Cars

my avatar is a pic of a ford gt a remake of the old classic lemans 24 hr race winner and one of the best all time supercars ever made the ford GT40. i got the pic from

Test drove the new Hilux SR5 last night. Jesus Christ this thing flies. 175Kw 4 litre V6 (out of the Prado) , super-smooth 5sp auto, much more power than I’d ever need but mate its tempting. Bit steep at the moment, could get the demo for $35K. Fully loaded, air, steer, 4 speaker 6 stack CD, elec windows, silver metallic. I’ve been a ute man for a while now, but this thing is unbelievable. Power deliver way smoother than a Comm or Falc, much lighter body.

This was the fastest new, unmodified set of wheels Ive ever driven. Really threw you back in the seat. Geez I’m tempted. Can I convince the missus? Nah I don’t need it. Geez I’m torn.

ok I'll bite.

unless you need a truck what's the point?  and please don't pretend it's really a car.  Cos all cars that I own go faster, are more comfortable, go around corners real quick - such as my Renault Clio Sport which pretty much typifies the meaning of fun.

but of course I can't carry a sheep in it.

I hear ya Pop. But I now have an older model hilux ute, I love it, 2 wheel drive which is what I want. The one I have is 2.7 and it is not slow. I use the ute all the time. I'm on my second house reno, and I'm an avid collector of antiques. Fair dinkum Pop, this thing flew, and I've driven a few fast cars in my time.

The 5sp auto was amazingly smooth, none of that lag you get in comms and falcs.

My favourite car would have to be one with a bit of grunt, a bit of sound induced pressure and a good look, a bit like a Toyota Supra, and it could be pink. I would turn that car on any day. :hihi

This thread must have had a few cobwebs on it when TigerSnake brought it back

just like his cars LOL

If the Snake seriously thinks the Hi-Lux is a quick vehicle then he should get out more!! But maybe he appreciates its ultra cool looks and the way it attracts all the chicks!

Maybe you are correct Pop.X. I'll put it in context for ya. Yes, your Clio sport would do the Hilux like a dinner I'd reckon. I'm guessing, but pocket rockets generally have 120kw and weigh in at a tonne. Now this ute I drove last night, and thats all it is a ute, weighs a bit under 1.5 tonnes and has 176Kw. So on my rough figures the daggy 'ol hilux is 50% heavier and has 30% more power. But it is a only a ute, but a real ute you can cart stuff in. I guess what I should said is its quick, for a japanese ute. It was definately faster than a commodore, and I do think late model commodores are quick so I guess I am getting old. But quick for s std production car. Its all relative.

I swore off genuinely quick cars 10 years ago. Too much wasted dough and speeding tickets.

The thing that impressed me the most was the 5sp auto, no lag, you could hardly feel the changes. All I know is, I planted the foot, and away we went. And very torquey. The pickup was comparable to an RX8 I drove recently, which amazed me. But yes your Euro rocket would be quicker, But I can't pick up a load of mulch in a euro rocket.

Anyone know anything about the 3.0ltr turbo Liberty Wagon?
Any good?

there is no 3.0 turbo, there is a gt which is a 2.0 turbo. there is a 3.0 r auto 6 cylinder and a 3.o rb which is a manual which has 18" alloys and rides on bilstein suspension

they are all brilliant vehicles and i am just about to place an order for the 2.5i auto wagon with safety pack for the wife and daughter.

LT77 Thanks for this. So the 3.0ltr RB is the one with, from my memory, 176kw and has a 6 speed box?
