Connors

I don't rate him, a flashy inconsistent dumb selfish footballer.

I think his skills are over-rated - he lacks control and consistency with his disposals. I also have concerns that he is not skilled on both sides of his body ? - seems he always wants to baulk and turn onto his natural foot. If this is true players will quickly work him out.

He got a great leap, marks well, knows where the ball is, is creative and over time will become a more than average player for us. He'll be in good company.

Got a feeling he's just to good for VFL and knows it.
Dan needs a big injury free preseason and then plenty of game time to find out how big a difference it is at AFL level when nearly all the players have as much raw talent as him. Curtail his lair a little bit and get him playing hardnose senior team footy.

Wow. Connors dumb? Wow.

Yep has me scratching my head too. Have seen him do some remarkable things on the paddock, many of them team based.
Occasionally overly flashy I could wear but dumb? :help
He is a natural footballer who's still young and finding his way.
He'll make mistakes along the way sure but that doesn't make him dumb, inexperienced perhaps.

He'll have a good 2009 as long as Wallace plays him.

And here I was thinking Connors looked great in the few games he played this year especially considering he's only 19 and played a handful of games thus far. How many games? 8 games. Average 14 possessions in the 4 games he played this year. This guy is going to be quality. He's a keeper.

Only knock I have on him is his disposal.

People bag McMahon and Bowden who have 1 shocker every 20 kicks.

Connors has been dribbling them along the ground and kicking far worse kicks far more often - I hope this is a combination of inexperience and nerves which mean it will improve.

Is not bad in front of goal though!!

You're right, he's good in front of goal which is one of several reasons why everyone thinks he'll develop into a genuine matchwinner, he has that killer instinct on the field and doesn't seem to feel pressure.

I just hope next year he can kick cleanly off both feet in general play, otherwise we aren't getting the best out of him.

How many games has he played at senior level?

Even cotchin made plenty of skill errors by foot in the last few games. It takes time for these kids to adjust to AFL football no matter how much raw talent they have.

Not sure Connors was traded for to provide run and precise delivery out of defence :-\ The comparison to McMahon is ludicrous on so many levels.

if he was older we would have won a premiership, but nooooo he hade to be 20

Yep he had a vastly interrupted pre-season(Moonboot).
Let's see how he goes with a full one first rather than ripping into this talented 19yr old. ::)

Already aware of his pre-season. But when he dribbles it along the ground at the 5 minute mark of the first quarter then fitness it not an excuse.

I think he's an awesome young player and will play a vital role in future premierships. The comparison to Stevie Johnson is spot on... which also means he won't become a star until the player group pressures him into getting there ;)

No doubt the club is fully aware of the rough edges. At dp58 you'd expect some but there is plenty there to work with.
Given your patience with some other players on our list over the years, I am very surprised at how quick you are to lay the boot in to DC.

I think you are misinterpreting my stance here, Daniel will be a star for this club and I have all the patience in the world for him!

It just seems weird how we are so forgiving of our player's flaws when they are under 20, then most of us quickly turn on them.

Andrew Raines was hailed only 18 months ago. His kicking was just as bad in 2006 as it was last year, the only thing that changed was the honeymoon ended.

Jake King was a love-child back in Round 4, but eventually we couldn't tolerate his kicking anymore and now we want him delisted too. His kicking didn't get worse, we just noticed it more.

Bretn Hartigan was a "great young player" and we ignored his foot skills too. He got delisted last year. On the other hand, Shane Tuck is a player we turned on who went away, worked on his skills, then burst out as a gun again this year.

At his best, Connors is a far better kick than all of these players.

I just really hope he eliminates his worst otherwise his kicking will be... and I HATE to say this... but his one-sided "fantastic left foot" with the "occassional brain fades and errors" in his kicking reminds me of a certain recent retiree :-X

Remember how in 2001 we thought Tivendale was one of the best kicks in the league? Well I do.

I'm just worried about a couple of early signs that Daniel could go the same way.

Maybe I'm just paranoid :hihi I do have high expectations of the Condog.
