Connors

Judging on last nights game he definately seems to be the player designated to deliver from the back line.
Very often others were going backwards to give him the ball a la Bowden and Deledio.
Only problem was that he would only kick off his left and many times he was unable to run on if his kick or tgarget was covered and had to stop and wait for it to open up.
Will soon be worked out.

Thought Connors was just ok.
I have a feeling unless he lifts his game to another level, that others might soon be preferred in the role he's currently playing.

Agreed.

Has not stood out at all.

Needs to lift.

Said it before, and he's done nothing to prove me wrong. When the going gets tough, chuck goes missing. Does one eyebrow-raising thing a match, or did in r, 1 anyway.

Kicking overrated. I think its the look of his kicking action rather than his actual kicking accuracy that fools people.

Watch the replay from last week, watch how 2nd gamers Helbig, Batchelor and Conca (as well as grigg), hit balls at pace under pressure and take 'em one grab. Watch how Conners does not, often going one-handed, and often not under that much pressure. I'm not a habitual player-bagger, but I for one don't believe the hype.

Hype? I think the hype disappeared at least 2 years ago now. Now we just want consistent performances. He hasn't achieved that level yet.

The point I was making is the hype that he has class. Still very much alive in the media and on PRE. He has shown glimpses of class and he moves well, he looks good. But what he actually does is far different. Does class matter if you have no G&D? But he's been put in a box that doesn't fit I reckon.

He definitely has class, that being natural talent. I've seen it. However as has been mentioned, he tends to be a bit lazy, and go for a screamer or take the ball one-handed when he shouldn't. Also his disposal skills have, at times, been woeful. There needs to be plenty of improvement, no doubt about it. I am well past the point of expecting big things from Connors though, for me it's whether we can get him to tone down his flair and become a team player instead. And be a consistent player week in week out. Still can make it but needs application. Which leads to my original statement that it will be a great boon if he can make it, as he's not marked down as one who will be part of our longer term future.

Agree entirley with both your posts tigersnake. Currently a soft player who won't survive if he doesn't change. Two weak efforts in the last quarter against the aints cost us.

I've got the confidence in Hardwick and co that he won't be gifted games, but a bigger, more mature body may come into it as the season progresses. Currently, I'd say borderline top 22, especially given the form of Batchelor, Conca, and Helbig.

I'll have to have another look, because I felt that one of his strengths are the long, 'penetrating' kicks forward.

I watched the Saints game again last night and thought that Connors was pretty good. Got involved, kicked well and went in hard enough. I am not sure what his role was though. I would like to see the Jury stay out on players for a few more weeks though as it is a long season ahead and we can't judge the key point of consistencey this early on. This is particularly important in regards to Connors.

Thought Connors had a very good game tonight. 19 possessions in only 75% game time but provided plenty of run, seemed very composed and actually delivered the ball pretty well overall. He is a classy player, will be a great boon if we can get some consistency out of him.

Yeah, watching the game I thought his performance was decent without being great although maybe some people at the ground saw differently. Couldn't go.

I think people forget he's still only played 20ish AFL games and they want consistent very good performances now. It's just not going to happen. I thought he was good last year and improved a hell of a lot but then his form tailed off at the end of last year but was expected given his fitness base. Was in our top 10 players for the games he played if not better IMO. For mine, easily in the best 22 and safe at the moment. He's got talent. Connors seems to be a big whipping boy for Richmond fans and I think while some of it is deserved, a lot of that is unfair criticism.
