Coronavirus

But I feel sorry for Sam and his loyal band of golf supporters. No one can be experiencing hardship as difficult as them. Maybe Andrews can declare the National and Cape Schanck courses a golfing "hub" and the golfers would be allowed to pitch tents and play to their hearts content. IF Dan doesn't do anything he's running the risk of turning this golfers into Mamils

Jeez another well thought out reason that golf should be banned - effectively saying because Sam Newman wants to play and I don't like Sam Newman so golf should be banned.

over cautious unless its putting an unsafe injecting room next door to a primary school in Richmond & then opening it up to crack heads as well as smack freaks

one of the best decisions he ever made. it has saved countless lives.

*smile*, be surprised if its saved 1 life, check the stats its created a nightmare for the kids & the local residents and created a biological hazards as most of the junkies shoot up in the surrounding streets and then dispose of their equipment in the gutter

sure, they will say they've revived hundreds of OD's, unfortunately they count the smack heads on the nod as an OD

absolute disgrace its where it is

not too mention the drug driving,

FACT, I walked past there about 2 weeks ago, directly opposite the room , 2 cars parked about 20m apart, I looked into both and both drivers were either shooting up or preparing too & yes they would have both driven off

Yeh it's a massively difficult task for governments I just get annoyed at the clear bias in commentary over the federal gov't position (via CMO advice) on this. It seems the left voters have contempt for the federal government following the medical advice (which appears in step with all other CMO advice other than VIC).

One could argue that the political manouvering/grandstanding is being done by Andrews. The rest of the country seems to be in step on a lot of covid-19 matters.

You really are missing the point.

The medical advice is clear and unambiguous. Keeping things shutdown is safer.

There is no debate there. The political debate comes in when the discussion is about whether we are prepared to be less safe to keep certain things open. Which things need to be open or closed is an entirely political discussion that is always going fall along opinion based lines.

I admit I haven't visted Victoria St in recent years, so I'm not familar with where it is exactly. I can't say I like that its near a school, but I'll trust the experts to decide what is the best location.

I don't wanna hijack this thread any further, so i'll post this article and leave it at that.

Its not on Victoria St, actually due to this disgace of a decision there aint much at all on Victoria St except for the walking dead

Its on Lennox between Highett & Elizabeth right next door to Richmond West Primary School

I wont read that propaganda from Fiona *smile* Patten but i guess it says they've manager x amount of OD's saving x amount of deaths ? , like I said, as soon as 1 of the junkies goes on the nod they call it an OD & pat themselves on the back about saving another life

As I have pointed out previously MDJ the medical advice is the same across the board, all of them are advising that the evidence says that risk increase is minimal but there is an increase in risk.
The difference is that the PM hears " minimal increase in risk" and says the schools should open. Our premier hears " minimal increase in risk" and says I want to wait and not take that risk.
I am not saying which one is right and which one is wrong but it's why SCOMO gets criticised for his stance on Schools. He is putting pressure on Andrews to agree to a level of risk that he doesn't want to accept when it is the Premier's decision not his. He is saying that he has medical advice when he has the same medical advice that Andrews has. i.e. minimal risk

my take is most of the states are pretty closely aligned - it’s the Feds who are struggling to keep up.

schools in Tassie will remain closed for all of term .

i know down here they are also not happy with the feds interference in aged care also.

scomo is under pressure from his mates to get things going again and also keep up with the kiwis

Not sure about the keeping up with the Kiwis reference. On a per capita basis we have less cases and less deaths. And we have done it without a full lockdown which the Kiwis had in place for at least a month and are only just now back to a similar level of restrictions as us. Plus they are more isolated and were not as exposed to China the country of origin.

Granted the numbers for both countries are quite close on a per capita basis and both have done an outstanding job; but maybe they should be trying to keep up with us

Not sure I gave any argument as to why golf should be banned. None at all.

It was just simple mockery.

Another death in Tasmania has been traced back to the Ruby Princess Cruise Ship.
1 in 10 Covid19 cases in Australia have been traced to that boat.
How's the police investigation going?..
You're just another biased lefty. Give Scumo a go and stop biasedly trying to hold the government responsible for the consequences of their decisions. So biased and unfair of you.

Victorian Deputy Chief Health Officer Annaliese Van Diemen covering herself in glory.....

"Sudden arrival of an invader from another land, decimating populations, creating terror,'' Annaliese van Diemen said on Twitter.

"Forces the population to make enormous sacrifices & completely change how they live in order to survive. COVID19 or Cook 1770?"

What a douche.

yeah she's so far off the mark its not funny.

COVID- 19 has killed what? 70 people.

At least 100,000 died in The Frontier War, probably twice that

she should resign.

idiotic comparison.

Of course shutting everything down is safer. That isn't what the discussion is about.

The medical advice coming from the CMO of Australia is for kids to be back at school. It's not ambiguous. Did you watch Q&A Mon night?

The VIC CMO is saying no to that. Most other states agree with the Federal CMO. Now surely the PM and state leaders are only following their CMO advice?
And most individuals have their own political bias and will agree with the advice along party lines.

Then on a world scale you have experts in the field disagreeing on the issue of what is and isn't safe. eg the lead scientist on covid-19 response in Switzerland

Is shutting down everything the safest option - of course, but at some point decisions have to be made to start reducing the restrictions.

Switzerland hasn't managed their response well at all. I wouldn't be listening to anything they say, nor the Swedes

I wonder if she had lived at that time would she have held the same view? Unlikely, she would have been too busy trading in African slaves.

There is no doubt the factual history will be taught to current and future Aust generations and hopefully everyone will be better off for it (I know my kids are being taught a very different history to what I learnt) but that sort of commentary written in that way is completely unhelpful and almost dishonest.

The point is responses differ all over the world. And it will all be judged in hindsight.

I think one thing we would all agree on is that Trump has *smile* it up worse than any world leader.

I hope the investigation gets to the truth. It's already been decided here though by many experts.

The problem we are facing today is using hindsight to judge is way too late.

On a separate note, why aren't there social tennis players up in arms over the ban on Tennis. By the nature of their game they keep the required distance from each other.
