Coronavirus

to be honest i dont know what are the 4000 requirements to.construct and operate a mine, but it doesnt sound extreme. It sounds detailed which is the modern life.
Similar would apply to most construction sites

Personnel safety
Emergency procedures
Fire (etc) certification
Training
Payroll super contracts etc
personnel amenities
Construction design
Environment- earth, groundwater, water streams, air, flora and fauna
Haz materials
Machinery for operation
Machinery for construction
Native land rights
transportation
police/security
.... the list goes on

Each would break down into multiple levels of requlations.
As an example the machinery compliance would include build and componemts/ materials used.
The windscreen on the excavators would comply to Australian Standard AS100 (or whatever).... specific australian grade glass that is sufficiently strong, shatter proof,

It is fair to say that there are a ******* lot of rules and regulations which all require paperwork that needs to be completed and assessed before it starts.
Much of it straightforward and required to keep people safe
All true.
I wonder how many of those comparing about 'red tape' also complain about foreign ownership of Australian assests (which cannot be reduced without 'red tape').

Gee, Dan Andrews' decisions are political. Hmm, let me thnk, what does this Dan Andrews do for a living? Umm, is he a welder, a taxidermist, jockey, does he work in finance? Hmm, no, I think I recall now - that's right he's a politician. Of course his decisions are political, this is what he does for a living. FFS next thing someone will tell me Scomo's decisions aren't political, if they're not, he's not doing his job.

In hindsight the Women's World Cup final shouldn't have gone ahead, then again, do we know how many (if any) infections occured as a result of that event. The Grand Prix was a farce caused by the Victorian Government trying to force F1 to stop the race as it saved them a large amount of money (undisclosed of course, this is the Grand Prix).

I don't think any country or state has made no mistakes. Some are worse than others, lot's are grandstanding, and Trump is the worst of all.

DS
Disagree on the World Cup final. There were 3(?) Known cases in Vic at the time, the risk of transmission was minuscule, and anyone coming to Vic for the final would have already been here.
It was a week before the Grand Prix, and the rugby which Morrison had to be shamed from attending, and a lot changed in that week.
The GP should have been cancelled a lot earlier- by the sounds of it it was a financial decision.

what some label red tape, others label environmental protections, or worker protections, etc.
if you think those things arent important that is your right, but be careful listening to people trying to make money complaining about checks and balances put in place.

Of course we need the proper checks and balances.

The question is do we just apply another hurdle and then another without checking if all the existing checks haven't already covered this area. It may be that several checks individually cover parts but then another check is added that covers the same ground.

I am not saying slash red tape just because. I am for reviewing the requirements and asking why we are doing it this way and is there a way to streamline the requirements. Might be these cant be changed but if we can streamline the process and get these projects moving quicker, especially in the next few years, we wont have the dual problems of big debt repayment and high unemployment payments.

I worked in the fed public service and we were told very clearly, as public servants, we were not to post political opinions on our personal social media.

I don't think you lose your right to make political comments just because you are a public servant. This is not simple as you are likely to have information which is not normally made public, but you are still a citizen with the usual right to comment on political issues of the day. Would be interesting if this got tested.

Brodders, at the time I could see little problem with the World Cup Final. The problem is, and we only really know this with hindsight, we didn't really have enough information at the time. A week was a long time as the virus started to spread so the Grand Prix was a quite different situation even just a week later. The one thing we should have done earlier and you could see it at the time was close borders with the USA. We went ok closing borders with China but the USA had cases ramping up quickly even with inadequate testing.

The red tape on things like mining projects is not just a case of getting things going quicker. The red tape has to have the ability to stop projects if they are not beneficial or if there are problems which can't be resolved. With mining you certainly have to ask questions about how much we get from these projects: they employ some but not that many people, they do support some local economies, we get stuff all in royalties compared to a lot of other countries. Is being a quarry really a good economic strategy?

Agree the failure on the GP was scomos fault as we know the VIC's follow his advice to the letter.

Good to know Dan puts the financial considerations before the health ones (at times). Strong leadership is hard to find.

