Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

Cockatoo was pick 10, played 34 games over 6 years so not as many as Higgins but was injury prone and the cats accepted a future 3 Rd pick from the lions.

Maybe I am being a bit biased if I struggle with a future 2 Rd pick for Higgins - just saying.

and two that have leapfrogged in front of him since 2018 when he was getting regular games, are Baker and Aarts,

And Bolton as well for that matter , he has slid in the pecking order since his debut season for sure .
Been through a fair bit since mid-2019. Two and a half pre-seasons aren't enough for a midfielder to reach his ceiling in the AFL. Pay up, Saints!

Nothing less than swapping 2020 1st rounders this year with the saints and them giving us their 2021 2nd rounder.

ie we go up the order by 3 spots this year. They keep a 1st to use this year and their 2021 2nd may end up 35-40 next year which is too little reward by itself.

* sorry, I didn’t see Turks earlier post*

word around the traps is its done and clubs have agreed apparently.
Not 100% but looking like #21+Higgins for #17+2021 2nd rounder

not 100% though
So that's swapping our first round picks. Could be important around that mark if we have our eye on someone who looks like a late first rounder.

What does that mean Lee?
Only what has already been remarked upon already - that other young players took demotions on the chin and worked their way back into the team.

Short played 16 games straight before being dumped from the team in 2017, and he was older than Higgins is now. It just feels as though Higgins is expecting too much. But maybe there's more to it.

At the end of the day, it’s great to feel confident about whatever decision the club ends up making. Can’t complain either way.

Fence sitting and blind support is almost becoming the most rational stance for supporters these days.

I think we are pushing for more, otherwise the trade would have already been done. That it hasn't indicates that we are playing a bit of hardball whether it results in more remains to be seen, depends what other trades (picks or players) occur, but I doubt we would drag this out this long unless we were pushing for a bit more than what the Saints can provide with their current picks.

And I was a little annoyed about the Markov deal. But now seeing these 2 deals side-by-side...

our 3rd round from GCS for Oleg should be a better pick than Brisbane's 3rd round for Cockatoo.
And Markov wasnt a Top 10 pick - so not too bad in the end compared to Cats.

Its funny watching the Pies implosion.

How amazing would it be to see them push Treloar and Stephenson out the door to then re-sign De Goey who then gets sent to prison early in the New Year. Oh my god that would be epic.

people being a bit harsh on Jack. He didn't make the emergencies during the finals and suspect the club would have been totally honest with him regarding his weaknesses and chances for next year and beyond. Reckon the club would want the best for Jack and if that means more opportunities at the saints then we wouldn't want to stand in his way. Similar to butler, perhaps he doesn't quite fit in our style and system.
I dont hold it against him at all, though I would like to see him stay and back his own ability.
Another year spent playing VFL and there is a chance his career is over- I get why players like he and Markov chase opportunity.

But in this case as a club we should be looking to receive decent value for him. He is a good young player who we expect to have a long career in the AFL.

Did like Matt Rendell's wording on trade radio re Higgins: "Richmond are winning premierships for fun :cupgold so can afford to be pragmatic when dealing with their players"

I think epic would be an understatement!

That comment upset me.

It’s funny how some in the media thought the deal was done ( ala Lloyd ) but couldn’t back it up with what picks.
Trade is nearly finished for today and nothing.

Sean Higgins pick 30.

Can’t believe some are saying we can’t expect better than that for Jack.

Spot on, Waiting.
It's like you won the flag, so we are playing catch up and can screw you everywhere (except the footy field)!
You bullies, Richmond. Give 'us something.

I say Eff 'em!

And just on Higgo.
For someone who employs personal trainers in the off season for extra work to stay in shape he is just about the slowest player in the history of the AFL.
He is so slow.
Slower than paint.
I reckon Nank could beat him in a match race.
Heck ,I reckon even Nostradamus Gale could take him. :))

He is either slow' and therefore a future round 2 pick is overs, or he is not slow, in which case we should hold the line on a 1st?

No one is giving us a 1st round pick for a small player with questionable skills, no leg speed and with a serious recent medical issue.

People saying Higgins is slow but Lambert and Prestia aren't all that quick. They're natural footballers and I reckon Higgins is similar. I seem to remember him doing well in the time trials when he arrived.
