Captain Cotchin

Flawed stat ILO.

And most would regard Black as an elite kick

If at 21 Cotchin had (young) Voss, Lappin, Ashcroft, Whoever else around him, he'd have much better kicking efficiency and more clearances. Even half fit.

And Simon Black is IMO a champion of the game. Chimp is at least a premiership midfielder in the making.

If Black didn't play for Brisbane Redden and Rockcliff would be under much more pressure. He's old but he still draws the heat.

Chimpa does it solo. And he tires. Black is exactly the guy I'd compare him to. Or Kerr.

Black is a champion isnt he.

Fully deserves to sit alongside Hird, Buckley, Voss etc as the real greats of their generation.

Statistically Cotch is behind all those players in most important stats but the biggest issue for Cotch atm is his disposal efficiency. He has the 2nd worst disposal efficiency out of the top 50 disposal winners (per game). I don't think this goes unnoticed. It's a tough midfield to crack. His time will come.

He's ahead of all but Boyd for clearances. Out of the top 25 for both 1st use and clearamces only he and Ablett represent from the trio of teams who got flogged in the ruck this year. That in itself is an amazing feat and incredibly important as a measure of an inside mids contribution.

Disposal efficiency relies as much upon teammates presenting options as it does the player himself hitting the target. A good kick up the line to a static contest, no matter how neat it is, is not an effective disposal. As Leysy says, in isolation it's a flawed stat. Kicks to advantage, kicks to the opposition, critical errors and stats like score launches, assists and even goals combine to give a much better picture. As I said before Cotchin ranks alongside the game's best looking at it that way.

All Australian selection doesn't hinge on stats either. You only need to watch Cotchin to know he's a better player than the guys I listed.

No he doesn't. Boyd 63.4, Black 70.5, Fyfe 63.2, Judd 66.7, Thompson 68.5, Goodes didnt play much midfield this year. Cotchin has 59.2

Not disputing Cotchin hasn't had a great year, all I am doing is pointing out reasons why I think he may find it hard to crack a place in the AA team. Unlike you to get so touchy.

What makes anything about what I posted seem touchy to you? All I was doing was pointing out reasons why I think he should have easily made the AA squad.

Why are you baiting me? All I want to do is have a nice chat about the footy.

I reckon the Roos were lucky to get four. Reckon I'd have had Cotch ahead of Wells.
