Coronavirus

Yes, the good old "I reject any evidence that hurts my argument trick". Sure Lee, the government COVID19 trackers in both Labour and Liberal states in Australia are covering up.

I agree, it was a particularly lame attempt at a deflection on your part. Good to see you are backing away from it now. Looking forward to your next backpedal from you claim that "Republicans are more concerned about Coronavirus than democrats, hence lower infection rates in Rep. states".

You're one more sh!tpost away from joining the list. Sick of it.

Actually, *smile* it. Disengaging from this thread. I've had a handle on the virus from day dot and don't need it.

Well the government's not going to *smile* well say "We let the cat out of the bag, we're sorry", are they? Of course they're going to say nobody got it from the protests.

All I said was the most important thing to a majority of young people is getting a root. They're dismissive of the risk of coronavirus because they know they're not going to die from it.

The old Fake News.

The young people of today are fantastic. And no different from the youth of other generations.

So I can get that maybe the Vic CMO would be in on the conspiracy to cover up BLM protest COVID19 infections, but why would the Federal DCMO?

Victorian chief health officer Brett Sutton, who had urged Victorians not to attend the rallies, conceded today that the health experts did not believe that the Black Live Matters protesters had contributed to the spike.

“I don’t think so, I really don’t think so,’’ he said.

“It is re-emerging because people are not doing things as stringently as they might have done a month, two months ago. But I don’t think the Black Lives Matter protest has contributed. We are not seeing people who have clearly acquired it there.”

It’s a view echoed by his federal counterpart, the deputy chief medical officer Nick Coatsworth.

“There are … cases that have been diagnosed as people who have COVID-19 and attended the Black Lives Matter protest, but there is no evidence that there has been chains of community transmission that we are aware of through the Black Lives Matter protests,’’ he said.

Another right-wing article of faith debunked.

The problem with the rally is that it was simply a bad look when many have suffered in isolation , and even more now that there does not look like a spike because of it is that it gives thought to many that there is no need to isolate, and gives an excuse to break the rules with a "she'll obviously be ok" mentality. As Tooheys said, let's support the BLM cause in bulk numbers but at the G (or Marvel).

Don't be so mean.

It's really important to Lee that he can blame the left for this virus somehow.

This pandemic, more than anything previously, has absolutely confirmed that some people can not have any form of evidence based understanding on any topic outside of their political beliefs.

It's actually quite depressing how indoctrinated some people are.

Vic government announced a $1500 payment on the weekend to those testing positive. Reckon they suspect there are a few people getting around with the virus who are thinking “It’s just the sniffles” and want them to volunteer for testing so they can be pulled out of circulation.

I’m guessing this is similar to how the rot started in Sweden, where they did insufficient testing and employees took the virus into nursing homes.
I have taken in a lot of media over weekend and today but missed this announcement. My poor Google search term selection yielded nothing. Do you have a link?
Might explain the reported super long queues at testing stations today.... people hoping for a another top up to JS or Jk?

So if I am reading this correctly, in Australia we have 15 people with positive tests that are currently in hospital including 2 in ICU.

This one shows the current active cases in Australia as 221.

This one shows the current active cases in Australia as 469. Not sure what the difference in the number of active cases is due to although it may be down to duplication errors.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/australia/

Looks like in Victoria only 5 of the active cases are in hospital (including the 2 ICU patients).

Found it on ABC news site...$1500 to people who are positive and don't have sick leave. That might reduce the I need the income pressure but still leaves it as a honesty system and then the family "get around" the patient to make sure they get a gig in the will and the spread begins.
Not sure why when we have cops and army reserve guarding hotels we cannot have some resources to enforce quarantine of positive tests in the community.

No, no not Chernobyl (Marvel), just the MCG please . . . in fact I'll take the Junction Oval, Moorabbin, Princes Park, but not Chernobyl, horrible ground.

Restrictions continuing? I haven't been to a shopping centre but I can tell you the local shops and the supermarket are getting close to their normal busyness. People have gone back to normal, if they have done so in other states then I suppose it is just bad luck here, or maybe it will rise again elsewhere too.

The 7 day rolling average is not looking good but one hopes it will flatten off and then drop.

Said ages ago the State Gov needed to go harder on this for longer.
If we had of there was a genuine chance we may be in the same situation as WA.

Dan Andrews? He handled this well for some time.
However there were many wanting the State Government to open things up again just as numbers got really low (not eradicated).
I found those calls absolutely bizarre.

Unfortunately Andrews eventually bowed to that pressure & for that we're now suffering.
His weak stance on the BLM protest sent mixed messages. No way known that march should have been allowed to go ahead.
It was also extremely selfish of those who attended regardless of the cause.
It required a show of strength. Ridiculous when people weren't attending funerals of loved ones trying to do the right thing.

No Andrews should have ignored external pressures & stayed the course.
Short term pain for long term gain.
Sadly now here we are.
Dan had better get a grip on it soon & stop listening to the white noise.
Going to be infinitely more difficult to get the public to listen a 2nd time than it was the first though.
Concerning times.

But L2R there were BLM protests held in every state.
Whilst I was against the march going ahead, Victoria's problems can't purely be attributed to that despite some correlation with the date.
