Great thread guys :clap

As mentioned my obsession is my 66 Convertible Mustang :hearton.Ive been lovingly restoring her for 4 years now and Im nearly satisfied bar a few minor things.
I'll be taking the donk out over winter for some TLC,doing the heads and polishing the ports and will put some extrctors on her as well.
My only problem is she overheats when idling fairly quickly.I have put in a 3 core radiator, bigger thermo fan, changed all belts and pulleys, checked the water pump and replaced the thermostat...all to no avail :help
Buggered if i can fix it??

Of the current ranges I like the Subarus too.My dad has a large dealership that specializes in them.Great product.
My other favorite cars include:
Ford GT 40 my absolute dream car.
An Mustang Shelby,or Cobra Shelby.
57 Chev pillorless
Corvette Stingray
Torana xu-1....Sounds like Snakeys had some fine iron in his time :clap

ST, I had exactly the same problem with my hatchback, ran too hot, the blokes at Chev offraod and Marine in Caulfield told me if I got a 3 core and twin thermos it would fix it, but it didn't.  Tried for 18 months or so tweaking it, but it always ran hotter than I'd like.  Only hassle I ever had with it.  I think it might just be a cost of having a warm motor.  I didn't know your mustang was convertable, sounds tremendous.  I'm gunna get my mortage down a bit then lash out again in a year or 2.

By the way, well done on getting the Melb Cup trifecta, good punting.

Re. Subarus, my mate has a fairly new Forester and it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, I've heard the Libertys have more go.

The Foresters had a 2.0 Litre engine up until 2003,then since they've had an adequately powered 2.5Ltr same as the outback.
The new liberty range has a 3.0ltr sedan for the irst time,as well as a GT Turbo. Both cars are seriously great cars and value for money. They will have good value retention for years after the Falcons and Commodores will be worth virtually nothing.

Struggs are there any cheap types chips or other tricks of the trade that'll boost power without spending an arm and a leg?

Yeah, I think my mates is a 2003, nothing personal, just my impressions were it was underpowered, but I am not the target market.  Has anybody driven/ own the new specced-up ford Focus?  That looks like a real pocket rocket, 130odd Kw, 6 speed, injected, indep suspension, I'd quite like to take one of them for a spin.

a 2.5 turbo Forester would be a good car. By the way, my Hilux would not pull the skin off a rice pudding either.

If its a GT Forester, then yes.
If its a Gx or Ltd then not that I know of.

Im not aware of any enhancements for the normally aspirated models Beevils.
I thought the 2.5 was peppy enough, not so eh??

ah it's ok.

I don't really have anything to compare it to to tell the truth.I'm not that fussed about power these days, just thought I'd ask.I really just bought it because it seemed the cheapest mid 4wd that ll keep it's value the best.

More than happy with it.

anyone been to the motor show yet?

that ford gt was wild and the new m5 was mild blowing to say the least, even if it was in that ugly brown

Being a family man now I sold my Lexus es300 sedan and purchased a Volvo Cross Country All wheel drive station wagon - beautiful luxury car with plenty of zip from the soft turbo and great fuel consumption from the 2.5 ltr donk.

Prior to the Lexus es300 I owned a Lexus sc400 sports limited edition (Toyota Sourer) - 4.0ltr v8 that went like a bat out of hell - luxury and quick - loved it then the wife went got preggers - two door car and a baby don't add up. Hence the Volvo station wagon now.

The car I would most like to own is the new Lexus sports 430 - it has grunt luxury and looks muscular.

The RX8 looks sexy but don't know if it has any go in it.

Never really been a fan of Australian made cars - as the workmanship when compared to the European or Jap counterparts is not up to standard

RT. Looks like I'm one step ahead of you in the family stakes - 3 kids and two dogs!!!!!!!
We were very close trading up to a XC70 from a V70. Instead we grabbed a Ford Territory with the extra third seat. For the price you can't beat them. You're correct about the build quality, not nearly as good as the volvo.
But the planning and thinking that's gone into the Ford is amazing.
We particularly like the fact that all the rubbish bins have inserts that can go in the dishwasher.
As for grunt, the Ford leaves the V70 for dead

But features like side airbags and decent handling (never thought I'd say that about a volvo) arent there in the Ford

Happy Motoring

Michael,

We had a long hard look at the Territory and I wanted it - but she-who-must-be-obeyed was not convinced - the presentation great the functionality brilliant - but the boss did not like the height (she hates 4 wheel drives & the Territory looks like that) and the fuel consumption worried her/us (the NRMA - your RACV - road report gave the Territory a minus for being a bit thirsty)

I reckon the Territory is a bloody good buy - but I am very happy with the finish of the XC 70 Volvo Cross Country and the feel the drive and lastly the fuel consumption. Am concerned about the servicing costs when compared to the Ford though.

Hope you have many safe and happy kilometres in your Territory as I will in the Volvo. Good Motoring.........

Went to the motor show yesterday Lebo. Took the digital camera and took 270 photos - I would have taken more but the battery went flat. Got fantastic shots of the Lambo's, Ferrari's, Bentley's etc. It's virtually impossible to take a bad photo of a Lambourghini.
My favourite was the Maybach. The car is a monster of prestige. The rear seats have enough room to fully recline! I believe it is Donald Trump's car of choice...
I liked the cross section cuts of the vehicles - very interesting.
I'm in the market for a mid-priced car so I was looking at Mazda 6's, Lancer's, Camry's etc to replace one of three VW Beetle's I own.
I will get rid of the other 2 when I find a Karman Ghia/56' Porche to do a resto job on.

P.S: Holden's new Magenta colour is the worst colour I have ever seen.

With respect to your venerable family's business, Struggs, when this thread veered from GTOs to Soob Forresters it was a terrifying case of oversteer. Lost it. Totalled. ;D

These Forresters. Can you get teeth decals for the grille? Might be the answer. With bad paint and bullet holes. Still I suppose it beats the *smile* out of the tram. :help

Struggs
Are you talking about the original GT 40 or the new one?

I just bought SWMBO a Honda Accord Euro Luxury - we also had on our list BMW325 and Subaru Liberty 3.0
IMO the Honda was the nicest drive of the 3 and the cheapest.
The Ricers are making better cars nowadays. Some-one in this thread queried the power of the RX8 - it has heaps - but only if you rev its head off.
