Changes v Lions qualifying final

I still can't see us playing Nankervis and Soldo in the same side.

I have always thought the same but after Soldo's efforts last week and Nank today I'm warming to it. Soldo's work at ground level and linking up really surprised. And Nank moved very well especially in the last. Martin & McInn aren't going to outrun our pair.

I was the same until a couple of weeks ago, but now I think it can work to our advantage. Nank as second ruck has it all over anyone he's coming up against, and Soldo is holding his own against the #1s.

I know it's apples and oranges, but Nank had more touches today than Chol/Balta have combined for in the past month at AFL level.

Lions have a couple of beasts who ruck too, no Grigg types as a second ruck, which gives playing Nankoldo more strength

our recent AFL setup with Choldo or Solta has been for Mabs / Noah to play low gametime at 60% and Ivan at 70% (I'm guessing)
So it's only 30% with both on the ground.
IF this is timed so that Jack or Tom are off the ground its then only approx 10% that we would have a forward line of Jack, Tom and Nank.

So earlier in the year i,D agree with Richo not to play both but we now are playing rotations that suit it.
Let's go NANKIVAN!

I'm a Soldo-Nank convert.
Reckon Richmond can make the combination work to its advantage.
Both will give their all for the contest and for their team mates.

I think it's a knee jerk reaction to one quarter of VFL footy, which is miles off AFL standard even in finals.

If we play Soldo and Nankervis it means we play Soldo first ruck because he can't play forward and Nank plays forward/second ruck.

If we do that I fear a couple of things will happen, Brisbane will plus 1 Lynch and Riewoldt to oblivion and they will rebound like Charles Barkley.
It’s very limited game time when both Lynch and Riewoldt aren’t on the ground together. Secondly the set up will be no different when Chol or Balta we’re playing. Thirdly Nank isn’t someone you would want to take lightly playing forward.

this is a fair call. agree with it all, except to note that we already play Chol or Balta forward/second ruck.

It will be interesting which way the mc go.

Nank has been brilliant, but he does have trouble competing with the really big rucks. As a second ruck he is surely a big advantage. Soldo needs work but can handle first ruck. I can't see the problem. Soldo can do a bit around the ground, needs to develop that but getting better. Nank can definitely contribute around the ground.

I think there would need to be some compensation in that we would need more taps to advantage leading to clearances to make up for playing both but losing the ruck consistently is not great, and losing clearances is a disadvantage we don't need in finals.

Don’t forget .... only WCE have really got on the scoreboard against us in the last 9 weeks.

The opposition hasn’t been getting much good ball inside 50.

We are surely 20 point better than Geelong and they just lost at the Gabba by 1 point.

The Round Mound of Rebond no less. One of the greats but also famous for his dust up with Shane Heal at 96 Olympics.

Nank allows us to drop 2 promising but ultimately doofus rucks in exchange for 2 footballers. The Soldo / Balta / Chol combination was a forced trial in Nank’s absence, now that he’s back we don’t need two.

At the end of the day, it’s just the ruck.

Imagine swapping Soldo for a Sydney Stack? Huge upgrade in impact, right?

Nank plays #1 ruck on his own for mine, if possible.

It's going to happen (subject to how Nanks pulls up) so may as well embrace it. I personally can't see how Nanks in can be worse than the output that has been provided by Balta/Chol over the last few weeks. It will make us stronger. Chol isn't ready for AFL finals and Balta ain't a ruckman.

I was in the same boat 6 or 8 weeks ago but that was being unsure whether Soldo could step it up but he has much better than I thought possible. I've never had concerns with Nanks ability. He's a premiership ruckman, you don't overlook players of his calibre and experience in finals.

Would prefer this option under normal circumstances but probably need some cover after his prep.

Unfortunately we have two #1's demanding to be picked and two versatile pinch-hitters who aren't. Even so I think we need to go with one of each, with the only certainty being Nank plays if he pulls up OK from yesterday. Which would be really hard on Soldo.

Nank was a man possessed in the last quarter, Essendon opponent not so much... different story against the lions.
