Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

A first year player in a premiership side is always going to struggle a bit and Higgins does. Every game he gets while Rioli is out is gold plated. For a hard worker like Jack it just etches the standard he needs to get to in his brain.

Only good things to come next year and ff.

You can see he's got plenty of Footy IQ and will be comfortable in the seniors. Just needs to learn what he's capable of at this level as opposed to his junior levels.

Need to realise he's a midfielder, won't be relied upon for too much set shot kicking once his role changes. On the run he can kick 50m, just doesn't get the elevation from the set shots.
Doesn't get the accuracy from set shots at the moment, don't think he's hit one near it yet n it's not been a distance issue. Kids playing some fun footy n learning the ropes, he's managed a few sausages from snaps n with a snifter of experience n composure he'll start nailing some set shots. Not an issue worth losing sleep over at the moment, Caddy was nearly as shaky with some of his set shots last year n he's played a hundred games. Reckon it'll settle for him once he nails his first couple.

I'll take your word for it bully, but haven't seen it. If it is the case he needs to run in off the long run up for a set shot.

Seen him kick set shots from 45 a few times in the TAC but barely making it. Seems to be his limit but might get a few more metres with strengthening over time.

I reckon Lloyd leap frug him in the peaking order today

and so he shoulda

I think Lloydy is our 23rd best player.

What he lacks in set shots he makes it up with footy smarts.

That handball to Townsend was the perfect example. Cool under pressure.

Agreed , Jack is a natural midfielder and that will be his role in 2 years time
He is not a small foward and his footy smarts and ball getting ability will be better used in the centre

Higlet has been gifted a few early games.
Comes with being a high draft pick.
But now it’s Stengle time, surely.

Stengle deserves another opportunity but Higgins has been leaps and bounds better than Stengle was when he played his 2 games last year. Not sure Stengle would provide much more at this stage.

We had a TAC Cup under 18 assistant coach come and address my son's team last night and he used Higlet as an example of a kid who transformed his game to match the requirements of AFL.

He wasn't sure that he will make it as a midfielder, so it will be interesting to see the progression over the next few years.

Disagree. He did nothing in his second game, but he was great in a big away game and crucial come-from-behind win against Port. Had some big moments. I like Higgins and you'd be a very harsh judge to not be happy with what he's shown so far, but he has mostly finished rather than create goals, Stengle was instrumental in creating goals at crucial times in that game.

Stengle and Bolton can't run out a Richmond AFL game. Higlet due to his best of breed AFL preparation can get close.

Higlet stays or gives up his place for Lloyd if Lloyd would otherwise go out due to AFL seniors coming back in after injury.
