Connors

Me speculating now - maybe he's frustrated about not getting through preseason unscathed and hasn't got his head right yet. He's a talented player, and he did go over the top to try and get into tip top shape. If someone is prepared to put in extra training, I think it means they're prepared to do whats required overall. Yes he's been a disappointment so far, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. He does need to get it right, no doubt.

Not quite sure about the frustration bit General. I doubt an emotion like frustration can remain for six months.

However I agree with rest. IMO Connors has 18 months to cement a place in the side. Rawlings should be putting that to him now.

If he cannot establish himself as the team begins a rebuild he has no place on the list.

Please no. They would probably fix his attitude problem and come away with a gun. Lets fix the problem ourselves and get a gun.

In a nutshell.....Well said! :fing32

Is he going to change and become a team player?

I just can not see it.

If he is on the list next year it is because he has a contract not any other reason.

Has never done anything at all to be held in so high regard.

I know the comparison may be laughed at by some, but in some ways Connors is a bit like Steve Johnson from da pussies. He wlaso took a lond time to realise that it is a TEAM game. at one point he was headed for the muggies, the only reason they didn't take him was because of a poor medical report on his knee.
Dan needs to really start to think about his contribution to the TEAM. We all know he can do the spectacular, but footy is far more than that.
Come on Dan liiiift.

On the contrary, I think if he was frustrated early, him missing game after game could cause the frustration to get worse.

As I said, I'm speculating, we all are in a way. I'd suggest the club try to work out how it can help him, because our list needs the connors and edwards to kick on, otherwise, it won't matter who the next coach is - we won't be finals bound in 5years time.

What is the problem. He was training the house down in Pre Season with Cotchin was he not. Then injuries derailed him. We need to perserve with this guy for a while longer. Only two year in the sytsem hey.

Let him be someone else,s problem to fix.Part of our problem over the past 28yrs is individuals acting on their own shellfish agenda,s both on[players] and off the field[Board].
This culture within the club has to stop if we are to get back where we belong.

More out of fustration MB.He has talent no doubt however watching him last Saturday his whole attitude throughout the entire match was one of "i dont give a stuff".I,ve already mentioned one incident but there was a fair few more.
We cant afford to have his type on our list despite his talent.

Maybe a new coach can help him?

Well, he's contracted for next year, so unless you're suggesting that Ross Lyon is our next coach, surely he has one season to prove himself under a new coach at Richmond...unless you mean we are going to sack him and pay out his contract...

Agree, just doesn't set the right example and I'm sure he causes plenty of angst amongst his teammates with this poor attitude.

I'm laughing - what has Connors ever done at senior level to provoke such a comparison. Trouble with many on here is they don't realise what a step it is between VFL/AFL. I don't think the interest would be too high if Connors was offered around.

Big Pussie, I was talking more about his ATTITUDE than his football ability, I should have worded my post better.
Having said that, I do believe that he has far more to offer than what we are seeing at the moment.

TT33, I reckon you can give the one trick ranga a run for his money.

Are you still playing footy these days?

It'll be interesting to see Connors situation next year, whether it be retained/traded/delisted. From the outside looking in, I can easily see reasons why he could be moved on, but I'd prefer to retain him and see what Hardwicke can do once he gets a hold of him.

I haven't seen as much of Coburg this year as in the past and while I have recollections of him using his creativity and accurate disposal to set up and put teammates in better position the overriding impression of Connors is he is constantly playing for his highlight reel and plays the furthest thing from "team football" as you could get.

Out of the whole list I reckon he is the one who needs the most coaching. Needs to be coached to within an inch of his life. It may stifle some of his natural flair but I don't think that would be a bad thing - it's gonna come out no matter how many rules and parameters you set for him. Take him apart completely then rebuild him piece by piece. Could be something of a litmus test for Hardwicke - if he can get Connors up and running into a consistent, reliable, team-first footballer then he could just about develop anyone (provided the talent is there in the first place of course).

With a list so devoid of that many, even good kicks, it would seem a waste not to explore how far we can go with Connors, the talent seems to be there; preseason he reportedly did extra work with JR & TC so the wont or desire seems to be there, though clearly needs to work much harder on the field; athletically he needs work, whilst not quick he's not the slowest on the list but needs to build an engine (which may explain partly his lack of 2nd efforts) and looking at him, physically he doesn't look any different from the day he walked into the place.

Could go either way, but in the back of my mind you don't get rid of blokes who can kick the ball, so I'd like to see how he goes under the Hardwicke regime.

Didn't Dan put in a stellar off season last year ?

If working hard during the off season gives us 09's performance, I reckon we try a different tact and supply him with beers and smokes this pre-season.

I hope Beavis can turn him around. Connors could be the next Nathan Brown in terms of skill, excitement and impact if he wants to be.

The Saints were interested in him last year.Perhaps a trade:
McMahon and Conners for the Saints 2nd rnd pick[Pick 35ish].
