Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Interesting when you compare “footy smarts”
Snags Higgins providing an example of how quickly his footy brain kicked in while Darcy Moore seemed to be mesmerised by what was happening and gave more effort complaining than he did attempting to spoil through for a point.

Just on the footy smarts of Higgins, apart from the brilliance in how he executed the kick, from the angle I saw he also was very careful to not touch the goal post which would have resulted in it being called a behind ( I believe).

And for all those that don't think it was a legal goal, it was more legitimate than Ablett snr's so- called mark of the century in the 90's where he never controlled the ball.
Umpires called it a goal. It's in the record books as a goal. And if it doesn't get goal of the year then the competition is either rigged or it's beaten by a more freakishly spectacular one that hasn't happened yet

ABC grandstand today were unanimous that it was a goal. Nathan Bourke almost read out the rule that stated it wasn’t a throw by definition. For it to be a throw the ball has to hit either a player or the ground.

Saw on the news tonight, there are heaps of kids doing Jack's goal! WOW! a 19 year old who is having influence on and off the field. We certainly have a beauty on our hands.

Even better were the Collingwood disbelievers arguing he threw it, it had to be overturned, that can't be a goal......and the inevitability that is was going to be called a goal.

Its one of those magic moments you go to the footy for.

:hihi :hihi

He has also made the term "snag" cool again.

He has also given a generation of kids the inspiration to *smile* school off and earn a living :hihi

Not too many times in a season you go "Whoah! That's goal of the year."

Makes me think of Shrek. “That'll do donkey, that'll do.”

Donkey (Eddy Murphy style) fits too - he has the look, the humour and the chat. I wonder if he likes Parfait?

Pretty sure the "touching the post thing" is a furphy. The only consideration is where the ball is. Not where the player is or whether they are touching the post.

HAS to be in the conversation for Rising star
He's much better than the overrated Collingwood muppet who only ever plays forward and hangs at the back of packs for cheap kicks and glory.

Stephenson is a very good young player....but he is not as quick as Grimesy !!!

Cannot believe the number of experts on "throwing the ball" rules that have emerged in the last two days.

It can't be incorrect disposal etc as it ended up on his boot. Players get slung in tackles & throw the ball one handed onto their boot & it's play on

Agree. It was not a throw. If he had have caught it or it hit the ground before his boot then an argument could be mounted.

As it happened I don't think it was a throw at all. What a sensational goal :clap
