Changes for Round 3.

Given he kicked 50 goals and averaged nearly 5 marks a game last year, I think you're being a tad harsh.
Averaged 1.1 contested marks a game over the last 2 years. He hasn't had a broken thumb for 2 years. Noah had 3 contested marks versus GWS

I'm not saying he's the same player as he was in his pomp, I just don't think he's a liability. If we're comparing him to Cotchin for example, he still offers more imo.

Jack is no longer an automatic selection.

It’s reared its head suddenly, sure, but that’s the reality as of round 3 2022.

Lynch and Balta looked great in tandem and our entire system is founded on gut running.

Plus, two rucks must play. And go forward.

Look at Dimma’s wince in the presser when asked the question around being too top heavy if Jack comes back in.

If Jack could chase and apply pressure, sure. He’s a champion.

But make no mistake, the selection committee is now in an awkward position.

Yeah just a tad. Third in the Coleman behind Hawkins 54 and McKay 58. Not bad for an old bastard who can't run, mark or kick.

I would rearrange. It's a no-brainer.
I agree that Jack has speed issues but he has never been greased lightning.
I would throw the challenge to Tommy to play true chf and let Jack use his strength and smarts close to the sticks. This prevents the defenders on Jack running through the centre.
Noah roams the forward line causing all sorts of havoc ((Wayne Carey style) with Daniel, Bakes and maybe Stacky at their feet.
Tommy will be the beneficiary. He always looks better further out from goal and gets frustration when he is double teamed in the square.

At this stage of his career Tommy should be our best forward. Jack needs to play to his strengths now and Noah needs to be set off the leash like last week.

So there is a specialist structure on the forward line and resting onballers know exactly what is expected of them.

This may be sacrilegious to many on here, but another complication is Nankervis being captain. Soldo has always been a better centre square ruckman and is probably better forward now, but no way Nankervis can be dropped to experiment with a Balta/Soldo combination.

We can probably manage all the talls, but I’m not sure it’s ideal. Requires us to be fastidious in the timing of rotations and probably requires Balta and Riewoldt to push up the ground.

Pretty good problems to have though.

Jack isn't the player he once was but he is one of the smartest players on the list. I would say he is an automatic selection in the 22, for now when fit. The extra tall puts more pressure on the defence too.

If his form isn't good enough over more than a couple to a few games or he simply isn't up to it, then by all means he gets dropped.

Yes. Jack is a brilliant tactician.

It is a selection dilemma, a good position for our MC to face though.
The second quarter was our best for the year so far, a match-winning quarter.
Who can be omitted?
Aarts and Ross.
Ross was poor again, 3 turnovers from 7 kicks.
He can stay if Dow is unfit.

Riewoldt is a champion… but rushed back for the saints on a fast track? Not sure about that.
Jack has an interesting record against the Aints. He often does well, although I think he’s also been knocked out twice against them.

Riewoldt broke his thumb, no hurry to get him back, get him right and then he can come back in the team.

Good for him...but we didnt make the finals and he is a year older. he could kick 50 this year and we wont make the finals.....

The media report said Grimes and Riewoldt will both play.
Grimes should replace Miller.
Ross has made several errors in both matches and deserves a spell in the VFL.
He doesn't have the second reflex efforts unlike Hugo, Dow or Matt P.
In: Grimes, Riewoldt.
Out: Miller, Ross.

We started the season needing two rucks, knowing that the 666 rule had put greater importance on winning hit outs than before.
That problem looks to have been met, with further improvement in Soldo in particular also likely, as game time ups his fitness levels.
We also started with three tall forwards, introduced maybe because of poor results forward in 21.
That selection was also forced because of Balta’s success as a forward in the pre season and because Jack was given another year. My suggestion that we look to trade Jack was not well received here, and fair enough but we need our two rucks and we also need both Balta and Lynch in the forward line.
Nasty business selection but speed is key.

We will never beat Melbourne with all 5 in the side.

Stats say Ross had 1 clanger, which was a free against, and 6 of his 7 kicks were effective and 10 of his 12 disposals.
