Changes V Hawks

We do have players on the list who could replace him. Ryan could replace him. Bradtke could replace him.

Could they do it as well as Jack now? IMO Jack is trying but is hardly setting the world alight & his best footy is clearly behind him.

I'm not sure I'd do it but would think this weekend after an interstate trip would be the one to rest Jack if we're going to.

I really doubt anyone would disagree. But we dont have anyone.
Ryan has shown flashes. Miller sometimes tries hard, but neither contribute as much as Jack, Bradtke and Biggie would be hail mary's who arent showing anything in the VFL to suggest they would be a better option.
We could go small, but we are struggling to find one decent small/medium forward at the moment, let alone trying to find enough to kick a match winning score.

If we get to the stage where we cant make finals maybe Bradtke comes in, or someone else, but until then Jack will be our best option.
Its a tough one 17.

I have previously suggested that the best choice then available, (as we try and get ourselves into this final series) would have been Noah Balta, who is doing a great job where he is.

Robbing (a wealthier) Peter to pay Paul. And literally no-one agreed, publicly at least, and in any event if it was ever a chance, time has passed and it doesn't look likely now.

Bauer and of course and Lynch, aren't available. Gibcus I like as a forward, but he is obviously also a no at the moment.

Of those who are available and thinking particularly of the Melbourne game in two weeks time, I reckon the primary objective is to compete, which is a big issue right now.

Contrary to some I think Miller did ok in a defensive role against West Coast. And I think he is probably being schooled to play the same game against the D's, with a small and quick half forward line ready to pounce on the crumbs. (Baker, Bolton, Cumberland, Martin, Mansell and Prestia).

To this end I wouldn't mind seeing Samson Ryan, tried in the main role, ie absent Jack. He has both a defensive and an offensive capability and he would be as good a match as we have for May. And he would learn from the experience, which is more important to his future than sitting out and watching.

Two other options for May, neither ideal but both offer the advantage that they have the capacity to keep up..
Cumberland or Young.
The latter particularly, has been a revelation in defence this year and I expect that he would do well in a similarly defensive role, but as a forward. And with Samson, much fresher and quicker, and now unfortunately imo, all better options than the incumbent.

The point is, we all know Jack isn't what he used to be. No-one came in blindly expecting that this season. His trajectory over a number of years now has been downwards and thats not unexpected, but the point is WE HAVE NO-ONE TO REPLACE HIM.

You can throw players in before they are ready if you want, but don't expect to be even marginally competitive. Unfortunately for Jack, this season I'm sure hasn't panned out the way he would have wanted. I highly doubt he would have gone on if he thought finals were out of the question, he would be made to be the No. 1 key forward and be dominated every game, but thats the cards that we and him have been drawn this year.

You through Ryan / Miller / Bradke, whoever into that key role and their confidence will be pounded to death and I know you will call the Balta call again, but even when he has played forward, he hasn't played as the number 1 either, and I'm not sure he'd deal with the attention that well. If he was a forward he'd be a number 2, or a 3 and get up and down the ground.
You just can't stand it can you.

As you say we have players that could replace him as they are tall, but none of the talls, Ryan / Bradtke etc would even do as well as Jack is. In fact I think it could be counter intuitive. At least at the moment, because of his name, Jack takes up the best and 1 other defender, call it 1 and a half defenders, just because of his name. They wouldn't provide Ryan or Bradtke with that allowance, so would reduce the room that we have in the forward line, which at the moment due to delivery isn't that much already.

I just don't see an option that gives us what Jack would right now.

Obviously if Gibcus was fit, he'd be the obvious one with our defence playing so well together, but we don't have that luxury either.

There just aren't a lot of options available to us.

I’m sure the MC & coaches have thought about the Balta forward.

But he is nearly at AA form down back for us.

We can all see Jack needs help or a rest.

Bauer would have been the one earmarked but injury struck.

Lynch is done for the year and I would put a line through Gibsus for this year too. Too valuable to risk now.

Can’t allow Sicily to do as he wishes.

I would bring in Ryan .

Hawks have a tall forward line and quick midfield.

So you can have an opinion but you don't want me to say mine. Right..........................
No one on this site gets so carried away with your own opinion as you. I know 14 year olds, who do better. Just relax. You don't need to be right every time. These are personal opinions shared, not math.

Agree. I'd like to see Ryan in the role too. Young is an interesting one though. I can see him belting the ball away with some vigour, which might bring a whole new dimension to our chaos game.

So stiff to have both Gibcus and Lynch out for so much of the season. Even Tarrant would have been handy early in the season.
However we did get very lucky with Young who was played through necessity more so than form and has proven a great find. Possibly a 8 year player from here.
Swings and roundabouts sometimes.

Sorry but thats complete rubbish. Get carried away with my opinion!! I've heard it all now. You have no idea who I am, I'm the least egotistical person you will meet.

Just because you don't like my opinion doesn't mean that I get carried away with it.

What I don't like is when people get disrespectful to our champions like you ahve this year. You've said on more than 1 occasion that Jack should "finally" do the right thing, as if he's playing on for himself. Do you really think the way he is playing right now is helping his legacy??? I don't, but I think he is doing this for the team, if he knew we would be in this position at round 17 and with no Lynch, I highly doubt he would have played on again, but he hasn't pushed to retire mid season or anything like that and for me he deserves respect for that, not back handed attacks.

From RFC
James Trezise 21yo 188cm 76Kg
A smooth moving dangerous forward from Tooradin-Dalmore with zippy lateral movement and athleticism. He has never been in the elite pathway before which is exciting considering the raw talent he possesses.
End the farce and play him forward

100% agree this should be tried. We are crying out for pace and pressure in front half

Not really egoist but whatever you like.
And not disrespectful of Jack, just saying that the best thing for the Club would be to give up his space for another. Just my opinion and no reason for you to lose sleep.

He is getting good reviews from Morris and as the forward cupboard is fairly bare right now, why not give him a go and drop Picket back to wing where he plays his best footy

I have metaphorically had my head kicked in a time or three on this forum with my opinions (even you and Mr P have given me a kicking a time or two) but I accept I may have a different opinion so just go with the flow and let people have different opinions without me getting too het up in print. By all means argue your case though. Life is too short to have a bad feelings on what is usually a happy if opinionated forum

Whats the knock on Biggie? He's tall, athletic and takes a nice grab and everytime I tune into the VFL he looks good.

Isn't he worth a try up forward?

Agree UK …but can’t imagine I gave you a serve. As you say life is too short.
