Changes v Lions qualifying final

In: Nank, McIntosh
Out: Balta, Short

This for sure.

If Nank is not up to it then Chol. Balta (unfair for a 19yo big man) did not give us anything v the Lions. Cotch was rusty and happy he played (and hopefully pulled up OK) will be better for the run as he clearly played managed minutes yesterday.

Pickett a dark horse for Shorts spot.

Catagna - frustrating BUT he has shots on goal and can easily finish with 4.1 on a good day. Nothing in the VFL that jumps as you as a fast small to take his spot.

VFL
Saturday August 31

Qualifying Final 1: Richmond vs Essendon, Swinburne Centre, 2.10pm

7 day break to the qualifying Final. Surely Nank plays if fit to see if he can press for senior selection Saturday week?

Big game for
Ross
Pickett
Chol
K Mac

the rest are outsider for mine ... Butler, Naish,

If Balta plays VFL on Saturday then thats a strong indication he may not play in Brisbane. ??

Maybe even add Towner and CCJ to that list?

except Cotchy has heaps less shots and misses heaps more goals than George.

will George need to win the Coleman before folks get what he brings?

If you (hypothetical reasonable third person) had a choice between Georgey or Cotchin for any position on the ground you would always go Cotchin without hesitation.

Nank would add grunt and toughness and a much needed marking contest around the ground - if he gets through the VFL next week then I reckon he comes in for Balta - who does Nank ruck against in the VFL?

Otherwise no change.

Pity Stack is out as he can add that hardness we need. In saying that, I think we will see a much different tigers play next - they are a hardened finals team and I reckon they have another gear of two of aggression that we didn’t see yesterday whereas I thought the Lions may have thrown there better punch.
Is Nankervis eligible to play in the Seconds Final?

Not sure about that. Career-wise, Castagna has 78 goals 65 behinds for 120% goal/behind ratio. Cotch has 125 goals 108 behinds for 115%. Hardly any difference. On average Cotchy's shots at goal would be further out as he's pushing down as a midfielder. Castagna's goal/behind ratio is very poor for a small forward. That aside Castagna absolutely deserves his spot in the side on current form.

I like having Balta in the team for some reason and hope he stays - but if Nank plays this week, and well, he will be included.
I'm fine with putting in K Mac for Short as well - the extra hardness he would bring works for finals.

Short out, Brando to the backline and Kmac to the wing?

Agree on may re Shorts spot in the 22, I dont think they will tinker with the back 6-8 spots. Shame about stack, he would have added extra quality and drive back down there. re Short - tidy up decision making and bring back his kicking expectations. For whatever (and noticed from preseason games to now) he is not kicking the ball as "sweetly" as he has over recent years and he thinks he can hit up targets 65+m away. Just isn't happening. Has to adjust to his limitations and learn of the likes of Houli, Grimes and Vloss when to attack and when to play it safe.

I know it's not going to happen (Ellis didn't have a bad game)............but I'd like to see Ross come in to the middle and put Cotch on Ells' wing.

....or KMac for Ellis.

Age reporting Lachie Neale being investigated over a punch to Graham in 2nd qtr. Anyone see it?

Bet Christian won’t be able to find it.

I reckon RFC wouldn’t be happy that Fagan is taking his Grimes grievance to the umpires to try and get an even better deal from the umps next time around - could they RFC have tipped off the match review committee as pay back?

Apparently if your not in an ambulance = no suspension. To hell with off the ball hits if your not injured anymore!

I wonder when they will look at the Grimes stuff too?
Fagan is obviously making his move on Salty Scott for the Biggest Whinger of 2019.

Bunch of whinges.

Lost count how many times Lynch was blocked, impeded or held.

Bet the umpires will crucify us even more now with Cameron & Fagan complaining.

Cameron has nightmares still from the job Grimes did to him in the 17 GF.

Wouldn't be happy but smart play. You watch Cameron get a couple of soft frees next game. You reckon they'd be taking it to the AFL if they weren't playing Tigers again?

makes you wonder why we don't do it. I was shocked when Dimma had a crack after the Free's against Jack last week. I don't recall him publically criticising umpiring decisions before.

I would like to see a Soldo-Nankervis combo. Its a bit concerning how little footy Nank will have played coming in to finals but still think Nank's output will be greater than what Chol or Balta can at this stage.

Short has had a bad month of footy IMO and although more attacking than our other defenders, most are more reliable with their disposal. I'll take Vlas, Grimes, Baker or Bachar distributing out of defense over Shorty any day of the week. DTLD even!

K mac has been playing defence in the 2's and brings a bit more size and toughness to our backline. His disposal can be iffy at times but can't be worse than short at this stage.

Are you serious about McIntosh coming back or what?
When he gets the ball he holds it until everyone defenders included are in position before he releases. While he is tough and also fast across the ground he is very slow figuring out what to do next, and I wouldnt be surprised if he has played his last game for us.
Unfortunately Nank has a re-occurrence of his groin injury and unless the MC are willing to put to put him at further risk I doubt if we will see him again this year.
No change with Chol, Ross and possibly Balta to play in the Vfl on Sat.

Barring any injuries, imho there’s only 4 players who may come in in the finals series Nankervis, Ross, Stack and Kmac
