Captain Cotchin

This has been debated before on here and it runs at about 50-50 for and against. The club likes it so it will stay (for the record, I like it too. Shows respect to our history)

Shows respect to the great Jack Dyer but one man as great as he was, does not make a club.

I'd prefer the skipper's to keep their own numbers and make their own history.

Couldnt agree more. Cotchy should keep the number 9.

He will get his chance. I think giving Cotchin another year to just concentrate on his footy is the best thing, with a look to giving him the captaincy in 2013.

He can still be a leader though even without the C.

All the talk of comparing Cotchin to other players is difficult, almost impossible. No two players will ever be the same but we alway's tend to compare to get a better understanding.Jason Johnson,Daniel Kerr,Paul Kelly and Ablett jnr all have Cotchin like trait's about them imo as they all have that ability to change the course of a game through sheer brilliance.

If it wasn't clear before today it is now. Chimpa is not a mature player. If he had a tank there is no way a dud like Thompson would keep him to five touches in the second half of a winnable game.

Contested Chimp. Our rolls royce engine.

Got his hands on a lot of long kicks but couldn't quite hold his marks today. Again highlighted his importance - when he is not in the middle chances of a clearance reduce by panels.

Dominated the clearances. Again. Ended up with easily the most of anyone on the park. Again.

As JB said when he isnt in the middle we flounder.

We cant crucify our great young player by burning him in the heat all the time. Some others need to start stepping up.

It's true. Las quarter, we have everything going for us. And don't forget North have three of their starting centre sqaure footballers sitting in row M42 already planning Sunday night at Eve for the boys Silly Sunday/Mad Monday. We are winning every centre square contest as we should. Our second stringers go in for one contest. It's North third stringers. And we get blitzed out the middle.

This is the reason that Collingwood start a Luke Ball/Dane Swan/Dayne Beams/Sharrod Wellingham on the bench. So they can have a even spread of class footballers at the coal face. We are ok long term for A graders in the centre square but we have no second tier.

Cotchin dominated the first half yesterday but he was useless in the second half against North. When we acknowledge this (his second half failure) we can admire his improvement next year. He will be somebody special when has had a pre-season and gets some support.

Potential chimpion does not equal chimpion. Yet.

Hardwick made mention of this last week in press conference after the Adelaide game. He said that Cotchin needs more protection out there from his team mates as the opposition try and smash him at every opportunity.

I would not be surprised if we target another inside mid during trade week to help out.

I was interested at the amount of time Cotchin spent forward yesterday. Seemed a little more than usual.

Hardwick actually said the people in charge at the club need to get some protection for Cotchin - i.e. we dont have that player/s at the club. does not say much about Jackson and also may be why Tuck has been on the outer.

I agree that we need a couple of blokes who dont mind the physical stuff to protect the likes of a Chimp (Martin will be one in time), Jackson SHOULD BE that type, but just isnt wise enough to go about it discreetly enough and Tucky I dont see as that type of player to be honest.

Those are types we should be looking to trade for next season, this year we got the likes of a Houli and Grigg, decent link-types and runners, this year go look for a few big bodies who like to mix it up and have good tanks to boot, otherwise a bloke like Chimp is gonna spend more time in the recovery room than on the field.

I'd agree with that ...........the Jack Dyer name is firmly entrenched in legendary status at Tigerland, has his statue, the B&F is named in his honour, let the new generation wear whatever number they are happy with.

Agree. Jackson doesn't do the role he should be doing. Think Tucky is though. Diving into packs head first.

Was he carrying a boo boo maybe ? and that would explain his time spent in the Forward line ?

I didn't notice him showing any such thing during the game I admit, but don't have any other explanation as to why he wouldn't be in the guts.
