the looney right are better at the game.

no doubt about it. just look at the climate change denialists? the loudest of them all seem to be IPA politicians, mining lobbyists with deep pockets or right wing commentators. all are people with an agenda to criticise the science. and they are winning the propaganda war quite easily.

The political agenda has clearly moved to the right. Look at Whitlam's agenda back in 1972 and remember he was a member of the NSW Right.

Look at Fraser's agenda (guaranteed partial wage indexation, let refugees in, sanctions against apartheid South Africa etc) through the 1970s and he was considered right wing.

The (apparent) exchange between Keating an Beazley tells the story. Beazley wanted to appear tough and try to pull back some ground from Howard during "Tampa". Keating explained, you can't outflank a conservative on the right. No matter how far right you go, he has another step further. This is the game. The fact that the right, everywhere not just here, are so successful at playing this game has forced the left to try to play along because they can see how effective it is. But they just don't have the stomach for it and in the end they just get outflanked again. It is a shell game where all the stakes are on one side. The right will still get votes almost no matter what they do (the Trump Fifth Avenue quote seems to hold). The left will bleed votes whenever they get caught playing the game. I have no idea how you fix it. One response has been to fall into the arms of radical wokeists. I am certain that is not the answer.

There might be a difference on how influential and effective they are, but that wasn't my point. I was addressing Binman's thought that the right moved right but the left is still more centrist. I disagree, both sides are pulling away, but as you said, the looney right are better at the game.

I agree the edges are finding new ground none of us thought was there. Modern Nazi's? Holocaust deniers? On the other side have a look at "critical theory" this is formalised wokeism and it is insidious and is infecting public institutions via graduates from infected departments in universities. No matter what your victimisation score someone else can be more of a victim, more oppressed, more of a minority.

We need to back away from forcing political outcomes on people that don’t want them. If you want to live under formalised wokeism, then go ahead. If you want to live under a state sanctioned marriage of only men and women, go ahead. We need to formalise procedures of secession so it is easier for people to break into political groupings much closer in line with their beliefs and to give them more power to affect change through a smaller voting block.

How's this: Bill Gates has donated $10 million to an Australian trial of a vaccine that researchers hope will prevent severe cases of COVID-19 in at-risk groups such as healthcare workers and the elderly. What a legend. Mega-rich, and a philanthropic approach towards mankind. Compare and contrast - Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest buys PPE from China then offers to on-sell it to the Australian government. And tells us China isn't at fault at all. Can't. Even.

Or the delusional ravings of the anti-vaxxers.

Not to mention that going by the description apparently the world outside the USA simply doesn't exist.

Not worth my time to watch this drivel.

DS

The page linked has a 25 minute video interview with Dr.Judy Mikovits PHD, Molecular Biologist / Medical Researcher. As I took the time to watch the video I certainly didn't come away with the impression that 'the delusional ravings of an anti-vaxxer' applied to Dr. Mikovits at all. Others are certainly free to come to their own conclusions.

The interview is an excerpt from an upcoming documentary which is being made in the USA although it will have an impact globally.

Looked her up, wow, she has some credibility! Discredited and fraudulent research (let me guess she was setup?). Even her employer (who has his own dubious criminal history) took legal action against her! You know you're going bad when fraudsters sue fraudsters.

Reckon you'll find the virus came from the lizard men.

Haha, yep! Quack and a thief.

Seems like this meatworks case has not been particularly well handled.

It has been revealed the first case linked to an outbreak of coronavirus at a Melbourne meatworks was diagnosed an entire month ago.
The Victorian Department of Health has confirmed the first case in the Cedar Meats cluster was diagnosed on April 2.
They say the meatworks stayed operational after this because the employee was not at work while infectious.
There are now 45 cases linked to the meatworks and it has been shut down for 14 days.

Just on PPE, surprised when I walked into Chemist Warehouse today that there were both Surgical and KN95 masks available, surely this means there is no longer any shortage for our front line workers?
So Australian advice is that wearing a mask is not necessary for its citizens and makes no difference where as in some other countries they have been made mandatory or highly encouraged to wear.
Who is right who is wrong?

I'm a bit sus on the mask advice in Australia. Logic and common sense suggests they surely prevent an infected person from spreading the virus via coughing etc. especially when they don't know they have the virus?

I'd heard that a few weeks ago Vic hospitals were very worried they were going to run out of PPE. Perhaps the "no masks required" line from the government was a calculated risk to prevent panic buying, meaning hospitals and medicos would have gone without. The manufacturers would have been tempted to sell them at the highest cost possible, a cost the hospitals couldn't afford.

Confusion amongst experts on advice? Not sure there is a right or wrong in a lot of this.
