Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

So many people been constantly putting Higlet in the dropped for the next game basket for so many weeks. Phhhhht. Kid's doing an amazing apprenticeship n absolutely holding his own in the reigning premiers.
Might not be as smooth, pretty n flowing a player as some, but damn he's got some footy nous n effort happening, lots of fun watching him learn.

Soon as he kicked it i said to the wife, if its someone from your team doing that its the goal of the year. If your an oppo fan its a blatant throw and the rest of the footy world would be 50/50 on it.

Easy to get distracted by his goal but racked up another 20, in a huge game on the biggest stage and did it when our guns where down for most of the day.

Umpires department have already come out and said it was definitely a goal.

So time for the saltiness to dissipate.

Unbelievable goal. Has to be GOTY

GOTF (Goal of the forever).

how did that Rising Star certainty Stepheson go today?

he is probably leaving his run too late but Higgins should be in the conversation.

Surely sneaks into the top 5. At this stage I would have it -

1. Doedee
2. Stephenson
3. Witherden
4. Higgins
5. Rayner

Honourable mentions to Cerra & Florent.

Move it 5 metres from the goal line and take the post out of the equation, and nothing would be said about throwing

Goal of the year decided by fans these days

Get on to the Gestapo website and vote

I don't get how it can be a throw. He through the ball up and kicked it.
If a player throws the ball up, and then kicks it like a goal keeper does with a goal kick in soccer, he has kicked the ball.

really? I'd have Stephenson then daylight. The rest have all been very good.

This kid is just scratching the surface. Building with everything game. Still mystifies me that some wanted him dropped a few weeks ago.

I think Bullus & I discussed this on here prior to the draft and both thought if he slipped to our #15 we would be wrapped with the result of having a kid like higgins at #15

Well our list managment went and traded that pick didnt they for #20 + #25 But we still ended up with Higgins at #17 Fantastic result there was 1 other player i would have liked at that pick and that was Richards (really think that kid will be a Gun player)

Getting back to Higgins, Whilst its always been mentioned that he is a small foward the kid is a natural midfielder capable of racking up 25-30 touches a game and i think its his height that make people think he is a small foward.

If Higgins was 10cm taller he would have easily gone top 10 and probably top 5

Rayner will go close, Stephenson has been good too but the one i would want in 5 years time is Cerra.

It wasn't that mystifying. A while back I thought he was just going and being a first year player, and that we had a few in the wings, just seemed like the thing to do. Wrong! Just shows the coaches, and in this particular case you, know more than I do. Its why I take the fans calls, including mine, with a grain of salt. The coaches and fitness staff know the capabilities and potential of players best.

Jeepers, that is a very strong group.

I would have Rayner over all the others though.

I think my critique was more with those on PRE (and there were a few) who thought he was being gifted games. No one is gifted games at Tigerland anymore. He’s shown he can be a dangerous small forward and an elite clearance midfielder in his first season. Imagine matching up on Pendles in your first year! Turbo has had that exposure and gotten better and better. Cemented in the best 22 atm.

I don't think anyone went that hard. Maybe, I missed it. Speaking for myself, he'd dropped off a bit, nothing bad, and it just seemed to make sense to roll Bolton and Stengle through (Baker wasn't in the equation really).. In hindsight it was a dumb call, and now as you say, entrenched. Had a huge month.
