Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Any incident like that, the free is awarded where it happens, or where the ball is, whichever is closer to the receiving team's goal.

yes. suggesting this kind of free should be treated differently than any other free is ridiculous. what next, a soft free to a FF should be taken in the centre?

I’m not sold on him.

And I don’t know why.

It annoys the living suitcase out of me.

Great joy in the lad, hope he never loses that.

Have to admit I am a little in this camp too SCOOPER .... not sure what it is but I’m not quite there on him just yet.

I guess time will tell. Is doing all that can be asked of him at the moment. But has there been a better time to play your first games with the tigers ever, well apart from the end of last year I mean?

Penalty to be paid where the offence was committed or the centre circle which ever is the greatest advantage to the offended player.

Agree Scoop.

He's kicked 7 goals in 3 games, better than I could have ever expected. Generally I'm getting carried away by this point thinking he's some kind of messiah kicking so many goals 3 games in, but I'm not convinced with him yet.

Yes I know what the rule is. If the tables were turned I'd be pretty unhappy about the severity of the penalty.

I think Higgins will be an excellent player. You can see he has the footy brain and he can read the ball very well. The boy has just started playing AFL. Doesn't have the tank or the body hardness yet. How many other first year players have kicked 7 goals from 17 kicks in their first 3 games of footy?

Agree.
Thought the Pies tried to bully him physically a few times.
Jack bounce back up each time.
Will become that annoying little *smile* that I love to hate when they play for other teams

Hitting a player like that after play has stopped is a dog act. If our boys did it I would be happy to watch a goal against us. I think it is the easiest blight on our game to get rid of. Once play has stopped dont make forceful contact with opponents.

I've seen it happen a lot after a goal is kicked. Calling it a dog act is a bit over the top. Silly yes, deserved a penalty yes, a certain goal after a goal has just been kicked? Seems a bit harsh to me. But I agree it is unnecessary. I'm not complaining, it was a handy extra goal at that particular time.

He's a midfielder playing forward at the moment, haven't seen his best by any stretch.

Yes. Once a goal is kicked the player shouldn't allow to be dropped. Pretty simple really.

Ive thought about this a bit more. At the time I thought it was too harsh. Think on reflection the penalty probably right. You are not expecting to be whacked five seconds after you’ve kicked a goal so are effectively completely unprotected. Haven’t played that much footy myself but when i did the t was when I got whacked and not expecting it that I got hurt the most bs when you are preparing for much more forceful contact. Definitely dog act / false bravado to try and get in Higgins head. May have worked though as he seemed pretty quiet after that.

And just another comment regarding pace, think we've seen enough evidence to suggest this won't be a problem, Higlet is a busy footballer, always on the move. He ran a 3.10sec/20m which is bang on the average for all AFL players. He also ran a 3 second flat sprint in unofficial testing, not express but up there with the likes of Caleb Daniel. For some sort of comparison I think we can expect output similar to Luke Dahlhaus in his prime.

Just a recap of his state form - 27 possessions, 13 contested, 5 clearances, 6 tackles, 1.5 goals & 1.75 goal assists.

Where do I think he can improve? Kicking can at times be sloppy & a little lateral but good coaching will iron this out.
