Coronavirus

Tys has a close friend who lives next door to a quarantine hotel.
He says that months ago he witnesed security guards and quarantined travelers standing together outside the hotel smoking .....months ago.
If an ordinary citizen saw this then it is unbelievable that the health authorities would not also have known.
What a terrible muck up that most likely will cost some people their lives.

I still have ppl on my social media posting that the gov testing is designed to spread the virus and get your DNA. When challenged the whole echo chamber comes out of the wood work for a clip. It's entertaining but scary how strong they believe in their memes. Not sure how to fix these people other than throw them on the front line.

Buy them 5G phones

Nah. Conspiracy theorists are often anti-vaxers. I don't think anyone has taken exception to the various suggestions on how to eradicate them.

I watch jones and cradling on sky once a week to try further understand how people think.

needless to say Jones line on Covid is identical to Trumps.

What this period has shown me is we are run by a very incompetent and unaccountable government. Further to this we live amongst some very very stupid people. But it’s these stupid people who will be first to get the government handouts.

You may be correct that Daniel Andrews bowed to the pressure, ( i would say more so to public opinion and own economical pressure than anything the Prime Minister said), I think Dan was revelling in dancing to the beat of his own drum.
In reality it may not have mattered considering some of our protocols were seriously flawed.
Sydney, our closest comparison in population density, were reporting similar numbers when restrictions were eased but seemingly have things under control for now at least.
If only we could go back in time and right the wrongs but we are where we are, stuffed!.

The hotel quarantine failures simply shouldn't have occurred it's as simple as that. However the security guards are human & unfortunately when dealing with humans, they make mistakes. Some argue that the ADF would have been better.. Maybe true but soldiers are also humans & they too make mistakes believe it or not.
There were no guarantees the ADF wouldn't have also had an issue in spite of their uniforms.
We are dealing with a new, highly contagious virus that people can't see & which in many cases it shows no symptoms whilst still spreading.
Every government & agency is going through this for the first time. Heck I read today that hundreds of scientists contacted the WHo & said it may be air born? How on earth do you stop that if true? We're still learning about it.
It's easy to look for blame. It's easy to focus on negatives.
Why? Because deep down we are all bloody scared about what this virus has the potential to do to society & life as we know it.

Sounds like I am making excuses for Andrews & that criticism might be reasonable but honestly I think he's doing a solid job under incredibly difficult circumstances. Would those in opposition have done it better? I have no idea but it's sure easier to throw stones than it is to solve problems.

What annoys me is the ungrateful people who don't appreciate living in Australia.

He seemed to be doing a very good job until we discovered how badly the hotel quarantine was *smile* up and is the main reason we are back in lockdown.

Who knows if the opposition would have done better. Maybe, maybe not. However I’d be fairly confident that this thread would be 3 times as many pages if a Liberal Govt was in charge right now with the same result.

Fair. Unfortunately it may not ultimately matter who's in charge unless we get a vaccine.
Can't stay in lockdown, can't open up completely. It's yoyo life.

Sorry TOO but I can’t buy that. Why have other states managed to control this? Yes humans are involved and mistakes are made, but you don’t leave something so crucial to the hands of amateurs. The ADF at least have training in this field. Andrews and his government will be talked about for years to come but unfortunately for the wrong reasons. Nothing they do now will change that.

I don’t care who is in charge at a time like this; that can’t be changed (as far as a government is concerned anyway). Whoever it is needs to act extremely competently and in the best interests of the community. I’m not questioning the latter as far as intention. I am questioning the former in execution.

Andrews and his government need to redeem themselves and not *smile* up this critical next stage.

It doesnt matter who is in charge so long as those in charge make sound decisions.
Individuals need to make sound decisions.
Victoria is not unlucky.
The rest of Australia is lucky.
Our behaviours have been less than adequate and people are going to suffer because of it.

It just takes one irresponsible person or one asymptomatic person for this pox of a virus to get out of control.

The hotel quarantine has been a disaster, the pink batts disaster should have been front and centre of the powers that be minds not to trust people to perform what would seem to be a simple task.

A Profeesor interviewed on 730 tonight made good sense. And as has popped up in a lot of posts today, he was very definite that luck is a significant factor, in good and bad trends.

(Though his image had "Bruthen" underneath it, so I am guessing the learned gentleman was taking as much luck out of his personal risk factors by decamping to his holiday shack rather than remainimg at his post in Clayton, Bundoora or Parkville.)

How many times do we scream out George redeem yourself and kick this one?
Dan has set the bar high with the 6 week shutdown, means we have to grin and bear it minimum 4 weeks before we even ask if we can go outside.
However I suggest whoever prints thos For Lease stickers will have the presses working overtime tonight.
