Captain Cotchin

This is where stats suck. Poor game? What poor game?

Cotchin's work around the packs was brilliant. Absolutely majestic to watch. We haven't had a player like him. His tackling, desperation, knock on's and teh things that don't register a stupid number on a piece of paper but are more important than anything a stat can provide. This kid is Gold.

Captains goal too. The "follow me boys" after he kicked it too.... He is our everything this kid.
Exactly what I thought Bobby......reckon it was his best leadership game for the RFC

Over 20 years of watching the tigers, Trent Cotchin would have to be the best player ive seen wear our jumper!
The kid is a natural born leader! the sooner he is captain the better.

Love your work Bobby, the most obvious leader to emerge from the Jungle in 15 years.

Is there anyone else in the league that crashes head first into packs harder than this guy? Hayes maybe?

Inspiring stuff.

Listened to a Chimp interview post game and he had nothing but praise for the tagging job Bartram did on him.
He worked his butt off but the Dees tagger wore him like a glove for most of the day and did a good job I thought.
He was very modest about his game and was just happy to be able to break free for once & contribute the goal in the last quarter.
Tough day at the office for the skipper, I am glad other mids stood up.

your last sentence is the important one. during the slump, when Martin/Cotchin were tagged out of the game, no one else stood up. Thought Tuck, Foley, and co all stood up today, which is a good sign of things to come (here's hoping)

Definitely wasn't one of Cotch's better games although as any good player does, he lifted when needed. Managed 9 turnovers from 23 possessions (11 contested) and 18 dispsoals which is a little concerning. Still love the Chimp.

Worked his bum off, which was great to see. Previously, I've seen Cotch get a little lost and frustrated when given a heavy tag. But yesterday he took the Judd work ethic out and just tried to work harder than his opponent. Great to see. He'll be fine when teams start to be accountable for other mids too. I think we need to work as a team and block a little for him as well - although keep Jackson away as he can't touch an opponent without giving away a stupid free. Also reckon that Dimma could help by changing things around a bit. Move him to some other parts of the ground and make Bartram play a different role. Anyway.

On the coverage, it was mentioned pre-game that we are 1-11 when Cotch gets less than 25 possessions. I thought the lift from Foley and Tuck made a big difference yesterday. Need a couple more bona fide mids to help cut the slack and we'll be very difficult to match up on. Enjoy a big pre-season Mr.Conca.

No problem with Cotch being made skipper now. But if Newmo has another year I reckon that's fine. It's quite obvious who the successor will be eventually.

Can anyone confirm that last year Bartram's missus left him for Cotch? Read it on Melbourne BF board. Funny if true :hihi

Also, thought he had a good game. Only player out there wearing a backpack for the whole 2 hours ::)

It's true, it's damn true.

His attack on the ball in packs is first rate. Multiple efforts. Desire. You see that better on TV.

A classic example of his non stats, was the flick on to Edwards that he got back for a goal. Deft touch. Doesn't count for anything but it set up a goal that he got. It was a super effort. Two weeks in a goal he has kicked skipper goals.

Must be the skipper in 2012.

He gets his own ball so often. Needs to get a better chop out as these taggers will kill him especially the grind of being on the bottom of packs all day. Yesterday was an example of where the opposition chose their tags and Foley wasn't one therefore he got away from them, that's what is having a good midfield is for.

They were only playing against Melbourne, whose leadership is on par with the very worst that Italy's politicians have thrown up over the last 50 years.

Nonetheless, we are beginning to see some real leadership emerging at Tigerland. Cotchin's late goal was a beauty and he kicked a similar one last week against Sydney at a critical moment. Riewoldt wanted the ball in his hands when the chips were down and the maligned Jackson had an inspirong dash along the boundary that led to Jack's critical goal.

For me, the definitive moment was Jack's kick to Dusty in a one-on-one. He won the ball, looked upfield, saw that there were only two players ahead of him, one of whom was Martin and knew instantly that Martin would win the one-on one.

We have some very good young leaders emerging. Cotchin is the Jewel-in-the-Crown but Martin is not far behind. He has been kicking match-sealing goals since day 1.

Agreed. What a luxury to have Martin being able to "rest" in the forward line and kick goals like he did yesterday?

Last week against the Swans was an example of what he brings. Had what most would consider an off day, yet had 5 shots at goal and dropped a mark well within scoring range as well. Like Chimp, he is never out of the game, no matter how poorly he may look to be playing....he is always dangerous, because he gets to dangerous spots.

The commentators said it, he keeps his feet in the one on ones (so many of our players can learn from that). Imagine how the defender would be feeling standing next to him in a one on one situation with the ball heading your way? :nailbiting

Cotchin and Martin are gems.

its why i beleive its imperative we keep foley and tuck in the side..they certainly stood up and took the game on once chimp was tagged heavily..

geeee apart from richo i cant think of a tiger player ive felt so damn excited about, and so much admiration and downright love for in the last 30plus years than the chimp...all signs are there that we are witnessing someone who just might go on to be a true legend of our club....(throw in dusty and jack and there is planty to be excited about right now)
