Coronavirus

Morrison has nothing to lose by attacking Andrews. Victoria voted for the ALP in the last election, it's not like we're a swing state.

Maybe the LNP wants an outbreak in Labor-voting States? If there's one thing I've noticed about LNP voters in the last few years, it's that if you're not with them, you're demonised as the enemy and your opinion is incorrect on all issues and you are classified as an unacceptable risk to our fragile society. There's no room for a range of opinions in an LNP world. The conservative right is far more extreme and intolerant in this country than it was 20 years ago.

No real difference to the looney left IMO. There's been a massive shift over the last few years where it's all about which side you're on, and the other side is always wrong. It's coincided with many extreme right wing leaders coming into power across the world.

Calling it early, but we're slowly heading down a path to WWIII

It's great we are doing more testing.

Premier Daniel Andrews said a record 13,000 Victorians were tested for coronavirus yesterday.
"More than we've seen on a single day in any part of the country throughout this whole pandemic," he said.

Let's hope we keep up the testing and tracing. Terrific stuff Dan.

Sadly true... social media culture means all sides tend to go full on tribal and the devil take truth/facts/evidence or admitting you are wrong.

At least America may not get involved - they might have another Civil War to deal with .. but then again it’s all good for business!

i think the scale has moved to right. anything remotely left is centre is considered "looney left" nowadays. federal Labor is more centre right than centre left IMO. this has probably occurred due to the rise of the alt right. you talk about WWIII, well this is exactly what happened 100 years ago. those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Disagree. Both sides have moved away. Left think they right have moved away but they are more centrist. Right think the left have moved away but they are more centrist.

I dunno about the slowly bit.

I think, one way or another, this is a distinct possibility.

either a) trump loses the October election and he declares the result fake news or b) he wins the October election.

under either scenario, America is stuffed, and its hard to imagine them going down the plughole peacefully

undoubtably Ian.

Looney Left used to describe the anarchists collective at university.

a dispirit collection of lesbians and Mohawks who drank flagons of moselle in warehouse squats and who plotted revolution and would occasionally graffiti McDonalds

Now its used to describe people in suits who live in $3m houses in fitzsroy who have a che Guevara picture on the feature wall and donate $500 a year to the wilderness society.

You'de see a genuine looney left if Hollywood made a movie about Peter Duttons' twin brother, who was believed stillborn but was secretly raised in Timor L'Este by John Pilger and his husband, ascent to power.

I dunno... these patriots are getting upset because they can't go to a hairdresser, not sure if they are actually cut out for a full-blown civil war

The death rate in the UK not slowing down - now quickly becoming second behind the US.

it could be a full-blown civil war,

briefer than The Bay of Pigs.

it could even be fought out in Burger King drive-thrus?

Of course shutting everything down is safer. That isn't what the discussion is about.

The medical advice coming from the CMO of Australia is for kids to be back at school. It's not ambiguous. Did you watch Q&A Mon night?

The VIC CMO is saying no to that. Most other states agree with the Federal CMO. Now surely the PM and state leaders are only following their CMO advice?
And most individuals have their own political bias and will agree with the advice along party lines.

Then on a world scale you have experts in the field disagreeing on the issue of what is and isn't safe. eg the lead scientist on covid-19 response in Switzerland

Is shutting down everything the safest option - of course, but at some point decisions have to be made to start reducing the restrictions.
I read this is how the older Italians were decimitated. When schools closed all the asymptomatic kids were send to their grandparents. The vectors for infection was clear. Disgraceful advice.

Not quite sure if you support school closures or not from the above? Or if my advice is discgraceful? Assume it's the latter, seems a common theme on this thread.

And not sure where you read the above, do you have a link?

An interesting article about the Italian experience. It's clear there are multiple factors involved in both severity of infections and deaths.

No comment on the Dan Tehan backflip MD? You are usually all over anything to do with the LNP.

It was unnecessary and dumb. Coalition is full of blokes like that. Not sure why you think I should have any insight into them. Can’t stand them almost as much as the left. The prescriptive left wing supporters put me off the Labour Party. Could you imagine working in the public service? I know people whose ideal is to land a government job for life!. what fun hey?
Im a socialist at heart but it doesn’t work. Gia makes the most sense but his ideas are incompatible with the real world. Turnbull could have been good but the nut job right stuffed his chances. He’s post departure has been pretty weak so who knows.
Although i am one of the few who liked Hudson Hawk the movie so that might explain a bit.

Trump & his administration can say all they like about how China stuffed up but as I have said before it's not China's fault that their death toll is spiraling. That's on Trump.

I think there is a big difference. The "looney left" is mostly a social media/commentariat phenomenon. Wokeists do have power in acedemia and are trying to infect all disciplines with batshit "critical theory". But they mostly aren't politicians. They are loud but have very little power to affect political/legal change. On the right the looneys are in power. The IPA in Aus in particular has control of the LNP and has installed puppets in the parliament. They are insidious and play a shell game with facts. Both side may well have looneys, but one side is dar. far more dangerous in my opinion.

There might be a difference on how influential and effective they are, but that wasn't my point. I was addressing Binman's thought that the right moved right but the left is still more centrist. I disagree, both sides are pulling away, but as you said, the looney right are better at the game.
