Changes vs Sydney Swans

Our 2 shiny new mids were awful tonight, completely carved up but it’s all the fault of Ross, Cumbo etc…this is becoming quite a low IQ forum

I reckon we should bring Biggie in, and possibly debut Banks or Brown.

Clearly Short is out and Cumbo possibly, but it is time to give Biggie a go and to debut some of the youngsters.

Jack and Cotch are no longer competitive against top 4 teams and almost certainly will not be with us next year. We can't make top 4 and as a result these two greats of our club should now only be called upon to fill in when absolutely necessary, with a final appearance in a late home game.

Otherwise their positions should be used to test genuine hopefuls.

Again I'd have Balta as our key forward, with much more power back than forward now, and no one else on the immediate horizon capable of filling Jacks role. Jack Graham, a great contributor in the past, also looks to be in trouble, contract or no contract.

In Banks, Coulthard, Martin and Nuyen.
Out Short injured, Cotchin and Riewoldt managed, Graham and Ralphsmith sub, omitted.

B Vlastuin Young (Buddy) Grimes
HB Baker Broad Banks*
C McIntosh Rioli D, Coulthard ... Cumberland
HF Martin Miller Cumberland ... Bauer*
F Clarke Balta Ryan
R Nankervis Taranto Bolton
I/C Hopper Pickett Ross and Nuyen
Sub Cotchin.

After todays vfl effort(s) Bauer, should be preferred over Coulthard

As in the past this probably won't happen but looking ahead maybe it should!

Reckon we looked too tall again. Not enough run.

3 weeks ago against Freo we looked mobile, only played with Ryan and Jack as talls forward of the ball, with Marlion as the 3rd.
We changed that up against the Saints with putting Miller in for Pickett, and it worked well.
I don't think we can play all 4 of them there.

1 of that 3 (Ryan, Miller and Pickett) needs to come out and it would probably be Miller for me.

Out Short (inj), Miller, Cumberland
In Banks, Martin, Coulthard (we need at least 1 crumber, either Coulthard, MRJ or Green whichever is best in todays game)

Soldo has a good game today in the VFL
He then plays next week

yeah, Pickett has been ok playing basically as a "tall" but as a "small forward" last night he was ineffective.
my changes are pretty similar. trying not to be too reactive to 1 terrible game-
Out: Short, Ross, Cumberland (inj) or Clarke and 1 of Miller/Ryan/Jack
In: Brown, Banks, Dusty, next best small forward. (prob MRjr cos i cant see us going 3 debutantes.)

I would almost go Biggie for another tall as well, but again i cant see us bringing in so many very inexperienced players.

There is a big opportunity for the VFL boys today. The Lions were much harder and straight lined the ball much better than us last night. I can't remember us being beaten that badly in the contest since 2016. There were lots of panicked handballs to avoid body contact last night. Darcy Wilmot is only a young slightly built player but he put his body on the line.
Miller, Ryan, Pickett, Graham, Cumbo, Jack, Hugo, Juddy, Ross and McIntosh could all be dropped on last nights effort and wouldn't have a right to complain.

I think Marlion in the forward line is basically a newer version of Caddy. When it was just 1 tall forward and a resting ruck, that role worked for us. As soon as you add another tall into the mix, he become too slow and cumbersome. Marlions quicker than Caddy but he doesn't buzz around like a small forward, he's a medium forward, quicker than Caddy but not as good overhead.

We’re told Rich and Gunston went to Fagan and asked to be dropped as they didn’t feel they were performing to their standard and comeback later in the season
Why can’t some our old stars (Cotch &Jack) that aren’t playing to a level that’s expected do the same?

Bauer has to come in.

Wouldn’t read too much into last night’s loss. Illness has gone through the Tiger camp, Dusty not the only one, a little bird tells me.
