Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

When it comes to trading players everyone thinks we are soft, and it has become a problem.
We have a very useful player and he is valued by the coach who brought him back and then persevered, until injury forced him out.
No loss of face for Jack in that.

As in a previous post I think St Kilda’s future 1st should be the objective.

Don’t mind if we throw in our future 3rd or even the pick we got for Markov, but we should not bend further.
It’s all very well for Jack to call the coach and list manager personally to put his case. Sweet really but also strategic by the Saints and Jacks management, who should also be made aware that we are not going to give up quality without appropriate compensation.
Should this not get done and should he then not be renewed for what ever reason for 2022, time for his manager, to understand that if necessary, we will make a point of sending him to the draft.

We have a reputation for being fair and that’s a grand thing but part of that requires us to be firm. IIt is in everyone’s interest that we be that now.

The deal also has to be fair to the the RFC, members & supporters.

If Saad is worth more than pick 8 and Fantasia is also a first round pick then how is Jack Higgins virtually a second round future pick.? BS

how do Essendon consistently get massive overs for their players whilst consistently staying uncompetitive?

Reckon thats about right for a deal
Nah. That's just basically Higgins for a late second rounder. Could be anywhere in the 30s if the Saints continue on the current trajectory. The minor pick upgrade is negligible. Pick 17 will end up somewhere in the mid 20s after all the academy *smile* picks this year.

That's a *smile* deal and I really hope we get more than that. Otherwise we are just making one of our main competitors next year stronger without making them pay a commensurate price.

word around the traps is its done and clubs have agreed apparently.
Not 100% but looking like #21+Higgins for #17+2021 2nd rounder

not 100% though
Horrible deal. Effectively giving him up for a second round pick - lets say pick 30.

Getting unders for our players does seem to be our achilles heal. I'll obviously take the premierships but perhaps we should bring Dodo in as a consultant at trade time.

Personally i see it that he doesnt have the confidence in his ability to dislodge anybody from the starting 22 and probably feels the only games he will get is if there are injuries and he see's his main opposition in Ross , Rcd , Dow , Ralph-smith and thinks these guys are pretty good and its going to be hard to get in and stay in.

Unless we get a 1st rounder we keep as his value is not going to get any lower and he can provide depth
I don’t think the club believes he will dislodge anyone either, hence they are prepared to swap him for picks.
If he stays I think he’ll get his place eventually as our premiership players retire but he’s not interested in biding his time.
Shame actually because an apprenticeship at Richmond is better than going in immediately with st Kilda.
there are no guarantees saints don’t do a melbourne and drop away

saints insist they'll take their first rounder to the draft .......

so, surely tigers insist they'll take their contracted footballer to season 2021?

I hope this is the take it or leave it point of the negotiation?

and that saints leave it.

Jack best chance of a premiership medal is in yellow and black.

having said that, I found it strange he lost his spot. I thought he was our most consistent and hardest running small forward in the first half of the season.

I couldn't really see what he did wrong?

having said that, we've retained the absolute cream of the 'depth' in broad, marlion and CCJ,

we've gotta shed some.

Reckon if it was the other way around and RFC we're looking to trade for Higgo, we'd only want to pay a second round pick. As would most posters.

But its a buyers market and Higgo isn't a free agent, so really we should be able to extract high value from the trade. Not sure what is being proposed above is a good trade or not, but I guess i'll have some faith that the club knows what they're doing.

At the end of the day, i'm not that disappointed to see Higgo leave. I never warmed to him as a player and would be happy to take a pick and recruit another kid.

Disappointing. Maybe our first player since Matt White to turn his back on a contract.

Without knowing the details it's hard not to suspect the failure lies with Higgins, given his apparent different attitude to other young players and the club's overwhelming success. Hopefully he issues a statement that provides some answers to supporters, otherwise he will leave without the goodwill of an Ellis or a Butler.

Would be more palatable if it was #21 + Higgins for St.Kilda's 2021 1st + 2nd.

Minor pick upgrades in the 2020 draft will be meaningless given major disruptions to the draft pool. Worth nothing.

Saints are one of the more likely young clubs to continue their trajectory upwards or at least hold ground.

Letting Higgins go for Pick ~33 (that’ll blow out to ~40) next year would be a disappointing result.

Especially if there’s a 3rd wave next year that disrupts next year’s draft too.

It’s a realistic scenario that next year’s kids could miss both their U17’s and U18’s years. Pick 40 next year could be worth even less than Pick 40 in this year’s draft. I hope our club is talking about this possibility.

With shrinking list sizes, a shrinking cap, further possible disruptions, and multiple premiership stars nearing retirement, now is a risky time to be picky about the proven young talent we know we have.

Higgo is not in our best 22.
He is a clever footballer but not fast, not aerobically elite and not a good kick.
He is in danger of being superseeded by our next crop of young un's.
The Saints were the only club to show genuine interest.
Better to take something now vs nothing in 12m time?

It does not feel like a football decision does it?
It appears to me he doesn't fit in and he doesn't want to.

It didn't look like a football issue thats for sure.
