Coronavirus

A reminder that nearly all of those in Victoria on ICU are entirely unvaccinated. That’s putting the real pressure on.

Could explain why the UK and some other Western European countries have found the gross numbers of people in hospital beginning to put unsustainable pressure on health systems. Hence government hands forced to bring back some social restrictions of varying degrees to take the pressure off. Remember that the vax rates in the likes of the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Austria are actually a bit lower than ours.

Not to say that even with our high vax rate we won't see signs of this during peaks of infection. But the countries I mention above perhaps hit that point a bit quicker during high infection periods.

Anyway it brings together a bizarre mix of bedfellows protesting in the streets over social restrictions. The anti-vaxx anti-govt libertarians are obviously still at it. But now you also have people on the streets who feel they have done everything needed - got vaccinated, worn a mask etc - and are being penalised for a rise in hospital numbers which they (the vaccinated) aren't responsible for.

For anyone interested I rocked up the Exhibition Centre for a booster (no booking). From arrival to jab took one hour. Then 15 minute wait and then off into the wild so not too bad.

With so many PCR testing sites now closed & the inability for many infected to access RATs it's well time for the State Health departments to stop reporting case numbers.

The real numbers are far higher so it's not about accuracy now, more about damage control because they've lost control. Ditch it cause it's next to useless & focus on accurate hospitalisation numbers.

Enough with the misinformation.

No, the mathematician in me says disagree entirely. Said this a few times now.

Despite being understated they are still important because otherwise all other numbers mean nothing. ICU numbers mean nothing if you can’t reference them to cases. Hospitalisation numbers mean nothing if you can’t reference them to a proportion of cases. You can’t tell how well vaccines are or arent working without case numbers. And so on….

They’re the fundamental base number for so much interpretation of the disease.

Even if the data is wildly wrong?

My theory on why Morrison can't give out RAT's for free? He ain't got any.

There's no way he can come out and say "we didn't order them early enough, just like the jabs, whoops sorry, look at my curry!"

So he runs the "someone has to pay" line like he is being fiscally responsible, it's a good message in an election year.

This is a banana republic government. Shambles. Stumbling at every opportunity. Can't wait to see the ALP election ads, think we will get sick of hearing "It's not a race." That might be Scomo's legacy and looked backed upon as one of the great political blunders in our history.

A data point is better than no data point !!! And anyway the difference between 30,000 cases a day or 40,000 a day or in that sort of range doesn’t mean much as your base reference.

But a base reference of NIL does !!!
If you're happy to wait 5 hours to get tested and 6 days to get your result go ahead get tested.

Can't you get it straight away by walking up at some State Centres?

Booked the day they announced the change and rocked up to the appointment today and was asked. ...
"Did you get our message that we need to reschedule to Thursday because our supply hasn't arrived? "

Ahh no I didn't.... otherwise I wouldn't be here.

"Oh, ok, take a seat and we'll be with you shortly." .... 5 minutes later I got the jab:unsure:

Royal Commission into Financial Services. Apparently 9 times he’s on record as saying it wasn’t required.

Worst PM in our country’s history.

So...Leysy's tested positive today. Had first possible signs (just cough really) on 1st Jan so did RAT - negative.

Laid low past few days, still have a cough this morning and tested positive on RAT. Pretty sure caught it on day 2 of Ashes. Those who know it more than Leysy would know if those dates line up. Defo Omicron looking at symptoms i.e. still have taste and very mild.

Mrs Leysy and the kids all tested negative today to RATS. Now all locked up in iso (But Leysy in spare room) until Sunday (day 6) when meant to do next test to see if anyone positive (suspect kids may get it in a few days). If negative looks like good to leave on Day 7 (not sure why need to wait another day)

*smile* thing is getting tests. Couldn't do a PCR today (went to 4 sites). Anyone have any suggestions am all ears... Will try crack of dawn at Ringwood tomoz. If cant likely have no option but to just isolate and not do PCR.

Then try and obtain RAT's so can test on Sunday (had to beg borrow and steal off friends today).

So frustrating the lack of supply our fed government has provided to create this farce.

Hope you’re ok Nobet Pays.

You’re now the second person I know who reckons they picked it up at the Ashes. There really should have been density limits and/or spacing provisions put in place at that thing. Ditto other events.

Anyway, they’re as usual, belatedly coming. Looks like density limits in pubs, restaurants, events, cancellations of elective surgeries etc will all be introduced in the next few days to try and smooth out the transmission rate and not blow up Victoria’s services and infrastructure via the current rate.

Should have been done a week ago.
