To say DC needs to improve is a little like saying a fish needs water. Pretty darn obvious. I seriously doubt DC would be saying to the coach "you know what Damo? I think I know everything, no improvement required here". Seriously. Everyone on the list would be trying to improve all of their deficiencies. I'd be concerned if they weren't.

Actually it wouldn't surprise me if he did say that to Hardwick.

I really like Dan Connors... but he is a softy when it comes to pushing back off the bank flank and marking in front of an oncoming forward. Newman is very good at that.... Deledio is OK, but I think Dan understandably craps himself in that situation (I would to if Bary Hall was charging down on me). The offensive stuff will take care of itself with Dan. All I'm hoping to see out of Dan is some great defensive efforts early this season and then we may avoid having Mitch Morton mark II.

Dan strikes me as someone who clearly did it easy as a kid & because he is a cocky character developed some ordinary habits - one of which is being lazy. Don't get me wrong, I like his cockiness but he is far,far too casual at times with his disposal. I was appalled wtih some of his disposal in a praccy at Morwell last year - one example was when he had lots of time to pick someone out - went back for the kick - booted it out on the full with an absolute shocker & then turned & jogged back like he had hit someone lace out.

Is very one-sided & needs to work on his right side.

some more gymwork wouldn't go astray either

I am still hopeful that he will end up a very good player & last year he took the first serious steps. Still a way to go yet

Its all upto Connors if he wants to succeed in the AFL.If he goes back to his old habits he,ll be gone at years end.Big year For Connors if he can back up with the same dedication and mindset as last year.

Don't agree on either player. Connors stirkes me as the type who doesn't back down in any situation. Seen him play this way a few times live, and seen nothing to change my opinion. Have seen him go straight at Goodes coming the other way like a train in a marking contest and win the hard ball after taking the hit.

Morton will likely have to live with his reputation a little longer. But I reckon he is a new player now. He'll go when he has to.

Thats the thing with Dimma . He made it clear from the start that if you don't go hard you don't play. Our best wins last year were with tough one on one footy. I don't reckon hardness is our issue.
I have watched a few games from last year over the summer and I know Deledio has this reputation from other clubs supporters for being a downhill skier , but gee he was brave on a few occasions I saw from last year . Really put his body on the line . Connors has a bit of mongrel in him as well.
Hitting targets is our major issue . Has been for years and whilst improving still needs to get a lot better.

It’s less than 12 months since Connors was suspended for being a pisshead.

Can play, but needs a few more runs on the board before you can say he is hard working professional.

Out of interest, and I did post this before, and it probably should be on the rumour board not here, but apparently the Swans made a pretty big play for Connors at the end of last season.

the swans trade or recruit delisted players because they think they can make them into better footballers.
There recruiting over the last 10 years shows it.
I think Conners can be our Health Shaw, but he needs to show more urgency and he will be become a valuable member of our team..

Yes, the Swans success in this regard suggests that if they are interested in a player, he has something more to offer.

You would think Dan had enough of nights out in Sydney

Cant make our top 21 - I am mystified..

You are only mystified because you don't kknow what the reason for the decision is. Would you be mystified if I told you he was underdone?

No. Actually when I got a look at him I thought he looked a smidgen soft, so I am no longer mystified, cheers

I think you will see a few suprise players filling the 'sub' role this year, and in a lot of cases, they will be players who you would think are in our best 21.

Someone has to be the sub I guess. Why I hate the rule, effectively cutting out a player and it's now a best 21. The sub plays 1 quarter maybe 1 and a half at best unless there's an injury. Could hurt the development of younger players by taking away game time.

Thought Connors had a very good game tonight. 19 possessions in only 75% game time but provided plenty of run, seemed very composed and actually delivered the ball pretty well overall. He is a classy player, will be a great boon if we can get some consistency out of him.

Did OK... but the big benefit of him back there is if he stands up and takes a leadership role then he lets Deledio get released. Still would like to see more explosiveness in his game but if he has been underdone maybe that will come. He looks like a very one paced player at the moment and we need to see him attacking the packs on the ground more and being tough in close. Will be interesting to see if he really comes on over the next 6 weeks as he gets some miles in his legs.
