Changes for Round 3.

If fit, Riewoldt and Grimes come back for Miller and probably Soldo. I worry we'll be too tall otherwise, but Soldo played well. If Dow is out, bring in Sonsie.
Riewoldt should just do the right thing and retire. He is only going to get in Noah's way from here and offers no defensive pressure either.

I’m far from Castagna’s biggest fan, but he has done enough in the first 2 weeks to hold his spot.

Plus we need his speed at the dump on Sunday.

If anyone goes out, they need to be replaced by someone who can cover the ground.

who is going to play on the giant St Kilda stick insect guy?
I've heard that stick insects can make pretty good Fish bait. Just need to dangle him out a bit earlier than the last qtr n see if the Fish is biting.

Yep. Been saying for the past 5-6 years.
Great third tall, but end of the day he just gets in the way.

Tend to agree with this. As great a player as he has been I think it's a case of one year too many for Jack. We all saw how much better the forward line functioned without him.

He now effectively plays 100% as a decoy. Is now a zero threat in the air, doesn't even look like taking a contested mark anymore, can't find open space, and moves even slower a year older.

He is a legend of the club and a 3x Premiership player so I don't like to speak ill of him, however, he is well past his best and a back-up option now.

He looked ok in the pre-season games but he spent more time trying to knock the ball on and kick it off the ground during the Carlton game than actually grab the pill. It was sad to see.

That sounds exactly like a guy that broke a thumb early in the match lol.

Todays game is won at centre bounces ,throw ins & ball ups. Ya just gotta have two tall ruckmen in the side with one on the ground at all times. Round 1 we got slaughtered when Nanks & Solder had a day off. Round 2 they picked up the pump end result a resounding victory so Soldo stays in. If Dow out through injury no one of injured ready ,in Mansell ,Aarts out & Will Martyn in.

33rd in contested marks in the league last year as an elder statesman taking second banana role. By anymore do you mean round one? He looked like taking a few but his broken thumb was troubling him.

By the same logic, Dusty should do the right thing and retire as well.

I am now not a fan of playing Jack over a younger option. the reason? purely speed, the opposition run off Jack all day long. for any good Jack will do and he will do good things it is outweighed by his lack of pace for a 3rd tall.

But hey he is a legend and if they want to keep playing him they know best.

If jack wants to stay in the side as a foward, then he needs to start kick goals when he has set shots. This is the thing that has dropped away, I cant remember the last goal from 50 he has kicked. He seems to miss to many gettable set shots, however that being said, if Jack is our 3rd tall we are in a good shape in the forward line as we will not have any injures.

I think that's the problem. Jack is without question our 3rd best tall now by quite a fair margin. And obviously we can't play 3 talls in the forward 50, as the defensive forward pressure will drop to almost non-existent. I'd much rather Balta to continue to develop as a forward, now we have good backup options in the defensive 50.

Play Lynch and Balta forward 50, and let Gibcus and Miller continue to develop. Balta can be our emergency break glass option if our backs break down.

Don't drop Speed. Speed can win us another flag.
Ok. So, I've got the speed. And I'm not dropping it. (cc spook) Where am I sending it?

(I've just put another thousy on us for the flag. You should too, olds.)

You win games by kicking more goals than the opponent. So until Jacks impact on the scoreboard in terms of goals & assists diminishes then I say he has a role. I don’t think he’s our key go to forward anymore but the man has footy nous and I am sure he can adapt to whatever is expected of him going forward.

Yep.

Winning or breaking even in the midfield is the key to us playing 3 tall forwards. Jack makes a hell of a 3rd tall with a fast break out of the midfield.
