Cars

a fan of japanese cars are you?

they represent tremendous value are started to produce cars with style and substance now.

i have a lot to do with mitsubishis

if you want transport - then the Rice cars are the only sensible way to go. But if you want fun then Italian is numero uno. I paid $6k for a little 2 seater italian, drove it daily for 5 years, and am now restoring it for racing.

If it doesn't have a 4 high and 4 low transfer case, or a bull bar with winch then I don't want to know about it ;D

As for some earlier posts about brake feel and design....yep, interesting but kinda incorrect. Would need to know the model of car you are discussing to help you with any possible solutions to your braking issues. The premium comment is a safe cover all answer but may not address the actual issue with your system. :-X

Fiat Bertone X1/9?

Well, I sold my 2 owner (inc me) 60,000 original miles XP Falcon in 2003 and have ridden the pushie and trams since. But I've done my time. Made my contribution to the air and I feel I've earnt one more car. Later this year I'll probably buy a smallish seventies Ameddican coupe. GTO, T-Bird, Charger, 'Stang (too dear now) maybe a Matador (local delivery). A Studebakker would be nice but a bit heavy in the outlay.

Any scoop? (No I don't mean on the bonnet! ;D)

Ahh the Lancer Evo.A well named car if I ever saw one.

I like Mercs these days but don't own one currently

.Just bought a Suburu Forrester.I just need a Labrador for true family geekdom. :-[

I used to import 70s cars like that.Mainly the Pontiac Firebirds and CamaroZ28.The were the cheapest and most popular.

Struggletown has a nice Mustang Californian. 289w

Sounds like scoop to me, evo. I like the 70's Firebirds, GTOs. Smile all Australian delivery though. What's the go with the coupe hardtops being called Firebirds? I thought all Firebirds were convertibles. Is it an 80's thing?

Struggs mentioned his "Pony" in a post recently. Sounds veddy sweet. :)

I'm with you bairdy, couldn't see us ever buying another sedan

The Firbirds were primarily T-tops from memory.I don't claim to be any sort of expert on it though. They traded off the popularity of David Hasselhoff the Night Rider. ;D and Smokey and the Bandit.

I used to buy them from a pawn car yard in Las Vegas by the job lot and put them straight in containers.I couldn't bring them over quick enough.Cha ching. ;D

Gotta love that Hasselhoff. :clap

i can think of a couple of other cars like this. mercedes benz 300sl gullwing, any porsche 911, ferarri 280 GTO and the corvette stingray convertible

can you think of any others

LB77. Good to see your gone for looks rather just substance.
The gullwing was absolutely gorgeous
911. Bit of a soft spot for them. Lost the way with the SC and the 996
Ferrari. Go the Daytona, kind of like the dino's but the daytona - WOW
Stingray. Absolutley wonderful heritage in styling.

One car i've always wanted, but not just on looks alone - Pontiac GTO.

Plus agree with your Liberty comment. That 3ltr really boogies along and the all wheel drive is brilliant

Evo, are they any good (aside from the $$ you made)
Why did you stop flogging cars?

I stopped because everyone jumped on the bandwqagon Michael. It was around that time when the first photo buys magazine come out if you know that one.It was like the first Aussie wide car trading maG.There was a 6-12 month window of opportunity, then the market got flooded with them.

70 and early 80s american cars are excellent IMO.Very reliable and great big donks 8).

I love cars, I come from the Aussie muscle car generation, (I'm 35), I find it amazing how fast young blokes car culture shifted to high-tech tricked-up Jap 4s. I’m getting older but to me they just don’t have the character of the old Aussie big V8s. I like all cars though, Euro, Yank, Aussie.

Best Car I ever owned was an LX Torana hatchback, it was an SL, but it had most of the SLR options factory fitted. 308 4sp, Bathurst suspension, white interior and metallic aquamarine. Geez I wish I still had it, (sniff sniff), very fast and handled like it was on rails. Other cars I’d love to own:

66 Buick Electra, 68 Buick Riviera, 69 Corvette Ls7 454, 59 Cadillac Convertible, 57 Chevy Nomad Van, LJ GTR XU1, ST 3211’s ‘stang, 70 Valiant Wayfarer Ute, FC Ute, 52 Chev Ute, any Ferrari 308 GT, Any Merc convertible, I could go on all day.

My car habit is in remission while I try and pay off a house, I drive a hilux ute.

evo i remember the period well. seems to have shifted to Japan now. With so many grey soarers and skylines on the market now.

My passion is for older 911's

what is your little italian 2 seater

Its a 1982 Fiat X1/9 1500 5 speed - as another posted guessed.  Drove it to Bathurst in January - raced it at Mt Panorama in a hill climb which was an awesome experience.  I had it revving its little head off at 8000 in 2nd up the Dipper - we went in the reverse direction. Then drove the little bugger home.  I can't think of a cheaper more fun way to enjoy a car.

Great thread guys :clap

As mentioned my obsession is my 66 Convertible Mustang :hearton.Ive been lovingly restoring her for 4 years now and Im nearly satisfied bar a few minor things.
I'll be taking the donk out over winter for some TLC,doing the heads and polishing the ports and will put some extrctors on her as well.
My only problem is she overheats when idling fairly quickly.I have put in a 3 core radiator, bigger thermo fan, changed all belts and pulleys, checked the water pump and replaced the thermostat...all to no avail :help
Buggered if i can fix it??

Of the current ranges I like the Subarus too.My dad has a large dealership that specializes in them.Great product.
My other favorite cars include:
Ford GT 40 my absolute dream car.
An Mustang Shelby,or Cobra Shelby.
57 Chev pillorless
Corvette Stingray
Torana xu-1....Sounds like Snakeys had some fine iron in his time :clap

Struugles - Shannons have a 66 Ford Mustang Convertible in their Grand Prix Auction. You can view it at the Motor Show on the concourse outside the main hall - free entry to the concourse. Its a red one so obviously the fastest version Ford made. Shannons guess it will sell for $48 - $58K
PS - its RHD.

i was waiting for this thread to pick up. it was like a bomb waiting to go off.

evo, i too bought a forester in 2003 and had it for 12 months before realising i wasn't ready to make that sacrifice yet. i bought an 2002 Liberty RX 2.5 sedan. awesome all rounder, needs a little more power. i'll be looking at the newer shape 3.0 liberty as soon as they become available used. they look and go awesome.

Struggles, which dealer your old man own? i do a bit of business with a couple of suby dealers.

ST, I had exactly the same problem with my hatchback, ran too hot, the blokes at Chev offraod and Marine in Caulfield told me if I got a 3 core and twin thermos it would fix it, but it didn't. Tried for 18 months or so tweaking it, but it always ran hotter than I'd like. Only hassle I ever had with it. I think it might just be a cost of having a warm motor. I didn't know your mustang was convertable, sounds tremendous. I'm gunna get my mortage down a bit then lash out again in a year or 2.

By the way, well done on getting the Melb Cup trifecta, good punting.

Re. Subarus, my mate has a fairly new Forester and it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, I've heard the Libertys have more go.
