Changes vs Sydney Swans

Absolutely laughable that posters wanting Maurice back in
Seriously watch the game !
There are at least 6 players who played VFL yesterday who are way ahead of him
To be honest , if his last name was Smith or Brown he wouldn’t be able to enter punt rd let alone train on the oval
Skills are very ordinary , missed targets continually yesterday ( again )and doesn’t read the drop of ball at all
Bauer, Banks, Sonsie , Biggy ,Dow , Tresize all deserve a chance to play AFL over next 2 weeks
Those saying Coulthard should watch yesterdays game as well
9 disposals at VFL doesn’t get you a game of AFL I am afraid

Interesting that some are saying the flu bug, which has certainly created a path of destruction last week or so at my workplace, has been through the Club. Is that fact or just a guess/excuse? It’s certainly very prevalent at the moment, thats for sure.
The flu is very prevalent this year and Dusty was out with flu like symptoms. Players spend alot of time within the vicinity of each other so highly probable other players not feeling 100%. Plausible explanation for what was a terrible display.

Yep I've seen enough. Rioli is not AFL level, arguably not VFL level. Is contracted through 2024 so I suspect he'll be given more chances.

Need to give more games to the youngsters but as you say on merit.

Yeah, I watched the game maybe more intently than you. Junior had 8 tackles, pressured hard. Similar to what he did last week v saints. But hey let's just keep the same setup as thurs night. You mention skills geez half the team were butchering it, more so in the forward line.

Biggy 9 disposals, and 3 hit outs, and you question whether people watched the game yesterday or did you confuse him with El Nour. Sonsie who are you going to replace him with, Martin will come in maybe Prestia too.
Banks plays more wing, wouldn't mind him in for macca but you know that won't happen. Trezise love the way he plays. He won't be debuting next week.
Dow ive sung his praises before but no. Bauer is likely the only one from that lot who could debut and hope he does.

Need junior's pressure and closing down the space so opposition players don't waltz it out of there so easily.

Seriously, did you actually watch Thursday night yourself? And have you listened to what Dimma said in the podcast about George and role players and them being erroneously judged on stats? Rioli is one of the best pressure and role players we have. And at AFL level Thursday night, we lacked totally what he provides imo. But go ahead, judge a role player on offensive output and stats!
shot your self in the foot straight away with me by saying Biggy and Dow should be included ahead of MJR. Those two will provide zip at AFL level based on what I’ve seen.

It's really interesting.

Pressure that causes opposition turnover when they are out that leads to a goal the other way is almost worth 8-9 points - the 50% chance of a goal you saved and the one you got.

It just isn't a stat that exists though - although we all see when MRJ plays that he causes this exact thing to happen at AFL level.

Unfortunately, his 1 touch handling is sub VFL level and just invites massive pressure on to himself at any level. His disposals and finishing are also poor - these things we all see. So I guess its the bits that are harder to measure vs the bits that are easy to.

I reckon we can only play 3 out of Jack, Ryan, Miller, Pickett and Bauer (as a forward). But need one of Ryan and Miller.
So either Jack is rested, Bauer doesnt play or Pickett gets dropped or moved back to the wing.

I'll join the sheep and say Bauer should play up forward, drop Ryan back to the VFL to allow him to dominate for a few weeks, and drop Pickett (maybe to sub).

I would also leave Rioli in the VFL for his own good, he needs to get a kick before he comes back to AFL level. We might be better with him in the AFL but i dont think it is good for his development at this point.

After what I would describe as a break out game last round against the Saints I cant see how anyone can seriously now call for the sacking of Miller in favour of keeping Jack in.

Jack has again demonstrated that he can't keep up.

The time has surely come where Jack (like Buddy) has reached the point where serious attempts are made to give opportunities to others. If not Balta up forward, or Bauer then by all means Nuyen.
Otherwise we are wasting an opportunity.

Jack is still out most likely play to kick a match winning score. Miller has never kicked more than 2 goals in a game, and he has only kicked goals in 2 out of 9 games this year. Our best passage to goal in terms of talls forward of the ball is Jack and Ryan.

Our balance was way out of whack in the forward line on Thursday. We looked good a couple of weeks ago against Freo when we only had Jack and Ryan (with Pickett as the medium), we then looked good against the Saints (with Miller in for Pickett, though Ryan only played half the game anyway).

I think we should debut Bauer and he would go into that 3rd tall / medium role. So Pickett is out and then its a choice of Miller or Ryan. Ryan has the bigger upside and also kicks a lot more goals so stays in for me.

The other 3 forwards we need smalls, so Clarke and Baker are 2 of them, and need 1 of MRJ / Coulthard needs to join them IMO.

Our forward line is totally out of whack, and we need to rebalance it.

I agree on the structure, and the Ryan or Miller choice would be down to personal preference to an extent, though agree with the rest.

Needs to be 2 talls (I supports Nank in the ruck), plus a medium (Bauer or Pickett) and then 3 smalls (Clarke, Baker and 1 other - for me we should give Coulthard a crack - agree with leaving MRJ in the 2's for now).

I think it's been relatively easy to measure this year. Even his pressure has dropped off this year. Too many nearly got there situations. Saints game was a perfect example. Count how many times this his pressure has actually impacted the opposition disposal. Very little. Check how damaging his direct opponent has been in games. He's gone backwards on last year in almost every single stat including pressure where he really needed to improve further. This is why he's in and out of the side like a yo-yo. Has been given plenty of opportunities. You have to have more to your bow than just pressure. I just can't see it but I'd love him to prove me wrong. His dad is my favourite player of all time. He was a magician.

Understand fully the role,it involves running to the wings to block space ,then getting back to chase, tackle ,kick gls when we get it back,mj who's not in peak fitness and his tank has yet to peak,is struggling later in games to do his role, thus goes missing in games as it's gets late.

I don’t expect Prestia to play , no such thing as a one week calf

In Martin, Bauer, Banks
Out Cumberland, Graham, Short

Time for the Fridge to have a spell, hasn’t been great all year.

Unleash a couple of kids. I would almost consider Sonsie as well for Pickett but maybe he gets another week.

Need quick small forwards to help lock the ball in our F50. Those changes don’t achieve that outcome. Was our go to strategy when we were dominating and we need to go back to it, imo of course

We keep going to the same well and expecting different outcomes. We a not in final calculations let's be realistic those 3 wins false reading for me .Time to bring some kids in let's see if we can find are few look to the future.

I am not sure if it is like for like but from reports Trezis had a much better all-round game than MRJ and Coulthard so maybe he could come into the equation as a small forward. Re Baker, I still prefer him in defence where his run and hardness works so well especially as Short will be out for a time. Glad I am not a selector!

Nah he's not a small forward. Mid size defender / forward. We've tried that in the structure. We need small nippy players to pressure. Coulthard has looked good to me in the 2 games he has played and I'd give him a shot.

I like Bakes back aswell but I think its more of necessaity that we need to play him forward, we have several types that can replace Short down back (Banks or Brown are probably likely, possibly even Tresize), but we have few to play that small forward role.

Thanks for clarification on Trezis as I was only going on the Brissie FVL reports. Agree we need to get our mosquito squadron running again so we have to try the untried soon and why not as we have nothing to lose next Thursday