Do you think what she tweeted is helpful? The best way to draw attention to the current circumstances and challenges facing indigenous Australians?

Maybe it gives some pause to think but personally I don't think it does much but build resentment in many that had nothing to do with what happened 250 years ago. Surely there are better ways of drawing attention to disadvantage?

Bull**** nothing. Victoria are not the only ones not following Morrison's 'advice'. Most others states have closed schools and will review in time, with plans to reopen subject to change. Vic schools will remain closed, subject to change.
If there was no risk all schools would be open today but they're not.

Your constant politicizing of this issue is quite disappointing.

Different to VIC
SA - An open letter from SA Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said the low levels of COVID-19 meant "there is no need for school closures in this state, at this time".
QLD - Queensland schools also reopened last week, with remote learning currently in place for at least the first half of term two, until May 22.
NT - All students in the NT are expected to physically attend school, unless they are unwell.
NSW - The NSW Government's plan is to stagger a return to face-to-face classroom teaching through five phases.
WA -
But the WA Government has said the choice to send children to school or not lies with families, and distance education packages and resources or online remote learning will be provided to any student who is kept home.
Year 11 and 12 students have been "strongly encouraged" to attend school for face-to-face classes.
Health Minister Roger Cook said WA is acting on the medical advice received "both nationally and locally" which suggests "a very low public health risk, both to children and to teachers".
"The low viral load on a lot of young people with this particular virus means the child-to-adult contraction is a very low occurrence," he said.
"But I understand people are anxious and that's why we've said parents may choose whether they send their kids to school in this particular period of time."

Same as VIC
ACT - It says "at this stage, it does not know" when face-to-face learning will recommence, but ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry said remote education would be in place "for the whole of term two".

Dr Annaliese van Diemen has 3000 Twitter followers, and what's the bet she's picked up 2000 or more of those since the Outraged Right picked up her tweet and shrieked it from the rooftops. There are plenty of things to be outraged about, her opinion on Captain Cook is not one of them.

This did just get tested but Danny is allowing it because she did it "on her day off".

To start term 2 the following states are not encouraging face to face teaching- Vic, TASMANIA (you forgot them), NSW (in 2 weeks students will be encouraged 1 day per week), Queensland (may change in 3 weeks) and the ACT.

it will be interesting to follow how all states re-open schools.

Goodesy can say the same thing becase if you criticise him, you're a racist. This poor little self-hating privileged white *smile* has nothing.

Its not on Victoria St, actually due to this disgace of a decision there aint much at all on Victoria St except for the walking dead

Its on Lennox between Highett & Elizabeth right next door to Richmond West Primary School

I wont read that propaganda from Fiona ***** Patten but i guess it says they've manager x amount of OD's saving x amount of deaths ? , like I said, as soon as 1 of the junkies goes on the nod they call it an OD & pat themselves on the back about saving another life

I live on Victoria St and the junkies dont worry me in the slightest. They are harmless. Yeah they look and carry on like zombies but who gives a *smile*. I'm much more wary of a group of blokes fired up on the *smile*, but thats legal so all good.
A relative of mine is a fire fighter at the richmond fire station. They are generally the first responders to OD's. He was anti safe injecting rooms but now says they are working as he attends far less OD's. But people are going to get continualy outraged about it cos thats what people do. Theres a lot of safe drinking rooms in richmond as well and Ive seen a lot more violence and innocent people effected by them.

I live on Highett & believe me there has been a lot more Fire Brigade & Ambulance activity around here the last 2 years since the room opened than the previous 5 years.

My daughter goes to the School next to the injecting room & she & her friends cringe when anyone mentions it, they see the damage from the school yard & hear the constant swearing / fighting/ wailing of the junkies from their class rooms

Go for a walk past it any time of day & you will see for yourself

To allow what? You've worked yourself into a nice middle aged white entitled male frenzy over this golf thing. Might be time to retire this login and start another again.
Wow you’ve managed to pull off the ageist, racist and sexist trifecta.
