Coronavirus

This is a recent article from the SMH.

Key points:
"The latest Victorian hospital data, obtained by The Age, confirmed almost 94 per cent of those most gravely ill with coronavirus in ICU were unvaccinated. The other 6 per cent had largely been immunised, but most had underlying illness or compromised immune systems, making them susceptible to a more severe bout of the virus.

”There still remains very, very few patients who have ended up needing the most severe level of support if they have been fully vaccinated,” Professor Pilcher said.

On Friday, none of the almost 400 Victorians in hospital with coronavirus had received a booster and about 51 percent of overall hospital admissions were unvaccinated.

Another 4.8 per cent of people in hospital with COVID-19 had received one dose of the vaccine, while about 44.2 per cent had received two doses, the majority of whom were receiving medical care in general coronavirus wards."

Key indications as we know, is that vaccinations seem to prevent serious illness as shown here. 92% fully vaccinated over 12, but only 44.2% of hospital admissions are double dosed, and only 6% of those in ICU had received either 1 or 2 jabs.

If you look at it in numbers. I have tried to build the below table. Note that there wasn't a split of the 3 people in ICU that had received a vaccination (in terms of whether they were fully or partially) so I've put a vaccinated row at the bottom which is a sum of these 2 areas, the vast majority are fully rather than partially vaccinated. I don't think any anit vaxxer prevented with this info that could claim that vaccinations are not having a very positive effect.

thanks fellas.

yes, the confusing part of the numbers are it seems a toss of the coin (49% hospital admissions vaccinated) whether you need hospital, if you catch covid, vaccinated of not.

taken in isolation, that's ANti-vax nirvana right there. (and anecdotally what was confusing me).

then look at the ICU/vax numbers and its lay-down-mezzaire.

I appreciate the data.

my uncertainty this morning came from a conversation with a fit, smart 22 yo, who caught covid on Xmas day from an in-law (surely the worst of strains?). he was double Pfizer vac'd and said

'I spent 3 days, delirious in bed, shivering and shallow breathing, thinking I was gonna die. It was *smile* horrible, I couldn't even send a text. I reckon the vaccinations are expensive viles of H2O'

I posted these stats from 14th Dec - pretty clear evidence that vaccines prevent serious illness

94.2 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 92.1 per cent have had two doses. This excludes the most recent Commonwealth data.

There are 364 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – 80 active cases in ICU, with 44 of those on a ventilator. There are an additional 39 cleared cases in ICU. Of those in hospital yesterday, 61 per cent were not fully vaccinated, while 94 per cent of those in ICU were not fully vaccinated. Of those admitted to ICU during December, 69 per cent were aged over 50. Of those, 74 per cent were not fully vaccinated.

So of the 364 people in hospital 222 not fully vaxed. Should be more like 8% or 29 if vaccines didn't work. And 75 of the 80 in ICU are not fully vaxed. Should be more like 6. Crazy increase in your risk of hospitalisation and ICU by not being vaccinated.

How does an anti-vaxxer argue against the overwhelming stats?
I don't have all the stats but what I can tell you is that I know for a fact that vaccination status of all COVID patients in hospital is being recorded and reported by public hospitals to DH. Whether anyone can find those stats I can't say, it is not something I have particularly looked for.

Universities may well have this data because they are sponsoring clinical studies on exactly that including the status of vaccinated and unvaccinated patients with different strains.

The other things to remember in ICU stats in particular are that "fully vaccinated" means two doses and there are people in hospital and ICU who have had one jab and secondly there will be vaccinated people in ICU because they have other health conditions and are not representative of the general public. A large proportion of people who die from the common flu as an example, do so because they have other problems and their bodies can't deal with things an otherwise healthy person can deal with. That could be other illnesses, age etc.

thanks fellas.

I think thats part of the misconception of the vaccine. No-one has ever claimed that it means you can't get Covid (none of the manufacturers have even claimed that) but it should reduce the severity. Clearly your friend caught it relatively badly, but that sounds very similar to the reactions that our bodies have from a bad case of the flu. The good thing is, he didn't need to go to hospital and his body (with the vaccine) helped to fight off the infection. He most likely now has much better immunity than those of us that are purely vaccinated and haven't had Covid before.

Any wonder people are confused!
Did/had my first ever test on Monday, obviously using a different brand.
My test instructions are pretty specific in not reading the results past the 15 minute mark and it says swab both nostrils, which doesn't seem the case with the above example. .... ???

evidently there are something like 20 different brands of Rapid antigen tests approved for use

Don’t worry, some of the crazies on social media are claiming Omicron was created by the vaccinated. I kid you not.

I am also hearing stories of “COVID Parties” where people are deliberately getting infected in an attempt to “get it out of the way.”

A COVID party is particularly dangerous right now given Delta is still the dominant strain.
I wonder if they give one second’s thought to the hospital staff who will be called back from their holidays to look after these morons.
Actually I don’t wonder, I know the answer
I heard of someone who speculated that the media was over blowing the risk because it was good for viewing and circulation numbers. This wasn’t on social media, it was a relative of someone I know.

My understanding is that it is not a once done then i am protected virus but one that you have the ability to catch numerous times, particularly different strains. Why would anyone want to deliberately infect themselves? Darwinism at its best!

"Covid parties" were reportedly big in USA college athlete circles in 2020. Lots were trying to catch it in the off-season so it didnt effect their draft chances. At least one kid died.

Wonder how many people are doing step 1 properly. Oh geeeeez….

Doubt anyone doing the home test would be pushing the swab that far down the honk. Doubt that even the govt tester pushed the swab that far down my honk when I got tested a couple of months back. Reckon there might be a fair bit of wasted testing happening.

Hows the vision and extraordinary agility of Our National Cabinet?

the collection of Great leaders redefine 'close contact'

So Omicron is known to be very contagious, the first cases were detected in Australia in late November. So what happens..........Covid restrictions were eased two weeks after Australia's first Omicron case.

Two weeks later Omicron is running rampant, and we are now being told not to get tested unless we are a close contact (there's a new definition) because the Covid testing system can't keep up.......................................................................

Yes, the election is not far away, the clock is TikTok-ing.

Morrison's hypocrisy knows no bounds, he'd sell his arse for a vote.

People are selfish and retarrded. Covid didn't teach us this but it continually hammers the point.

Those RAT tests, anyone who has had a covid test could tell you that step 1 is "stick a cotton bud up your nose until it tickles your brain".

The biggest worry right now is the health of health workers & that of other essential services.
Being vaxxed against covid might not make you sick enough to end up in hospital but it can certainly be enough to put you out of action for a while.
Given how contagious it is, we're going to have a lot of sick folks to varying degrees all the time.:(
