not sure that's what eugenics means.

There's no gene for youth.

Let's refer to it as tolerable obsolescence, then.

I get that it makes sense in a very ruthlessly logical way. But far less cold-blooded discussions are routinely shut down in the name of political correctness.

Yes, completely understandable Lee. I lost my dad a couple of years back but he was 90, losing his marbles and not well so I was comfortable with it being his time. When you lose someone who has many good years left it's a different story.

A classic example of how racism works (and gets exposed) in the media (in this instance, in relation to cotchinvideo-19 hence posted here. could have easily put it on racial intolerance)

toilet paper wars.

Black and Brown and Poor people from The West exposed as monsters.

(great footage. the policeman's comment about mad max was funny)

while the rich and white hogged most of the dunny paper from the comfort of home (they pick their fights on facebook).

100% of Italian deaths have been 60 or older.

I betcha a large % of the under 80's eschewed the Mediterranean diet for ciggies and cheap Polish vodka.

not that theres anything wrong with that.

but live by the sword etc.

Not sure quoting from blogs should be allowed here given it is frowned upon in the global warming thread. :help

Unfortunately the link in that article doesn't link to the statistics quoted, but they are more or less in line with the figures from Chinese studies.
