Changes vs Sydney Swans

Bauer has to come in.

Wouldn’t read too much into last night’s loss. Illness has gone through the Tiger camp, Dusty not the only one, a little bird tells me.
Heard the same.

I think it was a factor, how big? Who knows, but combined with post-bye, and post-cotchy 300th let down, we were unsurprisingly flat as a pancake. Then there's the matter of playing a top side away interstate.

I was hoping for an upset until the Dusty out news, then I was just hoping for a decent showing. By the end I was just glad we stuck at it enough to kick a few goals and keep the margin to 80.

McQualtor in his presser certainly alluded to something else. Was asked if it was the bye and said something like "maybe, but I don't think that was what impacted the result today", and was then asked about losing stars (Prestia, Dusty, Lunch etc) and was it 1 too many and he said "we miss them, but I don't think it was the reason for tonight". They never pressed him as to what he thought the reason was, but he certainly thinks they are easy excuses and obviously something else is up, and would seem logical if it was illness.

Reckon we looked too tall again. Not enough run.

3 weeks ago against Freo we looked mobile, only played with Ryan and Jack as talls forward of the ball, with Marlion as the 3rd.
We changed that up against the Saints with putting Miller in for Pickett, and it worked well.
I don't think we can play all 4 of them there.

1 of that 3 (Ryan, Miller and Pickett) needs to come out and it would probably be Miller for me.

Out Short (inj), Miller, Cumberland
In Banks, Martin, Coulthard (we need at least 1 crumber, either Coulthard, MRJ or Green whichever is best in todays game)

Ok so after watching the 2's. Sligth changes.

Out Short (inj), Miller, Cumberland, Pickett
In Banks (for Short), Martin (for Cumbo), Bauer (as 3rd tall for Miller) and Coulthard (for a pressure forward instead of Marlion)

Marlion and Hugo to both go and play for the 2's for the next few weeks and try and get some touch back.

Not sure who will be the sub.

We need a shake up in what is loosely termed our forward line. From reports Bauer played really well in defence in yesterday's VFL match and in the fourth quarter play outstandingly well as a forward. Just what we need right now so unlikely to get deservedly promoted.

I reckon we should bring Biggie in, and possibly debut Banks or Brown.

Clearly Short is out and Cumbo possibly, but it is time to give Biggie a go and to debut some of the youngsters.

DS
Still not sure about Biggie. He gets good reports at VFL level but AFL level is a different game altogether and he can't switch off for a moment. Still you have to reward a player who is showing good form at VFL just to see if they can cut it especially as our finals chances are diminishing

Pickett and Graham were horrible. Some have said Cumberland yeah right new scapegoat, he at least presented, took 5 marks and kicked a goal. Needs to play.

Outs; If I had to pick one of them id say, Graham, Short (inj), Miller, or Ryan take your pick as cant have both with Jack.
Ins: Martin, Prestia (if fit), Bauer, Rioli Junior
* If Prestia is not fit, then Ralphsmith comes in thought he did ok, better than previous weeks.

After what I would describe as a break out game last round against the Saints I cant see how anyone can seriously now call for the sacking of Miller in favour of keeping Jack in.

Jack has again demonstrated that he can't keep up.

The time has surely come where Jack (like Buddy) has reached the point where serious attempts are made to give opportunities to others. If not Balta up forward, or Bauer then by all means Nuyen.
Otherwise we are wasting an opportunity.

This is my theory too.

In my experience, if one person in the workplace has 'flu like symptoms', most do.

Bookies had us at $3.05 them 1.36 mid afternoon, Brisbane aren't that good. Bookies knew something was up. When Dusty wasn't playing out to $3.60.

Read the thread in total and am surprised at some of the calls.
When we were at our best 4-5 seasons ago, our forward structure had the three very quick pressure players, with Jack, Lynch and a medium sized forward. Thursday night, we had Jack, Judson Clarke, who is still underdeveloped physically imo, with Ryan, Cumberland, Pickett and Baker? Far too slow, need speed to pressure and keep the ball in F50 imo.
We really need MJR and Coulthard to come in to the side, and keep Clarke in too, to get the forward 50 pressure and speed back in the side, in my opinion. We’ve gone so far away from what worked in the past, and I think we cannot go any worse than the rubbish we dished up 2 nights ago? Surely we could give it a try.
Calls for Biggie to come in is just change for the sake of change imo. He’s not looking like he can be an AFL standard player from what I’ve seen in the VFL. The 2021 draft haul all look like decent prospects to me, but are still very young and will take a bit of time to develop. Banks and Sonsie can play the game, but need time to develop physically to deal with the hits from bigger opponents at AFL level. They’ve certainly got the requisite skills, both of them.
Saying that, I’d rather we played Brown in Shorts role while Shorty is injured, although I’m guessing Baker will be moved back as cover. And surely Bauer will be given a chance this week to replace Miller? And Pickett is NOT a forward, he’s either a winger or an onballer, doesn’t have the pace to play the role. Was very reliable on the wing and a star on baller for South Fremantle, and we move him forward? Just as stupid as playing Cotchin forward. Whatever happened to our policy of playing players in their areas of strength, the strengths that got them drafted in the first place?
Interesting that some are saying the flu bug, which has certainly created a path of destruction last week or so at my workplace, has been through the Club. Is that fact or just a guess/excuse? It’s certainly very prevalent at the moment, thats for sure.

I left at 3/4, but juddy seemed to be kicking at about 5% efficiency.

Its time to play the kids, again.

Out: short, cumbo, clark, jross, miller

In: dusty, brown, banks, biggy, coultard
Clark butchered the ball a little but thought overall he played with promise. 6 score involvements out of our 18. Needs to stay in.

It was a 2018 prelim like performance. The club will know if that’s the case or not.
