Captain Cotchin

Interesting to hear the ABC team prior to the Bombers/Power game.

Basically, Stan Alves was full of praise for Cotchin and the manner he's stepped up to the captaincy in the absence of Newman. He was of the opinion that, it might be prudent to let Cotchin take the reins full time with the steadying influence of Newman as a support and a back up if and when required.

Alves was very positive in his praise for him and his future potential.

Nuh seriously, this thought about pressure is all myth. If most of the boys are good mates and show respect by following your orders and not 'using' you, then you've got no worries. I can't see where pressure comes in.

For a myth there's been plenty of examples in the past of players who haven't performed as well as captains due to the added focus and pressure. Cotchin is 21, he has plenty of time, coud be our future captain for many years to come. We all have our opinions on who we want to be captain next year but who do we think will be captain? I say Newman.

This guy is a star. Thought today was one of his better games. 27 possessions despite a hard tag. *smile* me he wins a lot of contested ball.

Good post. He's starting to break the tags..

There are plenty of reasons to get excited about the Tiges right now but no greater reason than this bloke.
I don't think I've seen too many better in my time on this earth as a Tigers supporter.

Leysy hasn't seen anyone come close TBH.

He is good but I have seen weightman, knights, broderick, rioli, raines (snr), Free, bartlett, bourke & martin.

To get Cotchin and Rance has made the 2007 draft one of our best. If Rioli is better than Rance then fair enough. The jury is still out imo.....

Appearing on One Week at a time last night Dimma basically guaranteed that Newman would be Captain in 2012 .

I think he pretty much guaranteed 2013 as well.

Yep, saw that, it sounded pretty emphatic to me.

the Chimp wants Newie as skipper too so looks like he'll remain in waiting for at least another year.

He's just being polite. He's the best leader we've seen at tigerland in years with no disrespect to Newy. It doesn't matter whethers it next year or the year after, he will continue to lead and will only be the better for it when the batton is passed his way.

Agree. Cotchie's enthusiasm and passion is palpable. The team is on the cusp and needs a strong overt captain to lead it to the next level. Newie has been great through the transitional phase but the time to annoint the new fella is pre-season 2012.

Cotchin should be captain as soon as possible, because he already wears it so well. It doesn't put him off his game in fact he knows what it means to lift others by the example.
On another matter I do not like that the captain has to wear No. 17 and would be happy to see him stay in the No. 9

This has been debated before on here and it runs at about 50-50 for and against. The club likes it so it will stay (for the record, I like it too. Shows respect to our history)
