Probably because it took him six years to actually do anything. It was a pretty amazing anything, but he was on the fringe of disappearing so he'll need to prove he can maintain a level of performance before he gets a juicy fat extended contract.

It's ironic as a struggling midfielder he asked what he could do and they advised him to do a bit more up forward.
He produced in those few games and finals as a forward.
Now he has to convince he can keep up the forward work but also show he can do the job as a midfielder.
Good stuff.
 
Townsend had 1 foot out the door and just managed to stay in , 1 year deal is about right

Administration of past years would have given him 3 years @$450k

Yeah well that’s the oldest 6 who don’t have premiership medals.
And they all happen to be uncontracted.

They say it’s a deep draft in 2018 so maybe we’ll change 8-9.

I actually don’t think we have any cloggers on our list.
Inexperience: yes but cloggers? NO!
 
That's a good 2018 list of contract expirations. Plenty fighting for their spots. Those who can lift will survive; those that don't will be cut. All have their chance if good enough.

Fantastic position to be in with so many players needing to hold their place. And how quickly our list has changed in just 2-3 years when the media were slamming our depth and our recruiting.

agree, the club has steadily improved in standards across the board over the last few years, the standard of our rejects and fringe players is one of those areas of improvement.

Love your positivity on this board however i cannot agree, the Hammer is our biggest list clogger and i am sure Balme will correct this come years end, i would be staggered if he gets a contract or in anyone offers him a lifeline!
